  1. Well Marge, you sound so sweet....that I can't resist.

First, I do believe that if such a thing had been found in the hallways, personnel would have scoured the security video and someone would have been severely dealt with.

Second, I believe that Cunard would have given you your own ship, just to keep you from passing that information along. :D

Why do you assume that security didn't do as you suggest, just with discretion?

  2. Hello everybody and thank you all for your kind replies in regards to my review.

Please forgive me for the late reply as I have been quite busy today due to Easter.

Sorry to have confused everyone but yes, I do mean "poo" not "pool". Although the pools onboard were quite lovely also which I forgot to mention.

The young lady we spoke to on the phone was very helpful and they did send someone up to clean it away. They also stated that it was probably left their by someone rather than a burst pipe. Maybe it has happened before?

I have come across vomit once on a previous Princess cruise.

    Thank you all.

    Thank you for the clarification.

I truly admire anyone who can experience this and still take the time and effort to point out all of the positive things they experienced first.

I also can't stop laughing. You mention excrement in the corridor and are greeted with thanks, kind words, and appreciation for your review. Some poor innocent hypothetically asks where they can eat dinner on a formal night if they don't want to dress up and get taken to task and their fitness for society is thoroughly questioned.

And now I'm off to cancel my eastbound crossing.

  3. I was thinking it may be fun to use a transatlantic as roundtrip means for transportation for a european vacay. 7 days from NY to UK, a couple weeks in the UK then a return to NY via a 7 day. Has anyone done this? Thoughts? Feelings?

Yes, I've done this for many years. I used to fly in / out but have been crossing on the QM2 for about the last 5 years. I stay for months, though, not weeks.

To me it is just conveyance, a time to think about what I want to do for the next several months. Others feel quite differently, that the crossing is part of their holiday, or IS their holiday, and like to participate fully in all the activities, dinners, and events.

  4. I really don't care how many hours the crew members work, how much time off they have, what and where they eat, or how much they earn. That is between Cunard and themselves. It is simply none of my business. As is how others choose to, or not, reward the crew members with whom they interact.

If my wants and needs are a bit more demanding than the normal routine, I think something extra is warranted. If you and your cultural background say differently, that's fine. You should do what is most comfortable to you.

Never buy an apartment if you think this is complicated or unnecessary. When the holiday season rolls around there are the doormen, security people, the people at the concierge desk, building management, the maintenance staff, and a few other people I've probably forgotten.

  5. ...Maybe people who want to feel better than everybody else, and judge folks for their supposed inadequacies, should be restricted to the Queens Grille where they won't be exposed to the Hoi Polloi.

    Why punish us???

I recall a recent and aggrandizing stroke piece presented in the guise of a trip report in which the writer name-dropped, quoted the price of a birthday lunch, shared peculiar and intimate details about the lives of their poor children, made racially insensitive, according to some, remarks about an on-board entertainer, and made public an act of kindness offered to a passenger in need, the lending of a jacket, in which the brand of the jacket was thought to be so impressive it needed to be included in the retelling.

I ask you, what kind of person brags about helping someone in need?

The same kind of person who, for absolutely no explicable reason whatsoever, found it necessary to inform everyone how much their house had increased in value over the last half century.

You surely aren’t suggesting we endure someone like that???

  6. ...Every evening at 5.15 approx. dressed for dinner I go to the Chart room, for my pre dinner drinks and to listen to harpist, string quartet or pianist.

However more and more I have seen passengers in there occupying the tables wearing "scruffy clothes" drinking "free water" using their Laptops, "texting" or whatever they do while glued to their screen...

Why are you so blatantly disregarding the dress code? Evenings and the required dress, as specified in the daily program, begin at 6:00 PM, not 5:00 PM.

  7. I really wonder why US people still take the risk of leaving the house and meeting other carrier of virii and bacteriae.

Considering the more likely scenario of being bored to death discussing "provenance and social history" it is miraculous anyone leaves their cabin at all.

  8. ...In the elevator I was pushed away, so a group of friends could get on, I did manage to squeeze in, but when I went to push the button for my deck, my hand was grabbed, and I was told (in German accented English) "YOU WILL WAIT UNTIL WE LEAVE" even though the elevator would reach my deck before theirs!...

How absolutely awful! What was the response from the security about this incident?

  9. I admit I have always considered the QM2 nothing more than a floating hotel. I check-in in New York, eat and drink a little, read and sleep a lot, a week of this and I check out, voila, in Southampton. A few months later I reverse the process.

Peppern makes a good point, there are other lines. Just a quick look and I saw that Crystal has a New York to London trip in June 2015 with an Amsterdam to New York return at the end of August. Silversea has a Southampton to Montreal sailing a week later.

While the advice was not directed to me, I think I will follow it. A little change could do me good.

Hi Sterlruth. Thanks for your reply. From what I've read, it seems that there are fewer complaints from passengers in the Grills as opposed to Britannia Category, which does make the Grills seem a more attractive option. But I don't think I would enjoy the view from a balcony overlooking the lifeboats. (We've had unobstructed balcony cabins on every deck on QM2 except for Decks 9 and 10 - my favorite being Deck 12, and my least favorite is Deck 8).

