  1. The website suggest the closest train station to the Grain Port is Wynnum North station. The train runs every half hour, from the city to wynnum north station is about 30 minutes. From Wynnum North to the port is about 10 km, so AUD $35 -40 for taxi ride.

Translink.com.au has all public transport timetable and fare info in Brisbane.

This is the Grain terminals info . https://files.acrobat.com/a/preview/dac77dc0-f54e-47a5-a207-3c56b694e946

  2. I agreed with celle and Dorset Cruiser, any prescription and otc medicines you legally obtained from your country for your personal use will have no problem.

Border control officers are more interested in catching drug smugglers than pax on multiple medications and vitamins who forgot a doctor's letter. You would certainly need to bring a letter with you if you have complex medical conditions in the event of needing treatment by another doctor in a foreign country. For those cortisone cream and anticongestant meds, as long as the amount you bring is consistent with the duration of your trip, and you are not bring extra 2 dozens to sell, it will be okay even it is something not available in Aus/NZ.

  3. We booked our Dec 2014 cruise(also 2A3C) in Feb 2014 online direct with Carnival, no agent. Since my youngest is 3yo, we chose the interconnecting rooms. For 10 months, we watched the prices hovering plus or minus $100pp. The sale prices haven't really dropped so much we feel we need to cancel and rebook. The big price drop did come after our final payment for guarantee room. (i.e. they assign a room to u in the last minute in the catagory you paid for.) It wasn't something I want. I have no regret booking early, because it is the days and rooms we want.

  4. My heart almost stop beating when I saw my 6th Dec Carnival cruise (I paid ~$1600pp) advertised for $849pp for a balcony cabin. That's almost half price!!

I did a mock online booking to find out what the catch was. The $849pp is for balcony gurantee cabin for 2 persons only. Cabin for 3 is still ~$1600pp. So for my family of five, we may save about $800 but loss our choice of adjacent cabins. The peace of mind to have my children next door certainly worth more than $800.

My heart is beating normally again once I know I would not accept a randomly assigned cabin to save $800.

I like to know what is the biggest price drop you have seen?

  5. The Australian government website states your passport is valid until its expiry date. It is not an Aus immigration requirement to have 6 months. It is the cruise liners and airlines that demand passports to have 6 months validity or risk refused boarding.

I have to renew two child passports because they have less than 6 months left.

I like to hear if someone has unknowinly use a passport with less than 6 months to travel. My family is not going to risk it.

  6. Hi I thought I will let you know some of the quotes and prices as of May 2014 I found out.

Towncars quoted $145 with minibus (booster seat for my 3 yo not included in the quote)

Hughes limousine service quoted $121 with Merc Viano (extra $22 for booster seat)

    Carnival shuttle service $20pp.

Maxi taxi estimated $60-70, based on a 50% surcharge added on standard taxi fare.

Thanks everyone who assure me the queue for maxi taxi won't be too long, and will be more reliable and economical than prepaid/ prebooked shutttle.

Happy there is one less thing to book.

  7. Thank Gaechann and Flipper 133, I have a quick look at Carnival website, there is no mention of shuttle, I will ring them to find out. Anyone else have experience with Carnival's shuttle.

Also send Towncars an email for a quote. Their price sounds very reasonable for a private pick up.

CassCruise, good to know you have queued for maxi taxi and it was not a long wait. It was my worry we may have to stand in queue for a long time. This may be the way to go if Carnival doesn't offer shuttle.

Thanks. It is still 6 months away, and I am very excited...

  8. Thanks cb at sea. 😊Good to know there will be food and something to do.

Jridou, yes, we are going through the stage where my 3yo will wake up at 4:30am in summer when the birds begin to sing. 6am is their regular wake up time. So I will be happy with 7am starts during holiday. 😀

  9. Hi, I will be flying into Sydney domestic airport in the morning about 8:30am on a Saturday in December for my 10 day cruise to the south pacific. What are my options and costs from the airport to the terminal? We are 2 adults and 3 kids (10,8,3yo) with lugguages. When I was by myself for work and conference, i just caught the train. However, it will be a bit difficult with kids and lugguages. Please give me some advice.

  10. Do you have children who are early birds? My children ( 3, 8, 10yo ) are early birds and wake up with the sun. This is going to be our first cruise. We will be on the Carnivals Legend.

I like to know what to do in the morning if my children are wide awake from 7am. Is buffet open early for breakfast?. I already know Camp Carnivals starts at 10am. When do swimming pools, water slides, mini golf open?

I think they will adjust to holiday time and sleep in half way through the cruise. I am more thinking the first couple of days when every thing is new and they are full of energy.

I posted in carnivals board too. Hope all mum and dad cruisers here can give me some tips, and share your experiences.

  11. I like to know what are the opening and closing times for various facilities on the ship. My children are early birds and wake up with the sun.

I know this may be different when we are on holidays with evening shows to stay up for.

We will be on Legend. When do swimming pool, waterworks, gym, minigolf, etc. open and close? I am sure bars and casino will stay open to the small hours in the morning. I am more interested to know what to do in the morning if my children are wide awake to 7am.

  12. I will be cruising from Sydney on Carnival Legend. Bonine is not available in Australia. I wonder if it will become available onboard when the ship is out at sea. Bonine seems to be the most recommeded and effective over the counter medicine.

Also a little off track, has anyone buy from Amazon or other online sites and have it post into Australia?

  13. I am looking thru the FAQs on the Carnival Australian website. It says room service is an optional extra and is not included in the fare. But reading from other posts in the forum, it sounds like room service is included in the US carnival cruises. Can someone who have been on Carnival Spirit or Legend from Sydney let me know? I will be cruising Legend from Sydney in December , thanks.

  14. I don't get motion sickness in car or on plane. I am okay with river ferry trip. I had got seasick once from small boat (4m) that take me to dive site on a rough sea. As my first cruise, I like to know how much motion there are on the cruise. We booked a midship balcony room. Should I take motion sickness tablet before the cruise or just wait and see?
