  1. Sounds like the reason is USPH regulations and the other part would be to get the sale in my opinion.

I don't think the safety concern is that accurate, given that you can fly with a cake. Time also shouldn't be an issue given the right cake. I once took a cake for my mother's birthday on the following path/transit:

Carlo's Bakery in Hoboken NJ via PATH train to Jersey City, Jersey City - Manhattan via PATH train, Manhattan to JFK via Long Island Railroad, JFK-Columbus Ohio via Airplane (had to send through X-Ray at airport, but other than that the cake box was not even opened (opaque white box)), then the drive home from the airport. All in all it was probably around an 8 hour trip and survived with no issues tasting great.

All that being said, for only 3 people I'd suggest just ordering a cake from carnival, much easier, it was a pain to transport a cake (though worth it :) )

  2. Just my opinion but...for a honeymoon I would much rather have the balcony cabin than the OV even if it does have extra room (especially for the lower price) and you get the "newer" ship.

The balcony can be so romantic watching the sunset before dinner or star gazing at night, quiet breakfasts alone on the patio... consider the upgrade and ship change a wedding gift from Carnival, order a bottle of champagne and enjoy it on your balcony the first night! Best Wishes!!!

I also had a scenic oceanview (although a 6J) for my honeymoon and was switched to an 8D. I think part of the disappointment is that a 6J is such a unique cabin that not many get to experience, and would be more memorable, whereas there are numerous balcony cabins on board and not anything special about them.

  3. DH talked to carnival on the phone this evening and they want to downgrade us to a deluxe family ocean view on the liberty which I believe is something like a 6d from our 6k grand scenic ocean view on the Valor. No thank you. Still don't know what we are going to do. Also the rep said Valor itineraries would be out tomorrow.

My 6J was "upgraded" to an 8D, and I know others with 6K's that were upgraded to 8Ds.

If that's something that interests you I would insist on getting the balcony.

  4. My guess is they're planning a dry dock for Valor, but since they have multiple sailings from PC and only the one from SJ, they're swapping ships before dry docking Valor.

The thing I don't like is that they keep making these changes AFTER bookings are opened for these cruises. I understand some things can happen but location changes, dry docks, itinerary changes, they should be planning enough into the future to know those before bookings are opened for those cruises.

  5. I'm in the same boat (no pun intended). I'm in a 6J on the Liberty, which they don't have. I already have to move from a 6K on Conquest to the 6J on Liberty because they canceled conquest on my sailing date and there were no 6K's for Valor (can't change the sail date since this is for my honeymoon).

Keep me posted if you get any information. I'll do the same.

  6. If you book with Carnival they should give you a balcony room. I had room 9200 on Conquest, they put us into a balcony on Splendor. I think the balcony room is not as nice as the room I had, but it is at least something.

I could've gotten a balcony room, but it would've been same price and I agree not as nice. Instead I got 9196, a Scenic Ocean View, for $300 less. That was what was initially worked out and put on hold at least. My PVP is on vacation so nothing will be finalized until she's back.

  7. I was on Conquest 4/26/15, and now have to find a new cruise altogether (that's the cutoff date when Splendor is going to change from the Conquest's 7-day sailings).

I was also in 9201, so will be difficult to impossible to find a similar cabin. Bummer, this is the Honeymoon cruise so was very excited.

Rates are being locked for similar accommodations on similar sailings, also giving $50 OBC per person.

Nobody should have airline reservations since that's over a year out and I don't know any airlines that book that early, but document change fees are being covered up to $200 each with a refundable OBC.
