  1. The best way to get the most out of your points is to have at least 100K. I know it's a lot, but if you put everything possible on them and pay it off every month they can accumulate fairly quickly. A $1500 charge will cost you 100k. while a $1400 charge will cost you 140k points. If you have those points you need to pay the amount you have points for, not just the deposit. We end up cruising for free or almost free about every 2 years (7 day cruises).

If you want to go ahead and use your $7000 I think you can get about $70 credit.

Thanks for the info! That's a terrible points to dollar ratio tho...

We've got time. The cruise we haven't paid for yet is in July. We'll try to use the card for everything until we get closer. Plus the March cruise gets us double points and that is a 5 day.

  2. I just booked the Fantasy out of Charleston for my mom and I for her birthday. We sail March 1, 2015. We did an inside GTY and our PVP assigned us e108. I'm gonna call and upgrade today to the OV since it'll be only $100 more for the both of us. The upgrade will be a surprise for her.

My question is, how likely will it be for me to get further discounted upgrades before we sail. Would love to get her in a suite if it doesn't cost too much. But right now, it'd $600 extra for the both of us.

  3. Well, I found a good Carnival deal and shared it to a friend. But that was her reply: Carnival is so bad and it is just for first time cruisers. She booked a HAL cruise and said it is well worth it for extra $300, because Carnival (we are talking about Dream) does not have (free) sushi.

I know they changed sushi bar to taste bar. But does Carnival Dream still have sishi somewhere? And does HAL have free sushi on all its ships?

Is it free sushi if she paid an extra $300?

  4. Haha yea we know all about snow!:p being originally from upstate ny nothing really scares us lol I figured even if it was snowing the morning of, the farther we get south it should be better :)

I drive round trip from NC to NYC for the holidays every year. Virginia Highways are always the last to get cleared. One year, I had to stay at a hotel near the state line for a full 24 hours while I waited for them to clear the roads. NC was perfectly clear if I wanted to go back home. lol

  5. I was 3 days in on a antibiotic treatment for bronchitis for my cruise this past April. My doc cleared me and Carnival just needed to alert the doc onboard. No problems. Lying should not be an option when you are talking about the possible health of thousands of other people. The people who lie never put themselves in the opposite position. What if someone lied and caused them to get sick. Bet they'd be trying to sue somebody.

  6. Some may agree or disagree with my thought on this thread but, here goes anyway.

It would seem to the average consumer that the State of South Carolina and the City of Charleston would be in a Win/Win situation here. The Cruise Industry would make a boat load of money off of the neighboring states that find Charleston to be a Shorter drive for a Cruise Port. I live in Atlanta which is 5 hrs in drive time. Which would be more appealing to me than driving 10hrs to Miami. The Charleston Airport and Tourism could only benefit from the Improvements or expansions.

Not to insult the residents of Charleston in saying... Charleston could use something to better itself. Southern Charm is Great but, it's only so much to it. Cruising on the other hand will add much more revenue to the City's Growth.

Corporations and Politicians constantly bicker over $$$$$.

Simply Greedy!!!! The same itineraries are growing BORING.... Bring More Carnival and they will Come!

Exactly! What city doesn't want more income? I'm definitely confused by their stance...

  7. My mom just got the card. We put everything on it - gas, groceries, whatever and just pay the bill in full every month. We are booked on a cruise for July and so far have only paid the deposit and FTTF. We have over 7000 points. Hopefully if we keep this up, we'll have accumulated enough for a decent statement credit.

  8. Burst Mode is when your camera takes continuous photos. My Sony RX100 can shoot 10fps (frames per second)...perfect when you are riding in a car and want to sniper shots with little trouble.

Sadly sometimes you get 95% garbage and 5% good ones :D

But that 5% are really good! Thanks for the info! :)

  9. Over the Mountains and Through the Woods to the Carnival Breeze We Go

On the way back down the mountain I put my trusty little Sony RX100 on burst mode in hopes of catching some candid photos of island life, while plummeting down the road at a decent pace. I filled up half a 16GB card with useless photos, but...to my surprise I landed a few really good ones...here are the top 6
