The entertainment onboard continues to be excellent. Last night was Beattlemania and they didn’t disappoint. I’m not a huge Beattie fan, but they put on a great show and played some of the songs that I do like of theirs. It was a fun show.

After the show we headed to Princess Live for the Liars Club game show. Didn’t know what to expect but we wanted to change it up a bit.

On our what there they had a full band playing in the piazza.

And they had this guy walking around the area.

We made it to Princess Live and sat down for the show. It was ok. They gave you a word and the 3 people on the panel gave long elaborate stories about what the true definition is. Then as groups of 6 you voted which one was right. We stayed for about 20 min and decided to call it a night.

Fun story about the Liars Club that you should approve of as a fellow Steelers fan.  Disclaimer:  Alcohol may have been involved.  2 years ago on the Crown I was early for the musical act in the Explorers Lounge and this show was taking place.  I decided to stay and check it out.  One of the words was Aholehole (pronounced A-hole-E-hole-E).  Before any of the participants on stage could start their definition, I blurted out, AT THE TOP OF MY LUNGS, TOM BRADY!  I got the biggest laugh of the evening.  For the record an aholehole is a fish.

I'll be waiving to you on Sunday when I board the Regal!  Have a great rest of your trip!

  2. Hi, Saffron.

On Princess we have usually sailed aft on Caribe deck, so- low down in the scheme of things.

We don't mind the wake noise at all which is silenced when the cabin door is closed. I wouldn't change it to a high deck as I like the perspective from Caribe (or Emerald) and we are far from the aft pool and any noise that might happen there.

The cabin we just had on the Crown-E734 had noise (bass guitar) from Club Fusion so avoid that if you are a light sleeper who goes to bed early.

The Regal stern is more like the S Class raked stern as opposed to the perpendicular Grand Class. I have no concerns about people above seeing me on the balcony. On S Class there is only one deck below us so minimal distraction for me. Deck 7 on Celebrity is where we live.

    Hope this helps!

    Norris

A great help, thank you! I have booked D731 on the Regal and am looking forward to it!

Have fun on your current vacation!

  3. Norris,

A question for you my good sir. I am looking to book my first aft view cabin and I wondered which you preferred, a cabin on a high level or a low level? I'm a little worried about noise and vibration from the engine, but really want to try one for the views. I'm also looking at the Regal and the lower cabins do stick out a little more then the upper ones. Thank you in advance for your opinion!

  4. A zoom lens and a tripod saves me the long sandy walk in the wind with the chance of getting drizzled upon. Normally I would take that trek if the weather were more Floridian but not today.

The weather has kept me off the rocks at the mouth of the harbor for a couple of years now.

So I can stay dry and sheltered on our balcony as the parade of ships begins soon after 4 p.m on this Saturday.

Bananas, especially the Foster variety, are one of my favorite foods!

No one is on our balcony. (when you look at these photos on Flickr and click on them they zoom to a huge detailed size)

The Captain sets his course- "Follow the bananas, lads!"

The bananas are getting away! "Chef, cancel the banana splits tonight!"

I was one of those people! B426! The cabin is on the side you where photographing right by the midship elevators. I was definitely out on my balcony for sailaway!

  5. Norris! I'm back from my cruise on the Crown that directly followed yours and desperately trying to catch up on my work that piled up while I was gone! I might get through it all before I take off for a week in Vegas in March! My mother and I had a wonderful time, but I have noticed some differences so far that make me think we may have had a better time on your cruise. We didn't have a Welcome Aboard show :( The first night they went straight into a production number. I can't remember which one (and I know it wasn't Magic To Do because I was looking forward to seeing that one and they ended up not having it). There were only three on our cruise and the other two were Blame it on the Boogie (skipped since we had seen before and didn't really enjoy) and Encore (which we had seen twice before on the Regal and liked it better there, more opera). We only had Pub Lunch once on the last sea day and my Ploughman's Lunch pickle was even sadder then Carole's. It looked like a quarter of a limp, old Vlasic pickle spear. We were on the same sailing as the Concerts at Sea group, so that may account for the lack of entertainment and events on our cruise. But, as I said, we had a great time and it gave my mother a lot of time to rest, which was very important as she was/is recovering from treatment for breast cancer. I'm looking forward to following along for the rest of your review! Ciao!

  6. Graveyard of the Atlantic is a nickname of treacherous waters and location of numerous shipwrecks off the Outer Banks of North Carolina. This location has numerous shoals and frequent rough seas. The Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum, located in Hatteras Village, focuses on the history of this area and features many artifacts recovered from area shipwrecks.

Along the Outer Banks, navigational challenges posed by the Diamond Shoals area off Cape Hatteras, caused the loss of thousands of ships and an unknown number of human lives. More than 5,000 ships have sunk in these waters since record keeping began in 1526.[1] Among the better known shipwrecks was the USS Monitor,[2] a participant in the famous Battle of Hampton Roads during the American Civil War. The Monitor foundered and sank on December 31, 1862 off of Cape Hatteras. Survivors of a much earlier shipwreck created the lost town of Wash Woods, Virginia using lumber that washed ashore. However, the extreme weather eventually claimed the town as well.

