Our cruise is July 6th. We have until April 6th to make our next deposit of 25% or cancel and lose a portion of the initial deposit. The more we wait, the more money we will lose. I'd be perfectly willing to roll over my entire initial deposit for a FCC but not thousands and thousands of dollars for an unknown.

Bergen (which we've been to) Alesund, Geiranger and Olden.

Friends are going on a Norwegian Fjords 7 day cruise leaving from and returning to Amsterdam. I've been to Amsterdam and also one of the stops in Norway, Bergen and also went through the Fjords many many years ago. Not sure if its worth spending the money just to see Alesund, Geiranger and Olden Norway. Has anyone done this cruise and what are your thoughts. We are taking a Baltic cruise this summer that ends up in Oslo, which we've done before. Thanks.

We were just on the Viking Star in May and on the Oceania Marina 2 years ago. Definitely liked Oceania better. There is no comparison with the food. The specialty restaurants are far superior on the Oceania Marina and there are 4. Viking only has 2 (one of which we didn't care for). The regular dining rooms are equal but Oceania has a better buffet. If you don't go to the specialty restaurants and don't like the choices in the main dining room you can always go to the buffet and have grilled lobster tails, shrimp, and fish made to order.
The entertainment was also better on the Marina and more varied. The cabins were similar (we had a deluxe balcony) except drawer space was better on the Oceania and bathroom was roomier on Viking. High tea on Viking was very nice and having excursions included on Viking was somewhat of a plus (cost wise) but we did do some on our own because theirs are very basic.
I don't know how the smaller Oceania ships are in comparison. I was told by my travel agent that the Marina and Riviera are better.
We loved it so much that we are going on the Marina again next July with a couple we met on the cruise 2 years ago.
Hope this helps.

My apologies, Rhona...I just came back to this thread.
Yes, we'll be on the May 16-25 sailing. Spending a few days in Athens on our own pre-cruise, then a few more in Venice post-cruise. Now that it's getting close, I'm so excited!
Today I looked into doing a private tour to Ljubljana, Postojna Cave and Predjama Castle from Koper. It's a 7 1/2 hr tour for $650 and I think the van holds 7. We are 4 ppl. so if you are interested, let me know. I will double check the size of the van in case your husbands want to come. I also looked into an excursion from Kotor to Perast,(Lady of the Rocks) Budva, St. Stefan etc. which is 6 hrs and $580 for 8 people.

We're doing this same exact cruise next May. Can't wait to read your review!
Margie,
Are you on the May 16 - 25th sailing?

Thank you so much for your extensive review of the excursions for Empires of the Mediterranean.
We are going on this cruise May 16-25, 2019. Now I'm starting to get excited. Didn't know how Viking would measure up to our cruise last May on the Oceania Marina, which we loved.
Is anyone else going on this cruise?

That last post was for MURA. (the cost of the tour) It's late and I'm tired.

Thank you everyone for your advice. Checked the schedule and we will be in Marseille on a Thursday.

Going on the Marina in May.Trying to decide which are the best optional shore excursions to do through the ship while docked in Marseille. Have never been there.
Have heard various opinions. The choices are the following:
1-Marseille Highlights and Cassis (2)Aix-En-Provence (3)Avignon or
(4)Aix-En-Provence and Marseille.
Any opinions would be appreciated.
Final payment date delaying?

We would lose $250pp (out of a total $1500 from Oceania) plus an agency fee.
