So here is my take on this, when I travel everything is in my legal name (I am a William that goes by Will as is more common with my generation). Do you use Bill on your plane tickets? I don't want to be denied boarding to a plane, ship or even country because my legal name on my documents don't match what they have in their system do to me putting in a preferred name. However I feel that any company worth their weight in the hospitality industry should have a an option for preferred name.
Now that being said their reasoning is completely ridiculous. To me the issue seems to be with NCL computers and employees not your credit card. The card will be processed on the card issuers end regardless of the name if they view the charge valid. I process several credit cards a day on accounts that have names on them and if we use the wife's card on the husbands account it would never be denied for a name issue.

No one seems to have pictures of the menus. I am going on the jewel this Saturday for the 10 day Alaska. I will take pictures. It will give me a task to do :p
I hope you had an awesome trip and got home safe! I can't wait to see the menus :D:D:D.

This is very interesting... I have a few questions that I don't think I see the answers for.
1) Is there no more upsell department?
2) Are they doing this for all cruises? I leave on the Jewel in 36 days and no word. Also my friends in a higher class cabin haven't heard anything too...

Does anyone have an updated (September 2016 or later) for NCL.
I am very interested too...

Thanks so much for the review, love the photos!!!

Do I have to pay the $18 to get an expresso martini or just the difference in price? Although it is my favorite drink after dinner there is no way I will pay $18 for it on land or a cruise. That is just ridiculous!
So... I have heard recent conflicting reports. It use to be you would simply pay the difference for any drink, but technically super premiums and espresso drinks (yes I know it is alcoholic) are excluded from the ubp. I have heard some posts saying they paid the difference some people said they were charged the whole amount. Is there anyone that has a definitive answer that has recently sailed? Also still no word if they will make a dark and stormy with myers dark. Technically it is no longer a dark and stormy since the recipe requires goslins, but I would assume the would make a myers and ginger beer.

Fastman86, is that menu from a European sailing? (It's the first menu I have ever seen Grand Marnier appear on).
It is from Smitty74's Bermuda sailing.

Here are the drinks from O'Sheehans. Once again may have some duplicates, but it is good to have.

Any one know what the current price is for an expresso martini is?
It is on one of the menus above for $17.95

So the prices are actually not that bad except for some of the more fancy drinks and wine

Even then I bet if you use a cheaper liquor some would even be included.

Someone recently mentioned that the cost of some of the fancier drinks, i.e. chocolate martinis, etc., had gone up just a short time ago, pricing them out of the UBP inclusions. (I think they suggested the new prices for those types of drinks was around $18 or $19?!?)
Does anyone have very recent drink prices or pics of the bar menus to give us an idea of what is or is not currently included in the UBP?
I am very interested too! There is a mega TR that Smitty74 is doing where he has taken a lot of pictures. He just started posting it so I am hopeful that he has these pictures. However for good measure I asked if he has them in the thread.
Edit: So he has some in his flickr album that are not yet posted.

Should I use bigger pictures, or are the ones in my newest posts big enough?
Pictures look great! Also I have to say size on the menus is perfect and that is normally the biggest complain I have when reading these mega threads. I can't wait to see all the menus if that is how you took the photos. Also if you have any of the beverage menus with the updated prices I am very interested to see them.

I will say that I just found out that my work does a discount through Norwegian! However I found out after my final payment and the cruise has increased in price from when i booked it so I will not be utilizing it. It is called work play and gives you 10% off. So while you may not get the employee amazing employee price you may be eligible for another discount because of your employer. I do work for a very large corporation, but the fine print says your company only needs to be more than 50 employees to participate.

Thank you! Its much less, maybe I'll give it a try.
Have you used uber before? It is a little different than a cab or car service, but I really like using them. Also if you have not I can give you a promo code for $20 off your first ride.

I know we are talking about jewelry, but I feel that the art auctions a lot of time are the same way. I remember a cruise where there was an artist that they were pushing really hard. I liked the art and could afford the prices that they were asking even though I was fairly young. However before I bought it I went to the internet cafe and paid for 10 minutes of webtime. That was all i needed to learn that they were asking easily double what I could buy it for on ebay. I think that the posts here are right in saying that if you know your stuff you wont be taken advantage of, but keep in mind people selling you something definitely have an agenda.

No. As soon as you board you are drinking on the package.

Exactly this. Just be aware that you will be charged sales tax on your purchase as long as you are in port.

So called in and it was taken off with no problem. Figured I would update everyone. I am a little upset that it was done, but at least I am through when checking my documents. Now to buy regular travel medical insurance for me and the GF.

Did you book on the NCL website? Or over the phone with NCL? Or with a TA?
No matter how you book, they will always try to sell you insurance. In my experience, NCL is not sneaky about this if you book directly with them. If you accidentally selected the insurance option, just call them to ask to have it taken off. I would do this within the 10 day "right to examine" period to be on the safe side.
If you went through a TA, some of them are very aggressive about selling insurance, and they will add it automatically and make you decline it in writing.
It was directly through NCL on the phone. We never discussed insurance it just showed up on the invoice. However I actually record all the call on my cellphone (all legal in my state and NCL does say they record on their end) so I do have proof too, but it doesn't sound like it will come to that.

These are questions I would address with NCL..... too many "experts" on here that will have no idea the correct answer and it may cost you.
That is very true lol. I will call them tomorrow and will get it figure it out for sure.

So I placed my deposit for an October 30th cruise for the Jewel and when I look at the receipt it has the insurance on it. I did not want to purchase the insurance from Norwegian as I booked with my Chase Sapphire Preferred which has several protection for trip cancellation and interruption. Do I need to call them to cancel it ASAP or as long as it is off before the final payment it is no big deal....
I also planned on buying some medical insurance as I have had family need it in the past but did not get it (ouch is all i have to say).

Did not do it online, I called. In contacts there is a AT&T #. I didn't even know the plan existed. I just told them I was taking a cruise to Mexico and wondering what my options were, and they took it from there. Plan added immediately.
Safe sailing
It can be done online too. Go to you myatt app or account and you can add it under international for $0!
In what order is on board credit spent
in Norwegian Cruise Line
Posted
Due to certain circumstances I will have a combination of refundable and non refundable on board credit. I wanted to know if there is a particular order in which this credit is spent and how you get refunded if you don't use all of the credit.
