Are we allowed bottled water or empty soda bottles? Can I just put it in my water bottle that I bring along?
You can't bring bottled water any more but an empty bottle still might show in the X-ray of your luggage. Your best best would be to take the empty water bottle in your carry-on luggage. I always take my Yeti so the ice stays cold longer. :)

I always do when driving to cruises in the states. I guess I'll go ahead and look for a hotel in Warnemunde then. Thanks!

On my last five cruises - Carnival, Royal Caribbean, and Holland, they didn't care. I don't know why they would, anyway. Enjoy your cruise. I have to warn you, cruises are addicting! :)

My best friend and I are catching the Costa Favolosa in September in Warnemunde but are flying to Berlin three days early to sightsee. Would we be safe time-wise to spend all three nights in Berlin then take the train to Warnemunde on the day the cruise leaves, or should we go the day before and spend one night in Warnemunde to be safe?

why not fly open jaw into Berlin and home from Rome - most airlines will allow this. I would spend a few days before embarkation in Berlin. Then take train to the port. If you must backtrack to Berlin there are loads of low cost airlines that will get you there from Rome - Google Ryanair.
You could also fly to Hamburg - another city worth visiting - we flew to there and took the train to Rostock and stayed o/night there. We did a post cruise stay in Hamburg.
Thank you

shocked at the level of cutting back CoSTA are resorting too
My last cruise on CoSTA was late 2014 Savona to Istanbul, via Athens and Ismir and back via Rome... on the same ship. (The itinerary was bang on and just before the refugee crisis really became a problem) I noticed things were being cut back, we still had brekkie in the buffet on my cruise but noticed late night meals were not as plentiful as before.
TBH if they continue to offer this type of cruise food (NON) service I won't be with CoSTA again. Yes, low prices but no longer acceptable food standards.
In Rome they used to have a shuttle bus that dropped you off at the Civitavecchia train station. But when I was last there 2014, the bus stopped off in Civitavecchia town. Which was a 15 min walk to the train station, which if you don't get lost is actually a nice stroll along a few roads then finally down the sea front). Remember if using the train it is pleasant (but can get sweaty) and if you get the one day ticket it included use of Romes Metro too.
Thank you :)

We stayed in Berlin last year in the Melia Berlin which is very central and the main station is very close. There are quite a number of restaurants near and also the boats for river trips.
Thank you!

I will be staying in Berlin at the end of March, I'll let you know how it went. Previosly 'i have stayed at the Hotel Ibis-Messe. It was a bit out of the center but the tram stop was very close. It was also reasonable.
Thank you!

Yes, it is very easy to get from Civitiveccia to Rome without an excursion. You can walk from the port to the train station (or take a taxi, I guess if you can't manage your luggage.) Then hop on the train to Rome. Here's a very helpful article from Trip Advisor on how to do it.

We got off at the Termini Station and booked the Hotel Aberdeen for our stay in Rome. It's within walking distance of the train station if you can manage your bags. The rooms are basic--but clean, quiet, comfortable and affordable. The breakfast is good and the staff is fantastic.

My friend and I have booked our flight to Berlin in September with Wednesday and Thursday free then we have a 13-day Costa cruise starting on Friday from Warnemunde. We've already purchased both of these so it's too late to go through a travel agent.
Any suggestions where we should stay, in Berlin, I assume, and then take the train to Warnemunde?
While I'm posting I might as well ask - our cruise ends up in Civitavecchia on Thursday morning so we'd like to spend one night in Rome then fly back to Berlin to catch our flight back to the US early Saturday morning. Any suggestions where we should stay in Rome? Is it easy to get from Civitavecchia to Rome without an excursion?

Dear Tomvet, I read your awesome review of the Costa Favolosa. My best friend and I (from the US) are boarding the Favolosa on September 8 in Warnemunde for a 13 day cruise ending in Rome (Civitavecchia) on September 21. I've only been in Europe once so am rather lost regarding hotels, trains etc. I take it from your review that we can take the train in Berlin to the cruise terminal, do you recommend we stay in Berlin the night before or another city? We want to fly round trip (the cost is half) so plan on flying or taking the train from Rome after our cruise back to Berlin or wherever we fly to originally.
Any advice would be appreciated, or should I instead post it on the Costa board itself?

Sums up Costa! But I love 'em and their ships!
4th Cruise in two years with them in 3 weeks time!
But the positives
Price
Better itineraries than most!
Large cabins
Great shows
Take a look at my first three review! What's not to like?

Will be writing another about our travels on Costa Meditterranea when we return late April 30th! Keep your eyes peeled!
I have no doubt it will be a great cruise because no matter, we will make it a great cruise! THink you should adopt a similar attitude and you will have a great time despite yourself!
