  1. I hope you enjoyed your cruise as much as we did!

Our primary camera is a Sony DSC-H10, and our second camera and water camera is a Fuji FinePix - XP60

YES! We did enjoy our cruise very much! It was my 5th cruise... my last one being in 1996. My husbands first cruise.

Thanks for the info on your camera! Your pictures are beautiful! The color saturation is just amazing! Have you or Patti had any formal photography training? It looks as though you have. I used to do photography many years ago... early 80's and had a darkroom. Kids came along and I got out of it but still have my Nikon EM but it's no longer used.

  2. Very much enjoyed your review! We were on the same cruise! I think we saw you guys a few times! We were on Empress/Aft balcony. We're looking at the Dream next August for us.

What kind of camera do you and Patti use? She (and you) take beautiful photos! We took lots of pictures but our camera just didn't do it justice. We had a Nikon D60 but got rid of it and took a Samsung on the cruise. Just not happy with it.

  3. We were just there in August. It was important to us to park in the garage to protect our car from the sun and heat. We stayed at LaQuinta and got a 40% off coupon for terminal parking so it was like $78 instead of the $128.

It was so convenient to drop off our bags and we left for awhile to go get something to drink. When we came back we went into the garage and walked into the terminal. Unfortunately we had to be shuttled back to the terminal we left on as we left on 10 and came back in 6. But it went very smoothly.

  4. I'm from the old school of thought. A cruise for a bachelor party is ridiculous.

An evening for a bachelor party at a local location, with everything crammed into one night would be more memorable and affordable to those involved.

    Okay, now slam away.

No slam from me. I'm also from the old school of thought. My kids are young adults and I hear about expensive trips and weddings they've been asked to participate in. One man wanted a cruise...it didn't happen... no one else could afford it... including the groom. He thought his buddies should pay for him. One wanted a party in Las Vegas.... it also didn't happen as my daughter was maid of honor, still in college, and we were paying her rent. Her doing a gig in LV for her friend wasn't ok on our dime. JMHO.

    But whatever floats your boat.....

  5. We also just got of the 8/9 Liberty sailing. Never applied Deet once and never had any issues with mosquitos until after the cruise while dirving on I-10 back home. We both got bitten by mosquitos at a rest stop. The dryness of the islands we visited prevented much mosquito growth. Now visiting other islands I would have worn the Deet.

We also have West Nile on the rise here in our area.

  6. We were also on the August 8th sailing.... in cabin 7422. It was hot the first day when we first got there and was always warm in the morning thereafter but not too bad. In the evenings it was cool but not cold. I guess we were lucky.

Will post a review tomorrow....still trying to get things under control here. We got a emergency call to the ship on Wednesday while in Curacao.... our son (aged 25) had emergency appendectomy w/complications. Guest Services.... specifically Irene, was very helpful in letting us phone him and our daughter to check his condition. We talked to him daily from an office in Guest Services. Very grateful for this as he was improving daily... no need to fly home... keeping in contact allowed us to continue on and enjoy the first vacation we've had together alone in 30 years. Kudos to Carnival!

  7. I personally won't use a hot tub anymore. Anywhere. I previously owned hot tubs for about 10 years and presently have owned a pool for 11 years. I know what it takes to keep them sanitary.... for just 2 of us... let alone thousands! I got a pseudomonis sinus infection from a hotel hot tub back in 2006 that took 9 months to clear with antibiotics and other treatment. You don't have to put your head under the water... I didn't... water spray mist will get you anyway.

But it's like anything. There are germs everywhere. You just do your best to minimize your exposure.

To ease your mind you could probably ask them how often testing is done and their cleaning schedule and procedures. Should be quite often under heavy use conditions.

  8. I got a call yesterday. They left a message offering to sell me an upgraded suite for next week. I didn't respond. My budget hasn't increased since the initial booking.

Got a call to "upgrade" to a suite from a balcony for "only" $600. Ummm, no thanks.

  9. The above is currently showing a disturbance in the Atlantic with good chance of becoming a tropical cyclone within the week.

    LuLu

Yep, it sure does. 93L. It's close to Tropical Depression status now but is struggling with high wind sheer. Here is what Dr. Jeff Masters at Weather Underground has to say right now about it. http://www.wunderground.com/blog/JeffMasters/comment.html?entrynum=2740

Will be watching it as we leave August 9th on the Liberty headed south.

We live on the Gulf Coast of the FL Panhandle and were the lucky recipients of Hurricanes Ivan and Dennis. My husband is amateur weather and is watching this closely. He would actually be excited by cruising near it. Keep our eye on it but not in a panic.

We've boarded up and evacuated twice (we are right on the Gulf) due to Hurricanes Ivan and Dennis (yes, lots of damage) and have ridden out several TS's. We knew the risks when planning this during hurricane season.

And I certainly don't want that thing ending up in the Gulf!

  10. Good thread! I'm on South Beach since April.... down 22 so far. (and NO it's not low or no carbs...that's Atkins) I do count calories also. I suppose I'm on a mix of WW and SB. I just don't eat most breads, pasta, cakes, chips, etc.... I do eat whole grains. Not sure how available these items will be the on the ship.

I plan on eating a light breakfast and lunch for the most part and eating what I want for dinner. I'm not a serious snacker and would drink maybe 1-2 drinks per day. Not going to be too worried about it as I will get back on track after getting back.

Most of all I'm going to have fun! Exercise is part of that for me these days! 3-5 days per week so I plan on doing that while on my cruise.

  11. Doesn't sound like an upgrade to me.... it's an upsell isn't it? I wouldn't take that. The extended balcony sounds better to me.

I got one of those upsell for $40 to Spa deck.... right beside the steam room and by elevators and the gym? No thanks! We will keep our Empress Aft balcony cabin on the Liberty in 2 weeks sandwiched between 2 cabin decks and away from elevators and seems to be away from storage rooms. :)

  12. Thanks everyone.

Mom and baby are home now. Mom is exhausted and I am trying to stay out of trouble. I feel like I'm in a war zone. I run around with my head down and duck a lot.

Congratulations on the new baby!!! :D Things will calm down fairly soon!

Also congratulations on no smoking for over 3 months!!!
