  1. Hello!

We will be sailing out of Rome on 5/28. This particular cruise has 2 embarkations, and I just had a quick question for those of you who may have taken a similar cruise. When we get to Barcelona, most of the ship will be ending their cruise. Does this make it difficult for those who got on in Rome to get off the ship for their port day? Thinking back on previous cruises, debarkation can be so hectic, and I just wasn't sure if it will affect us.

    Thanks!

  2. Can I ask your reasons for wanting to be close to Termini?

Sure! I get anxious and stressed out easily in unknown situations. My husband and I have also never traveled overseas. So, the idea of being close to the main train station appealed to me. This way, we won't have to lug our luggage all over to get to the hotel, then 3 days later lug it back to get to the ship. I just wanted to minimize the stress (it is a vacation, after all!).

  3. I just booked our pre-cruise hotel at The Independent. I like the idea of being around the corner from Termini (even though I've read other parts of the city are nicer), and the hotel got really good reviews. I've also read that the rooms are bigger than the European standard. (of course, that could still be quiet a bit smaller than American standards, lol) :)

  4.

Another thing you can do is take a flight to a connecting city in Europe, get an airport hotel room there, and spend a few hours exploring a new city..

How would you go about finding a flight to do that? I'm not a very experienced flier (only flown twice ever; this will be the first international), so I'm afraid I don't know the ins and outs of finding these things. :D

  5. Thanks for the reply. I guess I'll just have to see if they add any later flights. We still have time. I just wanted to have an idea in case I stumble across a good deal.

I have been considering getting a private transfer from the port to the airport. We're a group of 4, so it wouldn't be too terrible.

  6. Hello!

We’re going on a Med cruise next summer. It’s our first time travelling internationally and I’m a bit nervous. When we cruise to the Caribbean we always drive, so I’ve never encountered this problem. I’m trying to figure out if we should try to make an 11:55am flight, or if we’d be better off catching one the next day. Our ship arrives in Civitavecchia at 7am, and we’ll most likely take the train to the airport. I’ve been getting a feel for when flights are offered and it looks like the latest (without a huge layover involved) would leave at 11:55am. Do you think this is enough time? If not, are there many inexpensive hotels near the airport in Rome?

    Thanks for the help!

  7. I'm hoping some of you can help me wrap my head around this. :) We're going on a Western Med cruise out of Civitavecchia in 2015. I noticed that the same itinerary is run out of Civitavecchia and Barcelona, and the dates overlap with each other (it leaves out of Civitavecchia on 5/21, then out of Barcelona on 5/24--they're both 7 day cruises). How does this work when you take on more people at the port? Can you still have a normal port day? What is the process when you get back on the ship? How does this affect muster?

Any information I can get would be great! Thanks!

  8. Everyone has to find what works for them and I would never just depend on one thing I had never tried.

I don't think I would be able to use the sea bands and nothing else. I would be too nervous. Unfortunately, since I have gotten sick previously, now that's all I can think about. Half of it is a mind game for me. On my last cruise I had a routine of bonine and ginger pills. That seemed to work, but it didn't stop me from getting anxious when I could really feel the ship moving.

It's nice to hear that since it's such a big ship, it isn't felt as much. In my mind I thought it would be the opposite. :)

  9. Thanks for the replies! This time around we are midship (I learned that pretty quickly after being all the way forward on the first one!). I also plan on taking bonine and ginger pills the whole time. It just caught me off guard the first time since I've never had any kind of motion sickness, and that was on a small ship compared to the Allure.

My husband laughs at me bc I can tell the second we start moving. The sway of the ship also stays with me a couple days after we get home. I guess I'm just weird like that. :)

  10. This will be my third cruise, but first on RCCL. I'm a bit intimidated by the size of the Allure, and I'm concerned about seasickness. How much do you feel the ship move? On my first cruise I did get seasick, but I think it was due to cabin placement. On my second one I didn't get sick, but I was more prepared. I'm just paranoid, I guess. Our cabin will be on deck 3, interior. Any thoughts?

    Thanks!
