Just curious, did you make any Royal Up bids prior to being bumped from your original staterooms? I'm on deck six in a port side Ocean View with Large Balcony on the 4/8 sailing.  Given the many posts in this topic, it sounds like there is a possibility I could be bumped should the policy continue.  I did do some Royal Up bids to some higher categories - just wondering if that might affect if or how I would be moved if it comes to that.

I did not do any royalup beds because I have an 18-year-old daughter and her boyfriend in the cabin next to us and they have to be right next to us, you can’t roll up for two rooms to be next to each other, although I wish I could have rolled up to a grand suiteI did not do any royalup beds because I have an 18-year-old daughter and her boyfriend in the cabin next to us and they have to be right next to us, you can’t roll up for two rooms to be next to each other, although I wish I could have rolled up to a grand suite

I'm just hoping that someone else didn't lose their large balcony cabin to a smaller one to accommodate you.  That would be really crappy on RCI!!!  Glad you got what you paid for!!!

Thanks TNCindy, now I feel guilty. That’s a very good point I hadn’t even thought about that but all things considered that’s probably what happened, because I was told at least five times yesterday that there were no rooms available anywhere, Snd no further changes could be made because it was all said and done according to them. Then miraculously they found three Large Balcony Cabins to move us into. I surely hope I did not unintentionally cause others to be displaced. I would rather believe Royal Caribbean did the right thing, and all is good with the world, well I can’t believe that exactly all things considered, but I would like to!

Wow, Thecanimal here . Again I’m not trying to inflame the fires, but if you royalup into one of my old cabins that you read about, On The Downgraded without compensation thread, now I am curious. As I said I’m all good now but my conspiracy theories have been reawakened. I know I can’t give you my email, but maybe I can figure out how to meet you on the ship and talk about this. I am happy you are happy, everything‘s good, but if Royal Caribbean is playing these games, I just can’t even believe it.

So did you win your bid for this? If so congrats. I have my fingers crossed for my bid from OV balcony to either OS or GS. for the 3/18 sailing. Would really like to get it as we are celebrating our 35th anniversary! Hope you have an awesome cruise !

CDC may not say that directly, but RCI has done that (put aside certain cabins and move folks out of them if needed - for COVID reasons) since the restart.

I understand that ,my point was they had plenty of time to figure that out Without waiting  until 4 days prior to embarkation to inform me of this change. All is good now though! And although Covid is not over, it is now an endemic not a pandemic, as evidenced by the fact I will not have to wear a mask on the ship at all! Hurrah for that.!

I’m delighted that you got a set of large balconies and wish you nothing but the best on your cruise.  Have a wonderful time.

Thank you so much, and again I do appreciate your input. Maybe I will spend more time on the cruise critic royal Caribbean boards and become more familiar with all the personalities  and perhaps someday meet some of you on board. I believe that is one of the important functions of this platform.

Glad to hear it worked out. You didn’t sound greedy. You just wanted what you paid for or compensation for the difference in price.

Hope you enjoy your cruise with your family and friends immensely.

We will definitely have a fantastic time. Thanks again to you and everyone else for helping me vent my frustration and provide me with valuable advice that paid off for me and my family. As I look back I think it was all a misunderstanding that was hard to resolve, but as always Royal Caribbean acknowledged the error and made it right. Next stop pinnacle, Albeit, Not for a few more years!

OMG I called my gf so she could read this specially the cabin numbers you are talking about.  Believe me one of your 3 cabin is going to have a party of 2 in it..

ended up getting similar cabins on the starboard side, I can get used to that. I am happy now but I am curious, does that mean you and your girlfriend have one of those cabins? Never mind Royal Caribbean made it right I don’t want to even know the answer to that so never mind. If I did I might be considered by some on this thread to be self-absorbed, and unappreciative of my place in life. But I am appreciative, in fact I am about the luckiest person in the world that has lived on this planet so far to date. Just ask my wife!

I would bring any original documentation you have with your original category, stateroom etc. and go straight to Guest Services. The same thing happened to a friend recently, they went to guest services. They had to wait until that evening, but they upgraded them to a Jr. Suite. Now this was on Independence and wasn't the inaugural sailing, so you may be out of luck. But I think it's worth a try. At the very least, they may be able to give you some onboard credit.  Also, Michael Bayley will likely be on that sailing, so I think emailing his office was a good move.

    You were correct, it worked!

Being grateful is one thing but being screwed over is another. She definitely needed this to be corrected one way or another. Happy for her outcome.

Thecanimal is a man… did my posts seem feminine somehow? Not that there’s anything wrong with that! Still happy!, And starry eyes you are right, I did not mean to argue with you,  and Renee FLL, if you are on the inaugural cruise, I will introduce myself. I am 64 years old, extremely fit.. and I have been told I look like everyone from Robert Redford, Paul Newman, and then the not so pleasant Bill Clinton, …recently somebody even said I look like Joe Biden, but they got punched in the face! Again no politics, but I’m not 78 years old!

