  1. I am on the Breakaway October 1-8 sailing right now and yes, we did miss GSC yesterday. Weather was bad, swells and winds were very high. They even closed down the vibe for the day.

The captain announced that it was to dangerous for the tenders to come out and meet us and transfer passengers to the island. Instead we headed to Nassau and arrived at 4pm

This is the second time this has happened to us. We missed GSC last year also.

  2. Just got off my 6th Breakaway cruise yesterday and we are already booked for the Western Caribbean cruise next January.

I have never had a bad cruise. Sure there are little things that go wrong but never anything that would discourage me from sailing the BA.

Don't listen to the complainers. Some people just can't be satisfied no matter what is done for them.

  3. We recently returned from a Bermuda cruise in the Breakaway. On our first port day I purchased two bottles of water from NCL as we were exiting the ship. Upon our return to the ship several hours later we had only consumed one bottle. Security informed us that we could not bring the full bottle back into the ship in spite of the fact I had bought the bottle from NCL prior to getting off.

When I explained this to security I was told that the same rules apply as they do when you initially board the ship and go through security prior to your cruise.

Like other ship rules, u don't know if security consistently enforces this but we were forced to surrender a full unopened bottle of water that we bought from them.

  4. We went last year, the first week of May and as another poster mentioned the air temperature was wonderful. Not humid at all. However, the water temperature was very chilly and we were not able to stay in past our knees for any extended period of time. I had to keep reminding myself that it wasn't the Caribbean . We ended up spending a day at a hotel that had a day package and heated pool.

This year we are going in August. I know it will be humid but, I am an ocean person and plan on spending a lot of time in the water.

The island itself is beautiful and the people are lovely, so you will have a great time in or out of the water.

  5. We were on the Breakaway the week before Thanksgiving and the upper decks were closed two of the three days we were at sea because of wind, thus shutting off access to the vibe for us.

The one sea day we were up there it was so windy the water from the hot tub was being blown out, all over people on the chairs. They had bungy cords holding the cushions down.

We were on the 12 day last January and the same thing happened. In addition, on the 12 day last year we noticed that in addition to the 12 day pass that we bought, they sold day passes to the vibe on port days which made it far from relaxing since there were more people than usual up there.

    Go with the spa pass.

  6. My friend got back last night from the cruise (Nov 15-22), and he just finished telling me the story of how he got violently sick on the 2nd night and after 2 days of vomiting was barely able to function for the rest of the week. He thinks he got sick from the fried brie cheese that was served in dining room. He is aware of another passenger that also got sick and also had the cheese. I am curious to know if anyone on the forums knows of anybody else who was ill on this sailing?

In hindsight, it is easy to assume it was food poisoning and I am telling him to tell his story to customer service. His entire vacation was wasted. While on board when his stomach suddenly turned on him, he didn’t know if it was Noro, motion sickness, food poisoning, etc. Crew in hazmat suits had to clean his bathroom in the middle on the night, and he did go to the infirmary. All they did was give him motion sickness pills and never even followed up with him.

If it was me (with my cruising experience), I would have made an official complaint for sure!

We were on that sailing also but were fine. We did not however have the cheese that you were referring to.

There were a couple of nights that we hit some rough water and the ship was really rocking, but Dramamine kept us feeling ok.

Sorry to hear that your friend was so sick.

  7. Hi. If you don't make it to port, how do they refund your money you paid for your cabana? I hope to the credit card? I won't need that much OBC since we have the alcohol and dining package, which is the only place I'd spend my money.

    Thank you.

The money for our cabana was refunded within an hour of the cancellation to our OBC. We had the small cabana which was $399. In our case we are going to use it to off set out final bill which has the Vibe and internet on it, and our daily gratuities.

  8. I had that day pass at the British Colonial Hilton on my first cruise back in 2011. It was a nice day, the beach was quiet, and on the walk back to the ship I had my first drink at a Señor Frogs. Tell me, is that Dunkin Donuts still open across the street from the hotel? Does the day pass still come with a lunch credit? The food at the hotel pool was very good!:)

Yes, the DD is still open across the street. There were two other boats in port with us so everyone must have been getting their DD fix. The line was out the door to the street.

The day pass at the Hilton which was $60 per person, and included a $40 food or beverage pass for each of us. Well worth it, especially since they had a special on the drink of the day (Bahama Mama). Buy two, get one free.

The food was also very good. The pool was heated and the beach while very small was very clean and steps from the pool area. The staff were also very attentive.

Considering you could walk to it from the ship it was definately worth it.

  9. Jfkny, how has the weather been this week? Besides missing that stop, has it been a good cruise?

The weather was very chilly until late Monday afternoon. Tuesday at sea was nice and warm and we spent the majority of the day at the Vibe. That was the day we arrived in Florida. We were a little delayed getting off due to a medical emergency. So

We had to wait until the passenger was removed by ambulance.

This was the second emergency in two days. On Monday the coast guard has to take a passenger off when we are near North Carolina.

Yesterday was sunny and warm but vey windy. We went to the Vibe when we found out that we were not going into GSC but the wind was so bad the water from the hot tubs were blowing out.

Today was Nassau, it was overcast with periods of sun. We had a day pass at the British Colonial Hilton and even with the periods of clouds we managed to get sun burn.

Hoping for another nice Vibe day tomorrow while at sea.

  10. I am on the Breakaway right now and we did indeed miss the private island. It was a beautiful sunny and warm day, however there were winds that the Captain said would make tendering unsuccessful.

We were very disappointed because the island was one of the reason we booked the trip.

Instead we arrived in Nassau around 5 pm.

  11. Through the years and a great many scheduled stops at Half Moon Cay with HAL, we probably were forced to bypass the island about 25% of the time. There were times it was a bright sunny day but the seas were too rough for safe tendering.

That was the case today. Sunny and beautiful, but a great deal of wind. We were disappointed but they quickly refunded our money for the cabana we reserved, so instead our Vibe and Internet were covered.

  12. I have noticed that you can now pre-pay your internet before the cruise. Has anyone had any experience with this ? It sounds appealing because it is one less item on my ship bill that I have to pay for at the end of the cruise. In the past my device would identify the ships wifi and I would enter my cabin number and charge it to my cabin.

Wondering if anyone has had any issues signing on with they are prepaid ?

  13. Unless something has changed, you reserve them on the ship. In fact, when you board, go right to the shore excursions desk and reserve one. (Another benefit of reserving a clamshell is that you'll get an early tender ticket.)

Do you get an early tender ticket if you have already purchased a cabana ?

  14. Just received an e-mail from NCL that our 12 day cruise on the Breakaway leaving on January 3, 2016 is now a 14 day cruise. Instead of 6 ports there are now 8 ports. They state that there are no additional fees for those already booked. Very excited to have the extra days.
