  1. Thanks to all of you who have enjoyed this review. I have one more picture to add to this review. As most of you know, one of the "pretty girls" is the daughter of my wife's best friend and is a model in NYC. I have her permission to post this last picture. This is her, in the latest issue of Cosmopolitan Magazine, for her Pantene adv. campaign.

Caneguy, wonderful review. But just wondering, is her sister going into modeling also? She appears to be just as beautiful as the one featured as a model now.

  2. Before I talk about my afternoon, I want to put a few more photos here:

    CarnivalMiracle_zpsd56a6078.jpg

You don’t really get a sense of just how BIG the Allure is until you see another ship docked next to it. Here, we’re docked next to the Carnival Miracle…so named because it’s a miracle that it’s one of the few Carnival ships left that hasn’t had any engine or electrical issues in the last few months.

Just a note that since this was posted, The Allure had propulsion issues of it's own that forced the company to cancel a sailing in February of'14 to fix. And it's a much newer ship. Just sayin' since we are bashing another cruiseline...lol. Will be enjoying the Allure in 4 weeks and loving your review!

  3. Hi, Mike,

In post 37, you show a powerade machine. Do you pay for them with cash? seapass? Are they included if you have the drink package? I'm cruising in a couple of weeks on Allure with husband Mike and son Mike (avid gym user). "Mikes" tend to be my favorite people. :D

    Thanks.

That particular machine won't be included in the drink package. Either cash or Seapass.

  4. I will stand by what I said. They, Oceanview Balconies are great, but on the Oasis class, the Central Park and Boardwalk balconies are so unique that I have to try the Boardwalk balcony when cruising that class. I can always do an Oceanview balcony, hump or otherwise on any other class ship.

  5. Thanks all...but changed room to ocean view with large balcony. (Hump) thanks to all of you,...upgrade because of price reduction

Sorry to hear that. I'm sure you will have a GREAT time but Ocean view balconies are a dime a dozen when you compare them to the oh so unique Central Park or Boardwalk balconies. I'd save the Ocean balconies for non Oasis class ships. Have a great vacation.

  6. I am in cabin 9729, all the way in back where I can watch Ocean Aria easily. One week after you on the 24th. I heard somebody say the Carousel runs all day and may make some noise but I've also read that with the balcony door closed, most all noise is gone. Enjoy your cruise.

  7. I am in 9729, a boardwalk balcony room all the way back and just 3 decks above the Boardwalk so I plan on having wonderful views of the Ocean Aria shows and people watching from my balcony. Been on balconies on different cruiselines but the Central Park and Boardwalk balconies are so unique, that I had to try this one. Boardwalk looks so exciting also.

  8. Mike, just finished your review and watched the surprise videos. You've heard all the compliments already but I have to pile on also. What a fantastic job you've done! I enjoyed the Last video so much that it brought tears to my eyes. I can't believe it made me cry. To see you and your family on your trip loving life was a truly emotional thing for me. What a Wuss I am. I am sailing on the Allure August 24th on the same Itinerary. I am so excited about my cabin location also. Stateroom 9729. Boardwalk Balcony ALL the way at the back. I can watch the Aqua show from the balcony if I want and people watch from there. Your pics have shown me so much that I didn't know was on the ship before. Like the Globe on Promenade that opens and the walkway that unrolls from it that the CD comes out and entertains the crowds from? Ingenious! Thank you so much for all your time and effort put into your review. Hard to believe from somebody so young. You have a great future with your talents. Thank you again.

  9. My bad, fixing broken link to nostalgic singing waiters video.

    Here is the Correct Link!

Thank you! And yep! That is the song. Just 5 seconds into video and it got me choked up again! LOL, what a Wuss! Thank you again for all you've done for us. I sincerely hope you enjoyed the Breeze as much as I did. I'm going again next year for BC8 and I have the same Cove cabin I was in last time. I will hopefully see more of your reviews. But you need to enjoy the cruise first and reviews come afterwards! Thanks again.

    :D:D

  10. I tried to watch the 2nd video of the singing waiters in the MDR singing the sad song but it says you removed the video. If it was the same song they sang the last night of my Breeze cruise in December of 2012, it had tears running down my face and I had a happy but tearful parting with the very special people I met at my assigned table for that week in the Sapphire Room. I am still very upset at myself for losing the email address of a couple people at that table.

  11. I have been through this numerous times, and it will not change. You're right, there are pictures of me out there, and people are free to post them. And while I would not appreciate it, there is simply nothing I can do about it. I hope that my wishes are respected, and that is maintained as is. I have no problem on meeting people on the cruises, as has be seen from my Breakaway and Breeze reviews. But that is in a controlled environment.

I would like to clarify that my main reason for not posting is safety. I constantly travel to caribbean on these magnificent ships. If you read my reviews you should be aware that the Caribbean is not exactly gay friendly, if anything it is very dangerous in some countries. In Grenada for example is simply illegal, I know because my ex used to study medicine there, and things can get very nasty. Jamaica is well known for killing gays in horrible ways, just because they are gay. I have friends who fear visiting their family in Jamaica. Grand Cayman sadly has a very similar view on us. In Trinidad is illegal to enter the country if you're gay (yes I've been there). I mean really? How ignorant can they be? Anyway, I could go on and on, but the point is that I am simply choosing to keep my identity "semi" private for my safety and my moms safety. I want to continue traveling and documenting everything without having to fear for my life or my moms life. I hope everyone understands that.

