Halloween on the Breeze Take 2
Photos are not showing up on my original post and being that I can not edit I will just start over
So lets try this again , if it doesn't work this time I guess my review is just not meant to be
Hello Fellow Cruisers
It's 2017 so i figured I better get my review of the Breeze out before i sail again ( which will be in like 50 days)
Quickie about us , we are a forty-something couple from Northern California , proud parents to one son and even prouder grandparents to our grandson. I'm out numbered but thats ok, i love my boys .
We booked this cruise a little over a year out on a whim, I was chatting on the phone with my mother (who i believe has the carnival website up 24/7) and i mentioned that I wanted to book a cruise, the next thing I know we are booked over Halloween on the Breeze. I believe it was meant to be because they just happened to be having a reduce deposit sale which included OBC , and being that we where booking so early we had the pick of just about any cabin , so I booked a L Shaped Cabin and my parents booked a Aft Wrap around (which they will later change)
Our small group of 4 turned into 15 quickly , my son and his gf joined and then my cousin- in -law who has been wanted to cruise for the longest time finally was able to convince the hubby to go , she then added her dad, aunt and cousin. 7 Newbies and 8 past cruiser
As a super planner I started planning hours after we booked , hotel booked , van rented , parking purchased, excursions booked, the count down seemed to be going super slow at this point and just about stopped over the summer when our grandson became very ill which pushed any thought of a vacation right out the window, but thanks to prayers and the best children's hospital in the world he recovered and life became semi normal and the countdown could start again , at this point we all need a vacation to recharge our batteries .
The week leading up to our vacation seemed to be on speed mode before I knew it I was setting my alarm for 3 am , we live about an hour from the airport which means we have to leave by 4 am "just in case" traffic is bad (even at 4am, ya just never know)
Of course this time around , NO traffic , we arrived early and only drove past our parking place once - ya us !
Good Morning From Oakland Ca
We had time for breakfast !!!!
NO review is complete without a airplane window cloud photo and I do not want to disappoint
We arrived !!!!!! Hello Houston (hobby airport)
Our group was flying in from Oakland, Sacramento and Los Angeles, we had the only direct flight which meant we had to wait at the airport. We would be sharing a van with my parents and thankfully there flight was only 1 1/2 hours behind ours.
I have a coffee obsession , no scratch that, I have a rare and completely made up medical condition which requires consumption of a hot caffeinated beverage to walk among other humans, so once we landed all i could think about was getting my first cup, BUT the line was insane so I skipped the first one we saw and figured we would pass anther on our way to baggage claim .... and of course , NO COFFEE , once we past the point of no return the only restaurant was a BBQ joint , HELLO , I WANT COFFEE NOT a pulled pork sandwich , I wasn't going to let this get me down, I was on vacation and I made it this far with out coffee, I can do it !!!
I pulled myself together and we made it to baggage claims
As our bags arrived one came out sporting some new bling , TAPE , my lack of medication and ability to think like a sane person I had a slight panic attack because this bag housed all of our shoes , but thankfully nothing was missing ,the zipper was torn, zipper tag was crushed and everything inside was dirty like it all fell out and was scooped back in. After my mini attack we found ourselves a nice place to wait
Kids where hungry so we walked over to the BBQ joint , pretty good for airport BBQ , i had a bite of the sandwich I got for the hubby (sorry no photos) If you like BBQ i recommend stopping by , they have a nice seating area and very friendly staff .

I will figure out the photo problem ... i hope ... to be continued

In my husbands line of work he has always signed a non compete paper it's pretty common practice. Sadly I know all to well what it's like to be laid off right before Christmas as well as training your replacement, it sucks but that's corporate America.
I wish you luck in the coming year

I pay $2 for a bottle of water at home , $4.50 is fine with me , beats having to bother refilling a cup . Bought a case on our last cruise and it was plenty

We just brought back 8 bottles , only problem we had was flying home , they had to be checked and very secure so we ended up having to buy anther bag to make room

I would hope that anyone who owns a new or older one would respect the guidelines airlines and cruises are applying , inconvenient , sure, but for the safety of all it's worth it

Not really , I know some people do not like sitting with strangers, if there is a huge age gap or say no way to really communicate with them , it would make for a long week for both parties .

