  1. Hey folks, Typhoid is for the bad food and water....like what you could get from uncooked or not very hot cooked foods. Tetanus is prevented from those bad sticks in wooded areas, trekking and things like this...

So eat on the street if you dare, but you should make sure food is hot. Water is not what you are used to and the typhoid lives in the water. We think of water to drink....but what about locals when they cook...it is not purified water.....so get a typhoid to be safe. If you don't have time....just watch what you eat. That stomach cramping is no fun on a cruise. ...

  2. Well, it looks like the mattress condition varies depending on which cabin you have. Maybe getting a mini-suite you are paying for a good bed and those other cabin....well...not paying to have a good bed. This is appalling!! The person who went in March...bad bed....the person in April with the mini-suite a great bed. Huh...wonder what I will sleep on. I better start planning now and request a topper. I have not been on Princess since 2010...the bed was fine then....well no renovating since then I guess. Norwegian beds were terrible on my cruise last year, the topper just made it worst.

What do you guys do when you take those 25+ cruises with mattresses that are "old" "worn" and "abused"? Hum?

    Thanks

  3. Maybe I should write princess and see what I can accomplish. Last year I was on Norwegian Star and the mattress was terrible. The cabin steward gave me a topper and then I sunk in it and had to struggle to get out of bed. It was a mess of a mess.

I will start early with princess and my request. I thought refurbished meant everything but apparently not. Send a message back after your cruise. I leave after you I believe.

    Thanks

  4. Cruiserbarbie,

Yes you answered my questions very well. I appreciate you. I know the unforeseen occurrences do happen and the rain was certainly not in anyone's favor. We do plan to walk off with bags and travel light with one checked bag & purse. I have tried to teach my group of friends how to pack light.

Our private car/van states that they are at the ship but of course that means we still have to walk a little distance to get to the car. I have been on one cruise with NCL where NCL assigned me to the 1st bus ride to airport and things went smoothly on that trip, my flight was in the 3 hour window. This time we are staying in Rome 3 days pre-cruise and opted not to stay at the end....we will pray that things go well for our disembarkation. Thank You for the information...it will help many people reading this thread. :)

  5. Cruiserbarbie,

thank you so much for taking the time to give all these details. I had found out so much in my research, but this really answered those questions I had.

Please comment on the NCL Jade's food and let me know what you thought about it and where did you enjoy the food the best.

The other frequent asked question for most of us is the return to the airport time? 50 min. and the speed by which you were able to move through customs at the airport? What time was the disembarkation available in Rome?

I believe these questions would help quiet a few of us.

    Thanks so much

  6. Tercar,

Thanks for information. This company only goes on certain days now and only if after 12:30pm departures. The cost is about the same as other shared passenger vans....a few pennies. I have looked into pretty much all of them and some in my group needs earlier times. This is great information for all to be aware of.....the more the merrier. For those going to Rome earlier than cruise date..there is bus service and shared rides from $5.00 - 12.00 USD door to door. If you don't want Limo service of course. Thank you:)

  7. Hello folks,

A point to make about cruise choice for transportation is needed here I believe: As of 2 weeks ago, I was told the NCL had the usual transportation arrangements to the airport. Usual means the set up is the same but the cost has tripled....$75USD one way. On my last cruise with NCL this year the transportation was $20 each way...such a jump. The service was efficient and they assigned the time to leave....no problem with this. I thought they did a great job with handling, scheduling, etc....but I am not so happy with it that I want to pay $75USD. The cruise for 11 days is an expense with all the tours, but we each have to weigh our budgets. For this reason, I researched and found shared minivan transportation based on number of people. I believe this is a great choice instead of a taxi. I have a few vacancies and on this thread I was able to get 3+ couples to max and we are going to save some $$. End result for us....others will decide on their end result. The more options we have the better. I have one more slot for 0700am heading to airport. (gdunbar14@sbcglobal dot net. Oh, the driver will be waiting with a sign...and a drop off at your terminal for departure. Great service!

  8. Seeking suggestions regarding ground transportation from Rome cruise terminal to airport. Taxis very expensive. Heard there were buses now from cruise port to airport.

On the return to the airport from the port ,I think the shared shuttle services are as prevalent as Taxis. I have set up transportation for my group and now 6 others from this chat group. We are going to the airport from the port on April 8. Shared rides are always affordable but if you want a taxi just for those in your party you can do this also. You do have many choices leaving the port. NCL is $75 per person one way I was told. My group is paying 125 euros/6 passengers. I only have 1 seat for 7:00am departure to airport...how many are you?

  9. Hello, I am on the same cruise I believe. There are 5 of us...all ladies. I am the leader so to speak. I have done some work on our trip since we are staying in Rome for 3 nights before the cruise. We did not use NCL for anything but the cruise and will probably not do anything but Hop on Hop Off. We like the flexibility and not the long drawn out tours....sometimes so boring and tiring.

As for your questions on ports...I have not started that part of my research yet but I think I have noticed that for us to get Hop on off in Barcelona...we need a taxi for about 5 euros to the first stop. You may want to go to that first stop as a reference point. Other places we are using HoHo are small and have the stops walking distance from port I believe.

Like I said....still checking but I did get our transportation taken care of to and from the port. Not using NCL, I understand the charge is $75 one way. Pretty steep for a 45 minute ride...they are saying it is 1 1/2 hours...which is not true. You have to watch these trips on the cruises.
