  1. Really? Cascais is about 20 miles from Lisbon so not sure how a taxi would be cheaper. The train only costs about 2 Euros but a taxi would probably cost at least 40 Euros (one way) these days.

    Hank

I should have explained better. We took the taxi in Lisbom went to Cascais, Guincho, Cabo da Roca, Boca do Inferno, Estoril and back to Lisbom.

    Withou any doubt, cheaper

  2. If you go back here to the main forum for Other Mediterranean Ports and use the search feature to the right of the blue bar near the top of the page you should find something.

When I was researching a few years ago for our Istanbul stop I recall someone planning such a tour. You could also ask your question on Trip Advisor.

I did it. We were 3 friends, 2 of us loved it, the other one said is X. You have to do it with a guide because is easy to get lost, many labyrinthine streets.

We took a ful day trip that included Balat (Jewish neighborhood), Fener (greek neighborhood) and Fatih (the real turkish part of Istanbul).

    I will recomend it 100%

If you have the time go to Cappadocia and Pamukkale

    Bon Voyage

  4. Hello,

We are planning a cruise Istanbul-Athens for next year. We have never been to either and would like to do a pre and post cruise stay without breaking the bank.

How many full days do we need in Istanbul to see the "must see" sites?

    Thanks so much!

In Istanbul there are too many places to visit. At least 5 days. Erboy hotel is good also Ilkay Hotel. There are thousands!!! stay in Sultanahmet close to main monuments or the new european part, Beyoglu if you want to go out at night. Plenty of restaurants and full of life!!!

In Athens, if you run, 1 day is enough but the people and the city is so nice that deserves at least 2 days plus 1 day to go to Delphos which you shouldn´t miss and another day to Sounion.

If you want to take tours contact Ada Vegas Travel. In Istanbul there are many places you can do by yourself renting audioguides but for some places and good Bosphorous cruises is better with a travel agency. Also Delphos & Sounion.

If you have time go to Cappadocia & Pamukkale. Meteora & Thesaloniky in Greece also. Its tours are not expensive either flights.

    Bon Voyage

  5. We will be 13 people sailing on the May 21, 2015 Celebrity Equinox. We will be overnighting in Istanbul. We know what we would like to see during our two days. However, we would like to cruise the Bosphorus in the evening. Celebrity has an evening cruise without dinner. A private company is advertising dinner and a show with the evening cruise but the boats hold 100 to 200 people - not something we would enjoy. There is a company Zoe yachts that one can charter but the boat only accommodates 12 - too bad because with the charter and dinner it is quite reasonable. Does anyone know a company that charters yachts for the evening Bosphorus cruise and that they can recommend the service and the food? Please note the yacht has to accommodate 13. Thanks.

    Hello Janice!

Contact http://www.adavegastravel.com they will do what you want. I did the night cruise with them, was not a yacht but a small boat, never with 100 people, less. All very nice and we share with all of them and had a lot of fun. I'm sure that if you want something private for 13 people ada vegas will get it. I did a tour with them in Istanbul than any agency wanted to do and they did, even better than what I had planned. The owner is a genius to please the customer requests. Good luck!!

  6. Has anyone ever been to Cascais by taxi from the port at Lisbon. Is it far from Lisbon and an approximate fare cost would be great. TIA

Sent from my iPad using Forums

Take any taxi and you will pay what the taximeter says. Say where you want to go and taxi will wait while the taximeter is running. I did and it was cheaper than taking the train. It is close to Lisbon.

  7. In 2007, we used a fabulous tour guide named Levent Somalaz. However, I can no longer find him on the Internet....maybe he retired?

If anyone can recommend a tour guide for Istanbul, I would really appreciate it!

We used http://www.adavegastravel.com . An excellent travel agency also its prices. You can do main monuments by yourself renting an audio guide but if you want to go to St Savior, the Jewish, Greek & Bulgarian quarter and know the real Istanbul you have to contact Ada Vegas. They took us to a mistic place, beautiful place where tourists do not go very commonly to smoke nargile, the place is amazing, they also took us to a Hammam and many other places. We had the guide for my 2 friends and me. A kind of private but with good price. Contact them and don´t miss Fener; Balat & Faith and its ottoman houses. Another day we went to Ortakoy and the asian side, also amazing. Love Istanbul!!!

  8. We will be in Ephesus in Oct, are taking a 5 hr tour then dropped back to ship.

What I want to know is can anyone rec a place to eat near the dock area.

Read from a CCer that at the end of their tour they were asked if they would like to go foer a meal at a place driver rec. He took them to a place that he obviously got a kick back fromas she saw money pass between the driver from the owner!! She felt let down and the meal was not good

So I am using the same comp, as she said it was a very good tour, but we will not eat at his rec!!

Are there any Turkish places we could eat at near port, and is there a spice market near also?......thanks. Joan.

walk through Ataturk Boulevard there are many restaurants, there is also a shopping center with a nice restaurant on top

  9. Hello,

We usually take ship excursions and for the first time I am researching a private excursion. We will be travelling with our 9 year old children and want the flexibility of a private tour. Our planned itinerary is House of Virgin Mary, Ancient Ephesus (including terrace houses) and Temple of Artemis.

Does anyone have a recent review or recommendation of a private tour from Kusadasi? Were you made to go to a rug/leather/pottery demonstration?

    Thanks

    Shellie

I have just returned from Kusadasi. We did a private excursion with Ada Vegas. They are great. Its on line service is the best. Once in Kusadasi our nice guide was waiting for us, Ilkay. Incredible knowledge about history. We visited first Virgin Mary´s home in order to avoid crowds, the Ephesus and Artemis Temple. We had lunch in Selcuk where we wanted to visit the museum but the day was so hot we didn't make it, we were too tired. We relaxed at the restaurant. Contact them, also its prices are very good http://www.adavegastravel.com. AS it is private you can do what you want. No rugs, no pottery.

  10. Hello everyone.

    in Kusadasi,

    Thank you all.

If it is your first time in Kusadasi, don´t miss Ephesus. If you have time, depending in you cruise, you can go to Pamukkale, but it takes 3 hours to get there. Wonderful place. Contact the agency I used http://www.adavegastravel.com. They are very good and their service on line is excellent. Wherever you eat will be good. You can also ask them even in ypu don´t buy atour from them. They are very kind. Sirince, in case you don´t like ancient cities is a very nice village.
