  1. I chose chair hogs. It drives me crazy to go up on deck and have to wander around looking for chairs, while so many sit empty with an item or towel tossed on them. It kills me when you notice some chairs sit empty for hours on end because someone got up early and "reserved" it for later after they roll out of bed have a late leisurely breakfast and do whatever else they need to and meanwhile there are people ready to use the chairs who can't find a spot. NCL is hit and miss with enforcement. I have been on cruises where the dots were used and enforced and others where the staff would just shrug and say there was nothing they could do when someone complained.

    What dots?

  2. What cat. did you book? Just curious. :) Enjoy your cruise!

We booked an outside with a free upgrade to a BD. Actually we got what I believe to be a fantastic deal. Even if someoen did better I am 100% pleased. We are in a BD cabin, 10th deck. Three of us. Our grand total for all three including cruise fare, taxes, and DSF was less than $1800. We also got the the UDP free for the first two of us. Things just fell in place, right time, right place I guess.

  3. Totally blushing now. Yes, that is me. :o You are not only my friend now, but you are my best friend. ;) :D

Well I knew it before but now it is even more so that your husband is a lucky man. Yes you have my permission to remind him of that at any opportunity you deem appropriate! :)

  4. And with that kind of an attitude you will have a great cruise!

P.S. I used the word check-in, but you used the word boarding, and I was treating them one and the same. But I'm thinking if you're given VIP boarding (and check-in) that there may be more in store for you. But I have to put the disclaimer here: That is STRICTLY a guess! :p

BTW I see in your signature that you are boarding the Jewel the same day we are getting on the Getaway. Our 1st NCL cruise was on the Jewel. we had a GREAT time sailing out of NOLA.

  5. Your original question has already been answered but I wanted to chime in on the VIP status for check-in. I would go into it not expecting anything more than VIP check-in......but I'm guessing that you might be getting more than that. That is STRICTLY a guess.

    Enjoy!! :D

Thanks... I fully understand what you are saying. I have heard a LOT of people confuse the check in v. boarding. In this case I am absolutely sure it is the VIP boarding that we were given. Even so, I am not really going in with expectations. Heck after all it IS a cruise VACATION. As long as I mke it to the pier on time and they get me on the ship and to my cabin I am good!

  6. Thank you so much for the kind words. Mom x4: ages 27, 25, 19 and 6  with 2 grandchildren 3-7 months apart from the youngest and 2 other grandchildren only a few months old now. :D

If you ever have a spare moment, you are welcome to read my Getaway review (listed in my signature line). It has TONS of pictures and....it can be quite humorous at times...if you need a good laugh. :o

OK excuse me for being a stalker and looking at your profile, but if that picture of the woman with the longish brown hair is you, there is no way on God's green Earth that you have a child who is 27. Well not unless you had your first kid when you were like 10 or so! Tell me that is one of your daughters please...

I actually think I have your review bookmarked. I will go look for it to see and if not I'll read though it.

  7. Whew. So glad. I like friends. Especially cruise friends. :D I do not intentionally try to degrade or be mean to anyone, but as you stated, it's sometimes hard to tell on the internet. But, I do like to joke a lot, laughter is great medicine, and sometimes I think people might not get it or take it the wrong way. So, I just wanted to be sure. :o

I hope you have a wonderful Getaway cruise. We just went a little over a month ago. She's a beautiful ship with so much to do. :)

Having a good time or not having a good time is 95% (if not 100%) your own choice. No one can MAKE me anything, let alone feel a certain way. Yeah sometimes it is a tad difficult to make that choice to be happy and enjoy yourself when someoen around you si doing everything possible to get you to choose otherwise, but I do my best to refuse to give others that level of power and control over me... In that light, there is absolutely no doubt what-so-ever that I will enjoy my cruise no matter what.

As for humor, if it were not for that and laughter, our whole time on this big ball of dirt would be worthless. Its not like any of us get out of here alive anyway, right? :) I have no idea of your family situation, but if you are or ever will be a mom, I am thinking you will be excellent at it. You seem to have a great outlook on things and passing that along to a future generation would be a good thing.

Thank you for all of your kind feeback. It is really appreciated!

  8. Last year we received an upgrade just a few days before we traveled. We didn't realize that we were VIP until we got to the port in Seattle. As soon as we arrived they whisked us out of the regular line, gave us a VIP sign to carry, quickly ushered us to the VIP lounge for check in where refreshments and drinks were served, then private escort to Cagney's for lunch!!! As soon as lunch was over we were escorted to our lovely room, a 2 bedroom family suite with balcony. The entire week we were treated to our own concierge and butler, also complimentary champagne, chocolates, and other delectable treats!!! Congratulations to you on your VIP status!!! Go forth and enjoy!!!!

Thank you very much for your kind words.

  9. I wasn't being rude. I was saying you needed a cruise to add to that list since it only had 2 cruises in 2011. I wish a cruise on everyone. :D Sorry if I offened you. It was not my intention at all. :o

It was not taken that way at all, not even slightly. Sometimes on this damn interwebs things can be read in a completely different light than they are written. (Actually I think that this is what causes most of the flame wars on the interwebs.) It is pretty difficult to offend me and beliwve me, if I wanted to let you know that you were being a (fill in derogatory term of choice here) you would absolutely know it 100%! :D

We are all good my friend! Actually I was pleasantly surprised that someone picked up on my signature and what it is about...

  10. Hi All,

We are currently booked on the Getaway for October. We got the 'kids sail free' promo for this booking. If we should have to change this reservation would the promo stay with us as long as we don't cancel. Essentially we are transferring, not cancelling, or is there no way this would fly with NCL?

What do you mean by 'transferring'?

  11. A shot in the dark----

Are you using Chrome, perhaps? Earlier this year Chrome did an update and it kind of half-broke the NCL website. It works somewhat better now, but it continues to be a bit fussy and sometimes even just stalls out and gives up.

It's bad enough that I have to fire up *ugh* IE if I want to do anything on My NCL.

That is because Chrome is a non-complaint browser. It does not adhere to the W3C code standards.

  12. I was not able to keep the prior credit I had for booking initially during a DASH sale. I was able to combine the KSF with an AARP rate for their grandmother to bring the price down, but lost the $50 OBC.

Last time they had the KSF I was able to combine the KSF and the free UDP. The price of our cruise also dropped the week before. Our total cost went from almost $3,000 to close to $1600.

  13. Just another in a long, long list of cutbacks by NCL. Between the cutbacks and the continued nickel and diming I don't know how they get people to cruise a second time on NCL. I guess the ignorant masses are easily fooled.

I'd MUCh rather pay for what I actually use/do on a cruise than have to pay a huge fee to cover what everyone else wants to do.
