I think you're right about that one haha .. Sometimes you get into a routine you can't break so I just wanted to make sure there isn't going to be any surprises!!!

  2. NCTribeFan or Paul Medik-

Silly question- Do they still have little boxes of cereal for breakfast? Call me crazy but the only thing I've eaten for breakfast for the past 10 years is a bowl of Rice Krispies with some banana slices!

    Thanks!

  3. Molly,

The deck four balcony is much larger in area than any other balcony because of the lack of sloping handrail. It slopes, but not much.

You will get sun, but it will be at later or earlier times than the higher decks and not for as long. I booked deck 8 for maximum sun exposure; I got atypical psoriasis after an allergic reaction a few years back and I need as much sun as I can get.

On the way South we didn't get sun until noon or so and then it gradually increased as the day went on. Once in the Bahamas area we got sun early as we headed West and late as we headed East. The return trip up North would have been full sun both days. Your experience on deck 4 would be similar, but later due to the overhang and then not as much direct sun due to the handrail.

Our sailing was in April and yours is May 25 so you'll actually have more intense sunlight so it may equal out.

I checked CCL and decks 6 and 7 aft wraps are both still available for your sailing, and both would offer more sunlight. Deck 5 is the cabin you would wish to avoid due to the cabin size, but the balcony is fine. Deck 5 aft wraps are both sold though which is odd. Perhaps they didn't research? Both deck 8 aft wraps are booked.

You can look thru the Flickr album of the picture I posted above and find a lot more pics of deck 4 balcony and compare it to pics from deck 8.

BTW, noise from above was never an issue on deck 8.

    Paul:

Thanks SO much for your input. I just called my PVP and switched to 7347 .. I've got eczema so need as much sun as I can get, too. I really appreciate the help, Paul :)

  4. Molly,

Yes our cabin was on the 8th floor right below Serenity. The picture from Serenity looking down is with me reaching out with my camera and aiming down; people standing there can't see as well as the camera can.

We have had the 4th floor aft wrap on Spirit Class (Legend), and I can assure you the roof angle prevents anyone from above looking down in to your balcony. Deck four has nearly a full overhang whereas deck eight has about 1/4 overhang. Reaching out with a camera from deck 5 wouldn't even give much of a view of deck four's hand rail and no view of the balcony.

    Here's our deck 4 aft wrap on Legend;

    Paul:

I am now getting a little worried. I booked the 4th floor suite because I read that the balcony is wider and the handrail doesn't slope back but rather is straight up and down. But, I was planning on spending a lot of time in the sun on my balcony instead of having to wake up early to get a good seat on the serenity deck. With that huge overhang, though, I'm not sure if I'll be able to get any sun after 12 pm!

Do you think that it would make more sense to try to switch to an aft suite on a higher floor? Was it noisy being directly below Serenity?

    Thanks!!!!

    Molly

Paul: now your cabin was on the 8th floor right below the Serenity deck, correct? I will be sailing in 25 days (:D:D:D) and we have a 4th floor aft wrap balcony. My concern is that the people from the 5th floor or even all the way up to the Serenity Deck can see onto our balcony. From this picture, it seems like this is not the case, but can you please confirm this for me?

    Thanks!

  6. Any suggestions on a restaurant near the holiday inn express stadiums in baltimore? Nothing high priced as we will be gorging ourselves on the ship the next day

    Sports Dr:

Not sure what kind of restaurant you are looking for or for what meals you will be dining out... But I've tried all these places out myself and feel comfortable recommending them to anyone. I hope you have as great an experience visiting one (or a few) of these places as I have had! Everyone has a different gauge of "high priced" so I tried to choose places that would be between $5-$15 a plate per person. It just depends on what your definition of high priced is.

The bluegrass tavern is a great southern food establishment with cool cocktails. I've never been disappointed here it's beautiful and the food is just super delicious.

