1. This is the fiancee and I's first cruise and we are very excited!! Tips on arrival, boarding, and pre cruise hotels are greatly appreciated.:D

OK I will actually answer your question rather than berate you to any degree for not living up to some mysterious standards of asking questions... :)

If you are flying, the best thing to do is fly in the day before the cruise starts. Thsi will give you all the time in the wrold in case anythign happens. As far as flying home, NCL suggest a return flight no earlier than six hours after the time you are scheduled to dock upon return.

Hotels, do some research on Priceline, etc and read reviews. Find out hat the cost is (if any) to get a shuttle to the pier.

The earlier i the day you get o the pier NORMALLY the earlier you get on the ship. Read yoru eDocs and they will tel you when they start boarding.

Ifthis is a honeymoon cruise let the customer services desk staff know. Somtimes they will do something special for you.

Lasty, sit back and enjoy your cruise. Do not try to do everything because you will end up feeling like you never got to enjoy any one thing fully. Look into the various amenity offers and see which oens y'all may like. http://www.ncl.com/freestyle-cruise/gifts-and-more

Enjoy!

2. What non-smoker would stand in a smoking area to begin with?! Some of these posts really crack me up.

I have friends who smoke and who do not. They go to casinos together often. At times the ones who do not smoke need to tarck down the otehrs (for whatever reason) so they walk over to teh smoking ection to find them. they do not stay there for an extened period of time but they do stay long enough to find the rest of the group. Kind fo odd though that you want to smoke anywhere but you think non-smokers should never be allowed anywhere near you. Just sayin...

3. 1) So then if you pay for a balcony with a particular purpose and then the cruise line locks the door on you for the entire cruise that's good by you?

2) I pay for a balcony to enjoy my privacy outside and yes, I smoke. I can get a pretty view through a window. Currently there are 2 cruise lines willing to accommodate me, and I am not old enough for one of them.

3) There are multiple cruise lines willing to accommodate you as a non-smoker.

4) So to be clear, until there is not one cruise line willing to accommodate me you will not be happy, correct?

(numbers added above for clarity.)

1) I don't choose a cabin for any single particular purpose.

2) Irelevant

3) No one is tell you that as a smoker you cannot sail NCL or any CCL for that matter.

4) Not at all. Not being able to smoke on a balcony does not mean no one is accommodating you. It simply means that smokers will not be allowed to practice their habit in areas where it can directly affect the health and even life of other people.

4. Yep, they do. Nicotine liquid is poisonous, and there are reports of kids drinking it by accident and getting very sick. There is also nicotine present in the vapor. The e-sigs are still a safer alternative to cigarettes because it doesn't have hundreds of carcinogens that come from burning tobacco.

So, probably not safe, but safter

That is like saying throwing a lit match into kerosene in safe than throwing one int gasoline. Neither is safe. The ecigs may be less dangerous but I would not exactly say safer.

5. I didn't know that. I thought there was not any nicotine in them? If they do, they I absolutely agree that they should not be allowed!

I don't think they all have that and in fact it may only be a select few, but some do. Marketers do a really good job of selling things as a 'safe aternative' and the gullible public takes it at face value without reading what it is they are partaking in. Thsi is true of many products, it is not limited to the various smoking and/or tobacco products.

6. Considering you are posting on an NCL forum chances are you will hear mostly pros. I for one have never had any issue with any of my NCL crusies. Every NCL crew member has bent over backwards to make our cruises the best possible vacation we could have. Not sure if you have any specific questions, but if so ask away!

7. Electronic cigarettes cannot be used in public areas where there is a No Smoking policy in force; simply because these cigarettes look so realistic and therefore other guests’ perception is that we are not enforcing the No Smoking rule.

Which wise person at NCL came up with this daft explanation? "Look so realistic" ? Cobblers.! E-cigarettes look nothing like a real cigarette, and if I wished to vape on an electronic cigarette ( I don't smoke) what has it got to do with other guests?

LOL 'vape'. You do realize that the ecigs that use liquid nicotine in any manner what so ever are extremely hazardous to the smoker and those nearby right? In most cigarette manufacturing plants (including the one who packages their cigs in a red and white box and had a cowboy in their ads at one point), workers are required to wear full hazmat suits at all times when dealing with liquid nicotine.

8. 1) Don't use the general CS line. Too many people in the queue. Get and use a PCC.

2) You can still get the unlimited soda package for just one person. Either write to groupevent@ncl.com and request it be added for the person in question or wait until you are on your cruise and buy it. I would advise the former.

