  1. Wife had her birthday on the Encore early this year. We ticked the birthday box online in advance. She got balloons in suite, a dessert in room, candles with the dinner dessert we scheduled at the TK grill (we commented you almost never see real candles on a cruise ship), and the cruise director wished her an impromptu happy birthday when they crossed paths at the theater that evening - all without any other prompting. Wasn’t much more we thought to ask for but certainly think of any special requests and I am sure they would oblige. Happy birthday!

  2. Is there any way to tell which excursions are offered in which port, online, without having to book first? Is it somewhere on the website that I'm missing?

    Thanks!

Based on your questions you might be looking at the 16 night holiday cruise over Christmas and new year's. Assuming so, that's the one I have booked, and they currently only have shore excursions listed for 2 days (including the post cruise transfer package) - both in NZ. So currently you aren't missing much. But they added the two port offerings just in the last week or two, so maybe more will pop up shortly. Although there are a fair number of days at sea and on remote islands, so there might not be as much to offer.

  3. Did the TA specifically refuse to do this type of transaction? Even if they do "only" cruises this seems like part of the cruise package booking if you do Seabourn air. and it is likely comissionable, as it's all on one invoice. So not like you are asking for a true non-cruise service.

If they still say no, well, that's the downside of that sort of TA option.

It wasn't a hard no, but strongly attempted persuading like "My clients find the best fares on the web at .... and I really just book cruises" so yes, I can force the issue, just disappointed it's not easier to get a quote. I agree if it's commissionable it's certainly a reasonable request. Although I'm happy with the cruise rate I got...

I have booked a (refundable) flight through the Amex Companion Pass program for the first time for the cruise. It was about $1000 cheaper than the next closest price I could find (for a restricted ticket). So I found something I am happy with, but definitely would have liked to pressure test the Seabourn Air prices to see if it was a good deal. (For those who aren't familiar, you buy a full fare refundable business class ticket, and your companion flies free - just pays tax and airport fees. This has been the first time ever it's been cheaper than other business class options...)

  4. Can you all book flight ease online? It isn't showing as an option for me. I booked my cruise through a discount TA who *only* does cruises, and seabourn said via phone they won't discuss flight pricing over the phone with me since I have a TA - they will only through the TA. They said I could check the website but it doesn't always show up. Seems odd, but thought I would see what others' experiences were. TIA.

  5. We had R425 in 2014 and had no issues. The hallway was busy in general when the crew was cleaning but as we were off the ship on excursions most days it wasn't really ever an issue. I wouldn't worry about the linen closet (but I might if I was next to the public laundry, which always seemed to be busy!). Enjoy.