While that is good to hear they have upped your total credit to $600 in OBC, hopefully your email to M. Bayley will result in a refund of the other $400 that you paid for the large balconies.   You are getting closer!

I personally would not want to know if anyone is staying in the original cabins.     That could set off a trigger that you don't want to do while on a nice family vacation.

You’re right I am happy I’m not gonna trigger anything else I’m done triggering. And I did not mean to be sarcastic I do appreciate everybody’s concern and valued advice. I was in a bit of temporary insanity, much better now though!

    Njkruzer,

I took your advice and wrote Michael Bailey a note and 15 minutes ago I got a call from corporate they found three cabins with large balconies together on deck nine which is fine by me. That’s all I wanted I did not mean to sound so greedy. I owe you mjkruzer,  Thanks again, and have a great day, because I know I willand all the other people that seconded his advice because that was the correct advice. Thanks again, and have a great day, because I know I will

I’m glad you finally got somebody to look at the deck plan and issue some compensation.  As you know, I agreed the principle that it was unfair to move and downgrade you, especially without acknowledging and compensating for the downgrade.  Though you may not wish to hear it, I find that being very hyperbolic can often counterproductive in such circumstances, but you do you….even if it takes 14 hours on the phone.

As you know I agreed that my comparison was overly hyperbolic so you got me. I am happy now I will be happy on the cruise everything is great, and I am grateful for my health and family and being able to cruise I apologize to this group for having a bad attitude and complaining, all that’s over now. I do also appreciate the advice, especially from the person that told me to write a letter to Michael Bailey. I’m looking back to thank him or her. And I guess you’re right 14 an hours on the phone did nothing, compared to composing a letter at 3 o’clock in the morning to Michael Bailey. I was polite direct and appreciative of all the fun times I’ve had on royal Caribbean, that’s How I do me.

At this point it is up to you whether you decide to just accept that you got a less than optimum outcome and move on to have a wonderful cruise, OR, you can spend your vacation complaining to all who will listen in the Diamond Lounge and stocking Michael Bailey. Personally when I look at what so many families have lost over the last two years, my being able to cruise - even in a one foot shorter balcony - makes me grateful. But that is just me.

Aren’t you special! I am grateful to be able to Cruise 🚢Aren’t you special! I am grateful to be able to Cruise 🚢 I was joking about talking to Michael Bailey I would never bring that up. Appreciate your concern and your psychological therapeutic the advice. I only wantedI paid for So that I could donate more money to the homeless, so I’m fighting for them, if that helps your opinion of me.

I’m sorry this is happening to you (though the comparison of your decrease balcony size to GS to interior cabin is overly hyperbolic).  I think you deserve some compensation or, if you really feels it will ruin your experience, the right to cancel.

They have closed off entire sections on some ships. For example, we just disembarked Harmony…..much of deck 6 port and starboard forward/mid were closed to passengers.  It is possible they need to do similar on Wonder, impacting your former cabins

Principles can not be overly hyperbolic, but yes my exaggeration was intentional. They should know before 4 days before embarkation that the needed my room, and yes I deserve comp. Because I paid for a more expensive cabin catagory, which I thought I made clear with my overly hyperbolic comparison!

  15. Progress! Fifth time is the charm. As I earlier mentioned I had been on the phone for 11 hours yesterday and after three hours on the phone today I Finally found a customer resolution person who actually tried to help me. Unfortunately the best she could do is offer me $100 per cabin, not the $120 per passenger difference I paid for my better cabin. Because the ship is totally sold out she could not do a muck booking, to give me the difference between the two categories. Each resolution person I spoke with at first thought I had a large balcony even though I really didn’t. I had to make them look at the deck plans each time. I really believe they thought they gave me an equal room but they didn’t and we’re not interested in looking into it further. I am happy for the person sailing next week who reviewed an upgrade. So now I have $200 per room credit and to use it, I canceled excursions and rebook them even though the new excursions cost more at least I’m getting money back on my credit card instead of my daughters and friends having  onboard credit, that they do not need to have. Of course there’s no way to give me the credit even though I’m the one that paid for all three cabins. Still waiting for Michael Bailey to respond to my letter! There will be stories in the diamond lounge about my experience, and if I meet him in person he will hear about it also. Eventually everyone acknowledged  that this was their problem they created and they were very sorry that there was nothing they can do. But $300 credit is better than no dollars credit, back to the phone and see what I get next!

Hopefully you get a response from M Bayley to get some OBC that you can use onboard or cash it out.

I have had some larger balconies in the past and some really arent that much larger.  Some that are deeper, not wider, feel like tunnels to us.

To be on a brand new ship enjoying morning coffee or an evening cocktail will be just as nice no matter the size of the balcony.

Hopefully the sourness will leave once you Look out at the beautiful sea and enjoy to the fullest.🍹🤩🌴🧜‍♀️

    Thanks sunshine, I will