3) Hope you enjoy your cruise.

9. I don't smoke when neighbors are on thier balcony...so its not inconsiderate. I smoke one cigar at night as i relax on my balcony...while at sea...with a brisk wind...that destroys the smoke within feet....

So please...continue....get mad....

Whatever allows you to be OK with your obnoxiousness and lack of respect for others my friend. Excuses are always the last resort. I will continue to be humored thanks!

10. Yeah I usually cruise on Royal Caribbean and they have this policy....and I ignore it. I smoke a cigar on my balcony everynight.

If that pisses people off...sorry...

The worst the cruise will do is send someone to knock on my door and ask me to put it out.....

A perfect example of someone who is extremely inconsiderate and cause rules to be tightened for everyone. Actually on some cruise lines there is an automatic fine of several hundred dollars and being put off of the ship on the 2nd offense. I does not piss me off in the least. I do choose to get mad over the actions of others, no matter who inconsiderate they may be.

Hmm I wonder, since there is not a policy of knocking on other cabin doors, maybe if someone were to do this next to me I would just knock on their door every hour from 1:00 am to 6:00 am and walk away before they answer the door. LOL

11.
Quick question .. Those of you that cant stand the smell of smoke..
Where do you stand on Pot ? Since it appears to be accelerating at rate never seen before due to its new legal status in many states.
For a country that seemed to be backing away from smoking this may reverse that trend..

Of course they would need to bring back the midnight buffet :p
Smoking is smoking. If a place is a designated no smoking area then it (most usually) applies to all forms of smoking. (Yeah I know NCL has different rules for cigars, but you see the point I am making so please don't go there.)

On a different angle, in many places now it is illegal to smoke in a car with children present.
12.
This thread is so out of control it makes me very sad. I as a smoker DO have a a right to smoke if I so chose because it IS legal of course in Designated areas. I one day (sooner than later) would very much like to stop smoking. My mom did after 40 years cold turkey. I'm just not ready yet. Some people just don't get it. It IS an addiction. If it was easy I would have quit a long time ago. You non smokers just don't understand. Although I do want to quit. MY mind is not ready yet. You have to Really want to quit to be successful. I may try chantex in the next year because I know I am Not strong enough to do it on my own. I applaud people who have quit and hope one day it will be me as well.

The thing is the non smokers on this board are being down right nasty to the smokers. Calling us names and being so rude it's pathetic. So for night now I'm booked on NCL and will enjoy my smoke on my balcony barring there is a neighbor who asks me NICELY if we could work something out. And I do mean work something out I don't mean they can just sit out there 24/7 and not let me have MY time on MY balcony things are 50/50 in my world.
1) No there is no right to smoke.
2) Smoking can be addicting.
3) Some non-smokers are rude.
4) Some smokers are rude.
5) If I smoke I try to be considerate as well. Compromise within the guidelines is a good thing.
13. You do not HAVE TO tip anyone on the ship. You will hear about a $12 per day per person DSF that some people consider an automatic tip. I am making no judgement on that. On some items what you pay includes a 15% tip. All that aside, you are free to tip whatever you want whenever you want.

I have no idea about the holds.

14.
Actually I don't, because I live in a rural area. No smokestacks around here either. I paid for my balcony too; your right to smoke on yours doesn't trump my right to breathe on mine.
As someone pointed out earlier there is no right to smoke. That term gets tossed around as if it had no specific meaning when it does.
15.
Depends on whose study you want to believe and I am not going to get dragged back into that debate because it is a circle. For every study you quote that supports your point of view, there will always be a study that supports the opposing point of view.

The difference here is this. If you HATE smoke that much, why don't you cruise Celebrity? Royal Caribbean? Princess? Carnival? And the multitude of other options that you have?

To try to take away every option for those who do not share your views is pretty excessive don't you think? And what is to stop that table from being turned on you someday? Complete exclusion of a faction of the population no matter how big or how small should be disturbing on any level.
It does not depend on anything. You can find an 'expert' that says OJ was innocent... :) Personally I could not care less what those who choose to smoke do or how quickly they commit suicide, go for it. No one is taking awya EVERY option for smokers. One cruise line simply elected to ban smoking form balconies. Tables turned. if a cruise line says I can't drink soft drinks on board any more, I'll just find some other way to quench my thirst. I'll drink my soft drinks in port when I am off the ship. I do agree with someone who posted earlier that some day all cruise lines will be smoke free. It is just something that will eventually happen. Lastly no one is excluding anyone form anything. Everyone is welcome to cruise on any cruise line they choose.
