  1. We did do Isle of Pines, which was our last port of call in 2014. Just beautiful, a place to relax and snorkel with choice of 2 beaches. Water was crystal clear and just stunning. My advice maybe bring some pastries and fruit of the ship for a snack and return for a late lunch back to the ship as from memory the prices for drinks and snacks from the cafe there was pricey. There were some locals doing some food by the road back to the tender pier too.

Here some photos from L'Hippocampe back in Noumea

  2. Hi and welcome.

I've sailed with RCI now twice first in Feb 2014 and just Feb 2015 and both sailings had Noumea as the first port of call. As cruise virgins in 2014, we did a shore excursion that included a city sights bus tour and aquarium visit. The excursion finished late morning and we were free to take aircon bus back to port or wander and take hop on/hop off bus back in our own time. We opted for the latter.

After walking around the foreshore hubby expressed he was getting hungry being close to lunch time and expressed an interest in wanting to eat a French meal. What he didn't know is that I'd done some initial searches back home for restaurant reviews and was interested in L'Hippocampe. So being only 2 bus stops away I steered him into 'checking out' Le Meridian's restaurant approx 10 min walk away. I had made no booking, but was no problem walking in as casuals to the hotel front desk asking for a lunch table for 2.

The meal was SUPERB silver service! The staff were so very accomodating, we were the only foreigners there with only 4 local tables occupied. Drank French wine and money spend was well worth it. This year the plan was to visit again for lunch, unfortunately when I made contact via email they would still be in the middle of renovations so we went next door to Chateau Royal's Le Taom. Nice but our experience at Le Meridian was better, in our opinion. :D

I know of the different currency in Fiji and NC, but will they take any other currency such as NZ or Australian dollars?

    Excited Welsh couple!!!

Hi, the tour operators in the passenger terminal will accept AU$, local currency and credit cards everywhere else in Noumea.

Not to sure about Fiji as it has been over 15 years since I was there last sorry, I'm guessing just local currency and credit cards.

See you next month on Voyager.:)
