  1. When I did a land tour back in 2015 with my mom, I cancelled the Natural History Tour and booked with the National Parks of Alaska.

I can't find my notes from that trip, on how to do the cancelling part.  I know we got credit for cancelling the NHT.

Trying to call Princess, but keep getting a busy signal.

Just curious, if anyone has done it lately.

    TA was of no help.

    Thank you.

  2. Up here in the Okanagan, we are socked right in. We cannot see the mountains across the lake, let alone the neighbor across the road. We have all the windows closed, first time ever in the summer, and we are still feeling the effects of the smoke. The eyes are irritated, you can smell the smoke, and you can even taste it. Feel for the people who have breathing problems. You cannot go outside to do anything.

    Hoping for some wind soon.

  3. As I mentioned- I thought it might have been referring to the Westmark. :)

Anyway- the Geraldos recommendation is a great one. I've always enjoyed their food, and can't remember a stay in Fairbanks, where I didn't eat there. :)

Thanks Budget Queen, for confirming the restaurant recommendation.

  4. Katies1: As someone who lives in Fairbanks I don't think that we have a hotel named "Fairbanks Hotel." While a number of local hotels have "Fairbanks" in their names I suspect that your cruise tour itinerary was referring to some unspecified hotel located in Fairbanks.

The Bear Lodge is a Fountainhead Development property. It is part of the Wedgewood complex and is located off of College Road. It is adjacent to the trails in the Creamer's Field State Migratory Waterfowl Refuge, which was originally a dairy. The Fountainhead Antique Auto Museum is located on the property, and (at least in the past) they have offered reduced admission prices to folks staying at one of their hotels. The closest non-hotel restaurant would be Geraldos, which would be a quick walk from the hotel.

Hello Northern Aurora, thank you for the information concerning Bear Lodge.

I went back and looked at my original printoff, and it states 'a Fairbanks Hotel'. I guess that was a generalization until they could confirm the actual lodgings. My bad.

However, good info concerning the restaurant, will have to try it out.

  5. Hi all,

Printed off my travel summary a while back, and noticed that we (Mom and I) were booked into the Fairbanks Hotel for our first night of the Denali Explorer land tour. Checked again yesterday, as we are 30 days out, and noticed that we have been changed to Bear Lodge.

Has anyone been to Bear Lodge and how is it? Better, worse or same as Fairbanks Hotel?

    Thanks in advance!!

  6. Question, I have a cruise coming up, final payment has been paid. Sent in my info for shareholder credit, but was rejected. I faxed my original statement showing the purchase of the shares, but was rejected. Princess states to resend info from my latest statement. I don't want to show all my investments to Princess. I used my original statement for previous cruise and no problem. What does everyone else send in? Thank you in advance!

  7. I am happy you called and things worked out for you, there is no point in wasting those months of your passport....unlike the Brits we get no credit for unused months and as you likely know passports seem to get more expensive each year. I just sent mine off a week ago for renewal and it was $160 for the 10 year edition. I really don't think you will have an issue with the Princess rep at the check-in counter and I have found both CBP and CBSA officers over the years very to be very intelligent and good to deal with. That notwithstanding, I would still print up the information in links and have it in my hip pocket just in case.

Have a great cruise and wave to me as you sail by Sechelt....I will be watching for you, I am normally by the barbeque with a drink my hand waving as the ships go by....tonight it was the Pacific Princess and the Disney Wonder that went by at about 6:30 pm.

Hey Putterdude, is that forest fire close to you?

  8. Hello Katies in beautiful West Kelowna. If you were to click in the attached links of the US Embassy to Canada and the US CBP you will see that you do not require a new passport to make this cruise. I would print this information and be prepared to show it the unlikely event you are erroneously challenged by a Princess check in person at Canada Place. If that is not successful then I would ask that a CBP officer be summoned. You may also care to phone Princess and check with them, given the type of advice they are inclined to provide if you get a negative answer keep calling until you get the correct answer then note the date, time and person you were speaking with. However the bottom is line is the there absolutely no reason whatsoever to renew your passport before you leave.

Thank you Putterdude, in beautiful Sechelt, B.C.

I called Princess, and you are correct. We Canadians can use our passports up until expiry date. Thank you for the links.

Hope this helps Canadians if they had passport questions.

Thank you everyone for your input.

    Have a great day!!

  9. Hello everyone,

Quick question on passports, I know there is an answer somewhere on CC, but thought this would be quicker.

I am taking a cruise/tour to Alaska in September, passport expires Jan 2016, is this okay?

I read somewhere about a 6 month time left on passport when completing a cruise, but TA says it will be okay.

Just thought I would check with the experts on CC.

    Thank you in advance.

I guess I should clarify: fly from Kelowna to Seattle to Fairbanks, do Denali Explorer Tour then onto Star Princess, to float down to Vancouver.

By the way, thanks for all the advice. Love CC!

  11. I also have a question about upgrading. Apologize to the OP for hijacking your thread.

I am on the Denali Experience/Star Princess starting Sept. 7th, 2015

When we are in Denali they have us booked for the History Tour, which we do not want to take. I would like to take my Mom on the Kantishna Experience tour, but it is sold out thru the Princess excursion page.

    Can I book it independently?

    Thanks.