They have changed the perks since the last time i booked a group , when I looked into it recently our small group of 6 rooms pretty much received nothing worth booking as a group , in fact it was cheaper for each to book solo

I guess it's all about prospective , the two things which where the worst had nothing to do with carnival .
maybe try Princess next time
-
In currently booked in a small group for oct ( 15 of us) more then half got fttf , so they will board way before us along with other perks , I don't expect them to ditch the perks that came with it for lucking out and scoring fttf when I couldn't , boarding together Is not that big of deal nor is tendering together , so enjoy your perks

enjoying your review :)
I have a frog who joins me with all my travel adventures :)

it depends , first night I kinda of expect it , but if it carried on to the 2nd night I would just ask to be moved. It's about setting a mood for me , personally I do not want to look across my table on formal night and see someone in a t-shirt and shorts.
-
I would love to see a rule for NO perfume of any kind
Enforced dress code or have ytd be "dress how you wish " I'm not the dress police , how you choose to dress is your choice but I do enjoy looking around and seeing that everyone chose to get dolled up [emoji106]
And last I would like to see a section of balconies assigned to smoking

I'm always surrounded with negative peeps , those who notice the bad things first , I just tell them to shut up , I'm not going to spend my vacation ( or any other day ) seeking the negatives , I once spent my time trying to point out the positives to them but it takes away from my fun , so now I just tell them if they are that unhappy jump off the boat [emoji106]

Make tshirts that read something like "our first Halloween cruise 2016"
Either leave them out for them to wear that day or wear yours and hide it and right before you arrive have them change into them as you reveal you've been wearing yours the whole time

what a nasty souvenir to bring back from your cruise , hope your hubby is doing well
both my grandfather and brother have been bitten by one (separate times) here in California , my grandfathers took awhile to heal like a few months .
Freaked me out for the longest time , I still haven't been in my shed since and it's been YEARS

I would never place my silverware on the table if i'm not finished eating, in fact I would never place it on the table period , i rest them on my plate , if i'm done i just place them on my plate together so the waiters knows I'm done

Carnival offers what we want out of a cruise, a fun upbeat vacation , I have sailed on Princess and Carnival , and felt our style meets carnival more then Princess. Carnival has more energy while Princess is more laid back. I loved sailing on Princess , and most likely will sail with them again , for now the only other line we plan to cruise on besides Carnival is Disney

Cash and pre paid c.c , We put cash down when we board and use our pre paid c.c to get cash out for ports . I don't like walking around with loads of cash nor using my personal accounts outside of the states .
-
Carnival can't make exceptions when it comes to proper ID , and maybe carnival as a company may have allowed it ,but customs would not and they have to fallow the same rules which are applied to every guest.
i'm sorry your vacation was a let down, but sometimes you have to look at it from the other end
-
I would say No , why would a cc be required to travel in general , I know some hotels require a card but a pre paid one works fine , even with the hold they put on them if you plan correctly it's no big deal. Sounds like your agent doesn't like to deal with cash , maybe a new TA agent is needed

Hopefully my photos are showing up now
Parents flight arrived so that meant we where off to pick up our rental , rental cars are offsite so the ride was quick , once we picked up our shuttle it was off to Galveston
The drive was easy and took us about 45 minutes , honestly it felt like 20 mins. Our hotel was easy to find
Drive by Photos on route to hotel
I booked at Days Inn & Suites well in advance and got a great deal, I did have a hard time finding a hotel with in my budget , I see no since in staying at a resort for one night when I just need a place to sleep and shower , at the same time I do not want to stay at a dump ,this place met my budget and our needs. At first it appeared very empty and the hotel which shares the same parking lot was under remodel and a name change so it felt very isolated.
Check in was quick , only complaint at this point is the SLOW elevator , it took us longer to catch it then it did to check in.
Room was huge which was not expected , sadly I failed to take any photos of our room , it had plenty of space for 4 adults and all our bags , room was very clean . We did luck out and get a room with a balcony
At this point I was still lacking coffee and we had plans to join some family members who live in the Houston area for dinner at Jimmy's on the Pier ( if you look at the above photo you can see how close Jimmy's in)
So i was forced to give the hotel coffee a go , it was horrible but did the trick .
Now it was off to dinner fallowed with a stop at walmart to replace my damaged bag
