Hi! Looked for roll call for this sailing and couldn't find this ship under RCCL. Are there other members out there doing this sailing? Have you read reviews on the couple of sailings she had since all the cancellations? Hoping by putting this up that I will receive some positive feedback because I have read some not so positive reviews. Hoping I am not going to have to be like people I have read in the reviews and make the best of a bad situation.

Thanks for taking the time to do this review. My sister-in-law and I are booked to sale on the Empress July 14 and from your review and others I have to say I am thinking of possibly calling to see if we can be switched to another cruise going around the same time. This though may not be an option because of the short timeline that we are going to be in Miami. We were so looking forward to this break and it is her first cruise and I have cruised before with RCCL and enjoyed every cruise. We are flying from Newfoundland, Canada so flights are booked and I suppose the reality of it will probably come down to we will have to make the best of it but at least we will go into it with our eyes open. The worst things I am not looking forward to encountering is smell in cabins, shower water problems, and AC issues so I hope at least these issues will be corrected by the time we sail. Like I said before I was so looking forward to introducing my sister-in-law to the cruising world so that we could plan future cruises with our husbands. I hope this upcoming cruise does not leave her with a bad cruising experience where she would rather not cruise again. I will keep my eyes open for more reviews from other Empress cruises before mine and hope to see some improvements. Reviews I have read so far mention the same issues and this is what I am weary about.

Tyhanry I buy the brand of water I like and then put it into carry on bag. When I put up our carry on bags on belt to go through scanner I let the people scanning or checking us in know I have water and in our case maybe pop and wine too. You are allowed one bottle of wine per cruiser. There was one time I didn't tell them and I was pulled over to the side and one of the security people checked my water by holding it upside down (I suppose he knew what to look for which I think he thought I was trying to sneak on something). He just said next time to let them know before scanned that we had beverages. You can pick up water and wine anywhere we picked ours up at Target which was near our hotel.

Was on Independence last November (western) and going again in October. (eastern). We enjoyed it but found shows were just okay but ice show great. Even though we found shows just okay we still enjoyed our cruise and found lots of great entertainment in the many clubs on the ship. We really enjoyed Love and Marriage show too.

It appears that drinks haven't gone up much if any then. I have read that 4 to 5 drinks a day to warrant the beverage package is what people advise. If I purchased a beverage package myself, do my husband have to purchase one too?

Hi Cruising in October and read recently that alcoholic drink prices have gone up significantly. Does anyone out there have any knowledge of this? Also do anyone know the prices of beer and "drink of the day" or what I refer to as "fancy drinks"? I am trying to figure out if drink package is an option but my husband and I don't really drink a lot. We start off good for the first few days and then settle down in the last half when we start running out of steam :D

Thanks so much for all the replies. I haven't had any trouble but some of my friends have been told by travel agencies that it is a definite no and I didn't know if anything had changed. Like one of the replies I too can have reactions to different water. I like to bring my own for that reason and it doesn't help in cutting down on cost too. Thanks!:)

I have brought on bottled water on previous cruises on RCCL. We brought it on our last cruise in Nov-Dec 2014 no problems. Can't really get a clear answer so does anyone on here know?:)
