  1. My DH and I recently came back from a cruise and we had three ports, Nassau, Half Moon Cay, and Grand Turk.

We had arrived in HMC, but they decided it was not safe to have people get on the tender to go ashore due to the waves and lighting, and rain we were having. So we started towards our last destination. They extended the time at port in Grand Turk for like 3-4 extra hours.

Anything can happen, but the cruise line will always put the safety of the people first.

  2. We are staying at the Best Western Plus Oceanside Inn before our cruise.

    Has anyone stayed there before?

Are there enough restaurants around this area where you wouldn't need to take a cab or anything? It's located over on Seabreeze Boulevard.

    Thanks,

  3. Here's the dress code from Carnival's FAQs:

Both dress codes for the dining rooms are described below.

Cruise Casual Dining Dress Code: Gentlemen - Sport slacks, khakis, jeans (no cut-offs), dress shorts (long), collared sport shirts; Ladies - Casual dresses, casual skirts or pants and blouses, summer dresses, Capri pants, dress shorts, jeans (no cut-offs).

Not permitted in the dining room during the Cruise Casual dinner for ladies and gentlemen: shorts, gym shorts, basketball shorts, beach flip-flops, bathing suit attire, cut-off jeans, sleeveless shirts for men and baseball hats.

Cruise Elegant Dining Dress Code: Gentlemen - Dress slacks, dress shirts. We also suggest a sport coat. If you wish to wear suits and ties or tuxedos, by all means we invite you to do so. Ladies - Cocktail dresses, pantsuits, elegant skirts and blouses; if you‘d like to show off your evening gowns, that's great too!

Not permitted in the dining room during the Cruise Elegant dinner for ladies and gentlemen: shorts, gym shorts, T-shirts, beach flip-flops, bathing suit attire, jeans, cut-off jeans, sleeveless shirts for men, sportswear, and baseball hats.

As you can see, jeans are allowed in the MDR, just not on Elegant night. Have some gotten away with wearing jeans on Elegant night? Sure.

Ya know, I should have known! I think I had read it on the FAQ's as well, but thank you for taking time to reiterate everything. That will put things at ease for me when trying to pack. :D

  4. So this will be my DH and I first cruise in September on the Carnival Freedom. :o

One question my DH has asked is if he has to dress up every night. I told him the only "dress up" would be on elegant night.

He wants to know if he could wear jeans in the MDR and any other place with a nice dress shirt polo? He is not into wearing khakis or anything so I really wasn't for sure how strict the rules or anything like that would be?

    Anyone know?

  5. Hey everyone my husband and I are going on a 5 day eastern Caribbean next month on the carnival freedom. Does anyone have a funtimes from that boat/trip? We are trying to see what they have for this itinerary and boat. Thanks in advance!

I haven't seen anything yet as well. However, my husband and I will be on this cruise as well. :p

  6. ***** I had this posted under "first time cruisers" but have re-posted here****

My husband and I will be setting out on our first cruise September 1st. I have done a ton of reading through a lot of these boards which has been very helpful. One thing that I have at least relaxed on is how much to pack and worry about clothes.

However, there are a few questions I have not been able to find an answer to as of yet.

    1. We are sailing on the Carnival Freedom. I chose the option of having the cruise line pick our cabin as supposedly there was a money saver to it. Do you know at what point I will know which cabin we will have?

    2. Check In - I know Carnival allows on-line check in so how early can you "check-in"? Maybe once I check in I will know our cabin number?

    3. For those of you have chosen the "anytime" dining do you like it better than the scheduled time? We chose "anytime" as wanted to the flexibility. Also with this option do you always have a different waiter?

    4. All the shows. I have read that the shows fill up fast. What are some tips to ensure we are able to get in?

    5. As this is going to be a 5 night cruise if there is to be a formal night how do we know what night it will be on?

Thank you in advance for answering these questions.

  8. All the usual touristy places.

Or you could venture out into the town. Not much there, but I can't lay around and bake all day or sit around at a bar and drink myself into a stupor, so I'm always looking for other options. I'm not a shopper either, though.

One of the rare ship excursions I'll do is the Horseback Ride and Swim. It's at the far tip of the island, so you get a semi-island tour on the way there and back. And riding the horses in the surf is great fun!

    - I checked out this map and I find out to be quite helpful. I know my husband and I are not really swimmers, but will enjoy the beach. Is the only way into Cockborn via taxi? I would love to go into the town area just to see it. I noticed that there will be another cruise ship arriving the same time ours will be in September so I think I might try to avoid some crowds if all possible.

    Thanks,

  9. Hello,

I am new to the whole cruising thing. My husband and I are going on our first cruise on September 1st to the Eastern Caribbean. I have traveled enough to know how much I can bring and if I should need to check a bag or not, but I really do not want to have to check a bag.

Is it possible to pack everything I need into a carry on? I am not a woman who has to have everything from cosmetics, to hair products, to anything else, just the basics. I am very simple. I just do not want the hassle of checking a bag at the airport and paying for it.

    Thoughts?
