  1. Yes we went to Amedee last time and thoroughly enjoyed it. Going again with the kids in a weeks time.

It was a tad pricey but the food was great, the island was good for photography and the glass bottom boat was very enjoyable and perfect for seeing the sea turtles, fish and giant brain coral.

The tour operators were good value and did everything - took us over by boat, helped cook and serve the meals, provided the music and climbing up palm tree demonstrations .

They served free rum punch at lunch and I tell you what..it is POTENT! :)

Worthwhile climbing up the lighthouse....but do that BEFORE the rum punch, lol!

  2. After my first cruise, which was a bit rocky I had the land sickness for nine days straight. It was so bad that I didn't feel confident leaving the house.People would have thought I was drunk! Freaked me out a bit.

I worried so much that it would happen again but I did go on a second cruise and the waters were much calmer and didn't experience any land sickness afterward.

Preparing for my third cruise in ten days time - who knows what the outcome will be. I hope the waters will be calm, although I must admit, I did kind of enjoy it when the ship was rolling :) I don't seem to suffer from "sea" sickness.

  3. Well, I don't know WHAT I was eating every morning for breakfast on our last cruise....I "thought' it was creamed rice...next to the prunes and the tinned peaches. But it wasn't creamed rice. It may have been cottage cheese. (looked like it)

Anyway, whatever it was, it went nicely with prunes, lol! (anyone know what it might have been?) :)

  4. Just got back from our cruise yesterday.

The weather was not great but surprisingly, with all that wind, the ship was amazingly steady with hardly any rocking/movement at all. There were a few odd days, and not even for the full day where you were aware of the motion of the ship but for the most part it was pretty calm.

I'm VERY happy to report that now that I'm back on land I've experienced almost NO land sickness... I feel ever so slightly affected, in that I'm sensing a very slight issue with what I perceive as very minor dizziness and last night in bed I did get a slight sensation of being gently rocked to sleep, but nothing at all like the last cruise.

So, maybe it does depend on how rocky it gets on a cruise as to how quickly you adjust or are affected.

I'm pleased anyway. This means I can take future cruises and not worry so much about getting back to land. :)

  5. Hi there. Maybe the best course of action is for the two of you to sit down together and really talk about this in depth before you go.

I don't know if you have expressed your concerns to him or are keeping them largely to yourself.

You need to have a plan "together" before you step foot on the ship.

There is no such thing as having "just one" if you are a recovering alcoholic, as you know so knowing exactly - going over how you intend to deal with possible scenarios is a good idea.

There has to be an alternative, I would guess. Some kind of "reward". Something to replace that drink.

He is putting himself into a situation I imagine that will absolutely test his willpower.

Would he be willing to talk to somebody, perhaps with you? before he goes? Even as a one off thing?

  6. So if I just keep my "head on straight" I'll be right? ;)

I'll make a point to come back and report whether or not I get this sensation again when I return from our cruise.

Could be interesting to note whether it IS sea conditions or cabin location or whatever that makes a difference. Could be just a random thing too.

I also DID experience it slightly when we reached the islands...probably the last island, so really it only took about 6 days of cruising before the land rocking began.

  7. I tell you what, the most embarrassing memory of that after cruise rocking happened when I went to a doctor when I got home as I'd been experiencing some unusual (unrelated) pains in my leg.

I TOLD him I was experiencing this vertigo/rocking feeling but none the less to decipher this leg pain he'd asked me to remove my jeans while he prodded and poked and moved my leg in all crazy ways to see if it was muscular pain or whatever.

As if that wasn't embarrassing enough, he then asked me to crouch/squat on the floor and "waddle" across the room.

I laughed and said "I cannot do that while I feel like a drunk person." but he made me try anyway. I almost face planted on the carpet.

I have NO idea what this excercise proved to him....except maybe to later provide him with a good laugh.

Goes without saying I never went back to that doctor again!

  8. Thanks so much everyone. I'm feeling more and more reassured that this is all "ok" and common and nothing to worry about. I'm SURE it had something to do with the rough seas we experienced and who knows it could be a lot calmer this time. (I did strangely enjoy the rolling while on the ship though, lol!)

I'm SO excited to be going. Counting down the days now :)

  9. Ok, I'm not going to frighten myself into thinking "what if" .

I enjoyed the last cruise so much and it took a lot of convincing to get my hubby to warm to the idea of trying a cruise himself.

I'm just going to go and have a great time with him and if I get the rocking afterwards...well plenty of people do it seems.

    Thank you :)

  10. Yes, I did some googling and apparently it's quite common to get these short periods of land sickness.

I also read that it might be worth seeing a doctor and starting on some sea sickness meds even BEFORE the cruise, even if you don't necessarily feel sick while on the water.

I think it's rare for it to go on for very extended periods of time. This is what I'm telling myself anyway.

  11. That gives me hope Mike....so it "may" not necessarily happen to me this time?

I'm going to think positive anyway.

Oh dear....and then I saw the link and went and read it! :(

Funny thing is one other occasion when we flew to the US and there was a lot of turbulence I had the same thing happen, but only for a day or two. But since then it hasn't happened after air travel.

  12. Hi and thanks.

No, I didn't have any sinus problems, no colds or anything while on the ship, or when I got home. I didn't go in the pool either (It was last winter and a cold one so I didn't swim.)

I didn't get any nausea or anything. In fact I felt perfectly fine even when they started hanging paper baggies on the stair rails for those prone to getting seasick.

I figured it must just have been my brain getting confused about the whole motion thing and taking it's time to adjust once back on land.

It just worried me a little because I remember years ago seeing a story on TV about this woman who had this happen to her and it never went away!

I'm sure that is extremely RARE.

Hope so anyway, or else I might be doomed to live on a cruise ship....forever. lol!

  13. Hi there. I've only been on one cruise so far, a ten day cruise... Loved it!

When I got home though my world rocked for nine days straight. It was very disconcerting and I began to worry that it would never end!

Is this common and normal? It was quite debilitating and even walking down stairs was quite a task.

My husband just sprang a surprise on me and has booked another cruise - next week! (he's never been before. I went with a friend last time.)

I'm excited, but I confess, a bit worried that this after cruise rocking will happen again. I expected there might be some for a day or two but nine days?

I'm hoping that this time maybe the waters will be a little calmer, and maybe being in the middle of the ship? - (our cabin was right at the back the first time and some nights we were REALLY rolling) might help a bit? Hope so anyway.
