  1. I get Cheers! on Carnival for my wife and I every time. She's not a heavy drinker, and even I haven't been able to hit the 15 drink mark, however, it doesn't really feel like vacation when you're doing $11 per drink + miscellaneous up-charge-super-tab at the end of the cruise.

That one more umbrella drink or game day beer seems like a chore or punishment that I would just regret at checkout. I prefer the pain up front: $500 (includes 5 days, taxes, miscellaneous solar system charges, gratuities, save the whales, random up-charge, etc) for two gets it out of the way before you leave. Even the cheapest mocktails and drinks would cost at least $750 for the amount you get.

It was a good deal for us when the max drink price allowed was $12. . now that it's supposedly $50, I'll destroy that in 3-4 drinks under the new rules. Even if my wife decides to stop drinking, 6 - 10 drinks a day easily pays for both (using top shelf stuff.) I'm just not worried.

The typical schedule: A couple flutes of champagne or mimosas at breakfast (Baileys and coffee for my other friends,) beers at lunch, wine with dinner, and then cocktails after dinner and at any clubs/shows. That's not how I live every day, but its how I go on vacation!

Sitting at a bar watching the game, or in the casino, I don't think 4 beers over a few hours is unreasonable. Paying $25 - $35 for that one afternoon, and $20 for a couple glasses of wine at dinner, however, would just irk me. There's the $50 the plan charges right there, and I'm done.

Do a Google search for Carnival drink prices and then map out what you might have.

  2. I believe aluminum would oxidize, but not rust. I think they are chromated steel, and hence the rust. I can't imagine using salt at a restaurant often, so that is not my concern.

My concern is that I am the October 5th second to last cruise, and reports I read from months ago point out that no one is going to fix anything as it's due to be retrofitted starting in November.

I have already come to accept the room will probably be dirty with random things missing or in need of replacement. Unfortunately, this was the only date that works for us, so they are not about to clean the house before they gut it.

As long as the weather holds and the liquor keeps coming, I will find a way to look past the decline.
