  1. Keep in mind that the nurses that contracted the illness from the Nigerian patient had been the ones working very, very closely to contain his vomit, diarrhea, etc. The nurses' log books showed that Pham's name was entered several times a day! It's no wonder that someone working that closely and frequently with someone dying from Ebola without being in one of the known hospitals equipped to handle it properly, would be infected. The hysteria about "catching" this like one would catch a cold or the flu is so blown out of proportion!

  2. You would be very stupid to lie if had a fever or any other signs of this disease, and were in contact with it or even thought you could have. I don't think anyone would take that chance. Getting treatment fast will help greatly with survival rate. if this lady on the cruise had any symptoms she would have been helicoptered off a soon a possible, as that is her only chance of surviving.

Exactly...you know you have fever, etc. and your gonna hide it to go on the cruise, rather than trying to save your own life? Ridiculous assumption!

  3. A lot of posters are saying people are over-reacting, hysterical, should climb under their beds and hide etc.

Let's face facts here. The ball has been dropped, the US has under-reacted and that's why we're in this situation now. There are only 2 reported cases, right now, of workers who were directly exposed to Eric Duncan. This can potentially snowball into a full-blown epidemic here in the States. We are not prepared and haven't taken the precautions to prevent/contain this horrible disease.

Self-monitoring? What a joke, of course people are going to down-play any symptoms and lie on forms or to the CDC when reporting their daily temps. Open your eyes, this IS happening, it's for real.

    You've got be kidding...

Do you really think that any of these poor people that work at this facility are not scared breathless for their lives?

Self-monitoring is something that they would be extremely interested in doing right now. Not for the sake of you and me, but so that they can get the care they need themselves as soon as anything resembling a symptom were to occur!

To say that they would be "hiding" the fact that they had symptoms in order to take a cruise is just crazy. If these people are having symptoms then they also realize that they are probably beginning the process of dying.