But it's certainly something to think about: I suppose instead of taking two cruises per year, we could take just one and book a Grills suite, but I think I'd miss my turn at the oars with my fellow rowers :) Cheers, -S.

I think if you are a social person, who enjoys the various activities on board and spend little time in your cabin, the only reason to consider it is if you are unhappy with the restaurants.

Because I am a bit of a curmudgeon and prefer spending most, if not all, of my time in my cabin, I want more space, specifically a separate bedroom. The ability to order room service from the Grill menu is also a big plus, at least to me.

  11. I like your style. I hope said opportunity presents itself.

I've called the Tourism Department. If you can collect useful info about the tour operator the next time this happens that would be very helpful and the government will try to clamp down on this dishonest practice. Cruise lines charging whatever-they-can-get to facilitate shore excursions is old hat, but this is something different.

If anyone else can help in the interim that'd be great. Company name, identifying bus number if possible (may be a rogue driver), anything else that you think can help.

I'm sorry tourists are getting gouged. If this happens again, you'll get no relief on-the-spot, and very likely none later, but if you can help bring such unscrupulous behaviour to light, I hope you will. Thanks.

I don't see the issue unless the driver is breaking the law. Pricing the customer is prevalent in many businesses.

  12. I had a very difficult time with the site yesterday. The Winter Crossing thread has somehow put the idea of spending Christmas in England into my thoughts and I wanted to check the date of the last possible departure. I got as far as the first page of eastbound crossings but it wouldn't advance and finally gave an error.

  13. Hi Im_Reading

    Welcome to the Cunard board,

Being beyond an individual's comprehension, doesn't make something wrong, merely unintelligible to that individual. It could still be the correct answer, even if someone doesn't understand, or misses the point being made entirely.

And thank you for the advert at the end; iPads are two-a-penny these days, it isn't "clever" to show-off that someone owns one (and it can be turned off, looks less pretentious that way).

I note that the OP has "logged on" since his last post in this thread, but hasn't made further comment.

Happy sailings for the future on the line of your choice :)

    With best wishes,

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I have only been using this app for a few days and was unaware that my posts were also being used as a billboard for the app maker.

And when will you be changing your avatar? Or are we to believe one of your given names is "2"? ;)

I can see my comments may rub the wrong way but I don't see why anyone would actively encourage someone to go away. If he said it was his intention to participate in the evening activities and entertainments in his jeans and t-shirt, some warning would be appropriate, but he didn't. He understood he was going to be eating dinner in the buffet, he just asked if there were other areas that were also open.

I've gone back and forth each year for several years, albeit on the QM2, not Victoria. I've never taken more than a messenger bag, a small suitcase, and a carryon. I've never taken a tie, much less a suit. I'm quite happy to spend the evening in my cabin eating dinner, reading a book, or watching a movie. Only twice over breakfast or lunch has someone from an adjoining table commented about my nightly absence and thought nothing about my answer of preferring to spend my evenings alone in my cabin. I'm quite sure no one else noticed me at all.

It can be done and it can be done unobtrusively.

  14. Having read both the threads (HAL and Cunard ) by the OP, and also his comments on HAL, I can only hope hat he stays far away from any ship I am on.

He obviously is a s**b, he only wishes to wear jeans and T shirts, and wishes to drink out of a can at the table in the MDR ! Does he also wish to eat his French fries covered in ketchup with his fingers?

    Lynn

And who are you to judge anyone"s behavior?

What's the difference between him taking his preferred drink into the dining room, the subject of the HAL thread, and someone who brings on a case of wine that isn't available on board? Absolutely none.

He came to this board looking for information about what would be available to him in the evening, accepting the fact his choices were limited as he intended not to follow the evening dress code, and making it clear (at least to me) that he didn't want to intrude on those who did. Why anyone would instead choose to suggest he use a different line, or worse, offer specific itineraries, is beyond my comprehension.

If it was nothing more than a wind up, he certainly hit the mother lode. The sad display of middle class pretensions is nothing but laughable.

  15. ...The question is .... Can I survive on the Queen Victoria if I am in my T shirt/ clean jeans/ and vest. That is my uniform of the day. Very comfortable. and its what I choose to wear. Can I eat at the Lido like this at all times? Are there other food venues that I can go to onboard. Will I be shot on site if I am walking the common areas of the ship during formal nights?

No Hissy Fits please.... Just the facts please.

I have used QM2 simply as transport, and yes, you can survive. I have a similar wardrobe: jeans, cashmere sweater, loafers. I usually eat breakfast and lunch in the restaurant and always have dinner served in my cabin.

While I personally find little use for the dress code, I respect that it IS important to other passengers. Some people may be on a once-in-a-lifetime voyage, others may be celebrating a special milestone, so I don't turn up for a fox trot in my comfy casuals and dampen their celebrations.