It would be a real shame to loose you, but unfortunately there is nothing I can do to change that from my side.

As for the A6000, you're correct she uses the same lens as the NEX. Sony simply rebranded the NEX line, I am not sure why. It just makes everything more complicated. Kind of what Infinity just did to their entire line. I am also looking into buying another "New" Zeiss lens, but I am pretty broke now so that might have to wait.

I respect your wishes, Gambee. I am sorry if I brought this on. I understand your reasoning behind keeping incognito better now. I love your cruise reviews. Can't wait for you to go on another cruise for the next review.

  12. I see the chair hogs were out in force at the Beach pool. But as you said in video 1, you aren't looking hard enough if you can't find a Lounger. At 1:58 of the 1st video, you get an excellent reflection of yourself and we get an idea what the famous Gambee looks like. You seem to be very careful in avoiding the lens. Here is a secret: You are not bad looking at all! LOL.:D

  13. Now that is interesting as I do also....but Johnny's and Windjammer's toast was soggy and limp. I bake my French Toast...I like the edges all crispy....and I only put confectioners sugar on it, no syrup. That's the way my Mom did it. More French. I ask them for it but you have to say "Baker's sugar or Icing sugar" they don't understand "Powdered sugar".

I hesitate to bring my own baggie full....:D

We enjoyed 11729 but when we go again we'll do the oceanview. I was all bummed about the glass balcony. It was never clean, too much salt creep and even though I asked, they never came to clean it. I tried with a towel, but ya can't get down the glass far enough. I never had a clear view of anything! The noise bothered us a tad also cuz we retire early. So my next booking will be still outside the secret balcony, but maybe cabin 11728 across the hall.

Uh-oh! I guess I can expect more noise then since I'm 2 decks lower than you were. Hopefully, a closed balcony door will make it bearable. Maybe bring glass wipes too. And rope to tether myself and climb out there to clean the outside glass wall!

  14. Cruisingis1 I have to be gluten free so most of the time I just overlook these items and not pay attention, but I do recall some of my family eating french toast I would believe since I seen it they would have it daily in the windjammer, and I am positive it be on the menu in the main dining room. There was also pancakes too and they had whipped cream to and some toppings for the pancakes and french toast. Yes, you can have as much as you want. :D

I personally don't care for the boardwalk balconies but thats just me, but I noticed you got the very end stateroom so if I had to choose that be the one I would want as you can see more of the ocean there and yes, you will see the aqua show perfectly there too!

Thank you, Lyndamr. Really excited about the Allure. Been absorbing all kinds of great reviews like yours, Bugsys', Gambees' etc. By the time I'm on her, It will be like being on her the 2nd time. If I couldn't get the cabin I got, I probably would have gone to Central Park balconies.

  15. Another vote for Boardwalk balcony. We had 10717 (7 cabin from the aft) end of April and always had the breeze. Nice view of the ocean and the AquaTheatre, and full view of the boardwalk. Enjoy seeing the carousel!

No noise once you close (and lock!) the balcony door, and we are just above JohnnyRockets, opposite Rita's Cantina.

You can have ocean view any ships. You can have park view any cities. You can only get BOTH ocean view and boardwalk view on the Allure/Oasis.

Sent using Tapatalk. Sorry for typho.

Exactly about the uniqueness of the Boardwalk balconies. I have Stateroom 9729 on August 24th Sailing and am SO excited about it. Very close to the boardwalk and Aqua theatre that I don't even need to use my reservation for the show. Watching the action on the boardwalk will be fun too from so close.

Also, Lyndamr, Can you tell me if they had French toast at Windjammer and can you get 2nds or 3rds? Yes, I LOVE French Toast!

  16. Hi Mary ~ I am a Boardwalk balcony fan. Having sailed on Oasis class 9 times (7 Oasis sailings and twice on Allure) this type of balcony is my 'go to' cabin for a few reasons.

When I sail on one of the Big Sisters unique ships in themselves I like to choose a cabin that you can only experience on this type of ship. I am lucky enough to cruise often enough and save the ocean view balconies for other ships.:) That is my personal thinking on the matter :)

I think the Boardwalk offers the best of both worlds. A view of the ocean and the activity of the Boardwalk. I have never been bothered by the noise and when there is noise it is minimal.

My favorite deck is deck 11 and the best cabin in my eyes is 11329 or 11729 the very last aft boardwalk balcony. My first choice would be 11329 port side as it is the same side you can wave to the webcam from that large public balcony like Bugsy ( Chris and friends) did on Sunday. You are steps away from the large public balcony that is rarely used during the day. Deck 12 offers this as well.

Curiously I have never been able to secure that cabin 11329 but have stayed in 11327, 11325 and twice on deck 10 in similar cabins.

This is the sunset view as we sailed away on Oasis from 11325

I know I am late joining this thread. I too am enjoying Chris's review tremendously. I gree with you about booking the Boardwalk balconies because of the uniqueness of their locations. I am booked on Allures' August 24th sailing and I have Stateroom 9729. As you pointed out, it is the last balcony at the end of the ship and I wanted to be on this deck to observe the activity on the Boardwalk closer and maybe watch the Aqua Show without having to jockey for seats in the theatre there. Really excited about my room.