The Graveyard extends along the whole of the North Carolina coast, northward past Chicamacomico, Bodie Island, and Nags Head to Sandbridge Beach, and southward in gently curving arcs to the points at Cape Lookout and Cape Fear.[3] This spot is known as Cape Point, which is the stretch of beach that divides Hatteras Island's north and south facing beaches. This dangerous spot is known for its good fishing and surfing. It is a very famous spot on the east coast, despite its fragile location. Cape Hatteras has been a deadly trap for sailors that have entered for past centuries. This stretch of shore is home to more than 600 shipwrecks off the shifting sandbars of the Hatteras Islands.[4] The sandbars shift due to rough waves and unpredictable currents. Another danger was the Outer Banks "wreckers." Some residents of the Outer Banks, known as wreckers, made part of their living by scavenging wrecked ships — or by luring ships to their destruction.[5] Horses with a lantern tied to their neck would be walked along the beach. The lanterns' up and down motion would appear to other ships to represent clear water and a ship ahead. The unsuspecting captain would then drive his ship ashore following the false light.

The first recorded shipwreck off the coast of North Carolina was in the early 16th century. This wreck was reported in 1526, off the mouth of Cape Fear River.[4] The large numbers of explorers who came to the area in subsequent years had to travel through the rough waters to get to the coast of North Carolina. In June 1718, Edward Teach — better known as Blackbeard the pirate — ran his flagship, the Queen Anne's Revenge, aground near present-day Beaufort Inlet, NC. Thirty two years later, in August 1750, at least three Spanish merchantmen ran aground in off North Carolina during a hurricane. The El Salvador[6] sank near Cape Lookout, the Nuestra Señora de Soledad went ashore on near present-day Core Banks, and the Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe went ashore in near present-day Okrakoke Island.[7]

During World War II, German U-boats would sit offshore and silhouette passing freighters and tankers against the lights onshore. Dozens of ships along the North Carolina coast were torpedoed by submarines in this fashion in what became known as Torpedo Alley. The most recent ship lost was on October 29, 2012: the Bounty sank off Cape Hatteras. when Hurricane Sandy passed through. Two people were pronounced dead from the accident.

  7. I looking for ideas for a small spray can of deodorizer for the bathroom. Don't want something that is always giving off a scent but rather a spray of some sort that I can pack...........any ideas?

    I swear by PooPourri.

  8. All I know is almost every single Princess crew member seems happy in their job, most have worked for Princess for years, so the pay and conditions must be ok. You couldn’t keep a happy act up for 7, 8, 9, months if things were that bad.

You would be surprised how long you can fake happy when your livelihood and family's well being depend on it.

  9. I mainly explored the ship in the early morning hours with few people around and there is a lot to explore and too much to take in or savor in 7 days. I would like to do a 7 day, 3 port cruise somewhere warm on the Regal with plenty of time to just explore and delight in what the ship has to offer.

Come join us January 20, 2019 going to Princess Cays, St. Thomas, and St. Maarten!

  10. I cant see anywhere on my cruise personalizer where I can pre order water...just want to sell me soda packages or incredibly expensive alcohol packages. I would be tempted by the incredibly expensive alcohol packages if they included bottled water, but bizarrely they dont. So we will just buy our drinks as we go, but I would like to have some water in our room.

I believe the package does include the small bottles of water, still or sparkling, just not the large ones.

  11. just wondering - why is it so horrible to put them on before we are all instructed to do so?

Because it distracts you and the people around you and means you are't paying attention to what the presenter is saying.

  12. I have L101 on the Regal booked on an upcoming cruise and I asked about access. I was told it is something they have to say for insurance purposes but they do not lock your door. I guess if you are out there when the ship is underway and you get hurt or lose something valuable because of the wind, you cannot hold Princess responsible.

  13. Depends on your appreciation of choices on Salty Dog and Whiskey menus

    https://www.princess.com/ships-and-experience/food-and-dining/specialty-restaurants/the-salty-dog-gastropub/

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

I saw the whiskey menu, but not any flights. If their idea of a flight is 3 whiskeys, Jim Beam, Jack Daniels, and Seagram's 7, no it isn't a good deal. If it is 5 or more with some of the more unusual or expensive whiskeys, yes it is. That's why if wondered if anyone knew specifics.

  14. Looks like the M&G falls under either group event or private event.

"The Premier Beverage Package cannot be combined with other programs, promotions, onboard specials, or events, such as: group or charter events, room service items, minibar items, special or private events such as cocktail parties, wedding receptions or similar functions, wine tastings, chefs tables, buckets of beer, buy one get one type offers, specialty dining cover charges, food items for sale such as ice-cream etc."

Does this mean you can't use the package in the specialty restaurants?

Also, what about shows? With the new Medallion that is coming out you are supposed to be able to have a drink delivered to you anytime, anywhere. So if you order a drink at your seat in the theater, because you are there for an event, does this mean it isn't covered? Are they going to say, "No, I'm sorry. The string quartet is playing in the Piazza. You must pay for your drink." or "It's sailaway. That's a special event. Your package isn't valid at this time."

Why do I have a feeling this is going to be another "rule" that is enforced one way on one ship and another way on another ship. We now have another topic that will be as hotly contested as dress code and tipping.
