  1. My parents stayed on a Cove balcony with mixed feelings. When leaving port it was great but at sea, they had mist issues from the ocean spray coming in all the time and were not able to use it about half or less of cruise on the Dream.

Balcony doors don't usually slam unless hallway door is open that creates a vacuum. Never bothered us. Good luck!

Thanks for the info about the mist. That would suck for me, and I believe I heard that before but must've forgot.

  2. We had a cove balcony on the Vista. We didn't hear any noise from above. However, our neighbors in the cabin beside us had kids, so we did hear their balcony door slam shut (more than once) every day. I thought to myself "Really? Can't the parents do something to control that? Don't they realize how annoying that is?" But I would bet some adults let their balcony doors slam shut too. And the problem isn't exclusive to the cove balconies. You might as well accept the fact that no matter which deck you book a balcony cabin on, on ANY ship, you're going to hear doors slam shut. I find it hard to believe, after years of complaints, and millions of dollars spent on designing and building cruise ships, that someone can't come up with balcony doors that will close q-u-I-e-t-l-y.

I hear ya, we had neighbors on yhe Sunshine with no kids, and they let their door slam more than anybody else. But I kept thinking the same thing, when will Carnival invest in something to solve the slaming???!!

  3. There are no cabins directly above the Cove Balconies on the Vista. Depending on the location of the Cove, you will have either the galley, the Reflections MDR, or the main lobby (along with the Guest Service & Shore Excursion desks) above you. The galley will likely be the source of noise, while the Shore Excursion desk will likely be quiet since it's closed during evening hours.

Yes, the doors slamming is an issue on every ship, the Vista is no exception. It'd be great if they could come up with a solution to this.

  4. We're thinking of booking a cove balcony, so I looked at the deck plans. I noticed that there are staterooms above us. Anyone ever stayed in a cove balcony on the Vista? If so, did you hear a lot of noise from the floor above you?

Also, we just stayed in a balcony on the Sunshine. Do the doors slam shut on the Vista? Every other minute I heard other balcony doors slamming on the Sunshine, especially early mornings on port days.

    Thanks in advance!

  5. Not to start a huge debate, but just wondering....

I had a coworker tell me once he set off a smoke detector in his dorm room, and the alarm went off in the whole dorms.

No matter how true it is, watching cruise videos, twice I've seen people vaping in their cabin.

If it could set off an alarm in a dorm, couldn't it set off an alarm if done in a ship cabin? Does anyone here know of a time when the alarms have gone off due to vaping?

  6. For us, polos are a little harder to pack since we only bring carry on luggage for a two week trip...so we opt for nice t shirts because we can fit more of those.

    I like these 2.

Half of the time when I see collared shirts on casual nights, they are of the Hawaiian, brightly colored, variety lol. My husband and I usually wear t-shirts on casual nights and non athletic shorts/pants. I lean toward nicer shirts that are solid colors or cruise shirts....I avoid graphic t shirts with cartoons, advertisements, jokes, etc in the dining room...not that it really matters. For shoes I usually just wear whatever is comfortable at the time, sneakers, sandals, dark colored crocs (go ahead, make fun of me), etc.

  7. Let me put your mind at ease. Here is what will get you through for your much needed vacation. Pack shorts and t-shirts for all but Cruise Elegant nights. I wear khaki shorts with a t-shirt or polo and boat shoes for all the casual nights.

For Cruise Elegant dump the shorts and wear long pants other than jeans. Add a shirt with a collar. That's it.

I also suggest a propofol drip for those that complain here or in the dining room. Titrate to desired effect. If the complaints continue then a peripheral nerve stimulator, ball probes at 80 should help.

    Thank you!

  8. I've done I think 16 Carnival cruises. In the past couple of years we've noticed a sharp decline in the number of people who dress up on non-elegant nights. Tshirts and short/jeans are perfectly fine. You can dress up from there. If anyone here is telling you that a collared shirt is a must, that's just what they prefer, not what Carnival requires.

    Thank you!

  9. I believe the only t shirts not acceptable in the mdr are those that are cut off at the armpit/shoulder. I think they call them wife beaters. I hate hate that term and don't know why they are called that. If there is a sleeve at least a quarter of the way down the arm, then I think they are ok? could be wrong of course.

I don't really like those t's on men in the mdr, but honestly, don't even look anymore what anyone else is wearing.

Yeah, that's kinda what I thought.

And I hate calling them wife beaters too, I try to remember to call them A-shirts.