Cafe Jovial is a cute little coffeshop/cafe/breakfast/deli shop which is pretty close to your hotel. The owner is always right behind the counter and you can see her pride from the local art she hangs on the walls to how much care she gives to every customer. They have great sandwiches if you are looking for some lunch or you could grab a coffee and get some snacks.

I will give you a heads up, though: your hotel is in a neighborhood called Pigtown and not all areas in Pigtown are the most safe in Baltimore. Just be careful of wandering around by yourselves at night.

Not sure if you like Ethiopian food, but Ebenezer's Ethiopian Restaurant is also close by and their food is out of this world! So much for so little money and always delicious!

A few other great places to try:

    SoBo Cafe

    Puerto 511

    Thai Arroy

Good luck! Let me know what you end up doing :)

  7. Thanks for the formation, Kicker! I just sent an email over to Carolyn so we will see what comes of the kayaks adventure... I'll make sure to post it on here for anyone else who is interested.

  8. I booked a half day biking tour of Nassau with this company yesterday. They seem to have excellent reviews & comments everywhere I've looked. It'll be myself and my DS (26).

We'll be in Nassau an entire day (8AM until midnight). That means we can do the bike tour in the AM, still hit a beach, or find another activity.

Having been to Nassau several times (and its not my favorite port, although I did enjoy a Booze Cruise once, and Senor Frogs once); I thought the biking tour and seeing a different aspect of Nassau would be good.

If, like me and many others on here, you're not thrilled with Nassau as a port, maybe you should consider the biking excursions, or something else off the usual beaten path.

Kicker: I was on their website last week and liked what I read. Did Carolyn give you more detail about the biking tour and whether there were more people that signed up for that day, etc? Also, did she by any chance give you info about the kayaking adventure?

    Thanks!

  9. I'm cruising out of Baltimore May 25th. We booked the vista suite so have VIP boarding... Last time I was on the Pride my parents had the vista suite so we got to check in with them but I forget the whole process, what time we were on the ship, etc. Can someone give me a quick run-down of when the best time for me to arrive would be and what to expect? ( FYI: I live about 30 mins north of Baltimore and will be dropped off at the port by either my sister or my mom)

    Thanks!!

  10. Has anyone utilized the fitness classes on the ship before? I

am specifically interested in the spin class and want to know

if it is worth the cost (still $12.50 I'm assuming) and when the

classes are available. Also, if there isn't a class in session, are

we allowed in the spin studio to train by ourselves? Thanks!:o

  11. Mollypop1622,

Propulsion is how fast the ship propels itself thru the water. Pride normally propels with two azipods (Azipods are self contained engines that hang under the rear of the ship and rotate left and right as needed to maintain heading and for maneuvering), but since sustaining a power failure for one of the two azipods, Pride has been unable to reach full speed. The issue with Freeport is that the distance between Freeport and Baltimore is such that Pride has to run at near full speed to arrive in port on time. Charleston is considerably closer to Baltimore and thus she can leave Charleston in plenty of time to arrive in Baltimore on time for the next sailing.

There is no time crunch between Nassau and Freeport or Grand Turk and Half Moon Cay nor any variation thereof, but given that it takes over two full sailing days to reach the area of Pride's ports of call, she has to leave that area earlier in order to arrive back on time. Normally Pride would just slowly sail between ports, but to make Charleston she heads North toward Baltimore immediately after her second port of call at her highest one engine speed.

There was some speculation as to what actually failed; was it a generator or transformer or heat dissipation unit? That has not been fully answered, but it's most likely a combination of the three.

What caused the failure? Stray debris in the ocean or normal wear and tear or was it natural over time failure that would have been fixed in the routine dry dock? I have no clue.

All I can say is that we sailed her last week and had a great time. She vibrated more than she normally would have, but she got us where we most wanted to go and took us thru a storm that would have stressed any vessel and she handled it perfectly.

    PaulMedik:

Thank you so much for the information, I was afraid this would be a lasting issue until it dry docks later this year, but am relieved to hear the issue has been fixed! :)
