  1. Welcome back to cruising!  Look very forward to reading your review as they are always very informative and highly entertaining!

Thanks to you, I booked dinner for my wife and I at Gianni's on New Year's Day.  Anything in particular you recommend us having?  Had no idea there was even a restaurant there!  My wife says we now have to watch the movie before we go 🙂. We will be in Ft. Lauderdale as we are embarking on the Edge on Jan 2nd but will drive down to Miami for the day.

Thanks again and have a great cruise!

  2. Did any in your party try the GastroBar? The beer n food paring is wonderful and well worth the $20.

Don't mean to hijack but what exactly does the beer n food pairing consist of? We were on the Equinox in January and did see this listed (which means i overlooked it lol) so just curious as we'll be sailing on her again on 7/2. Thanks!

  3. Hey JustinAllen,

I had a thought if you want to make it special. Dom could be considered by some as over rated. Although I will admit it is very good. Consider a bottle of Perrier Jouet's Fleur hand painted bottle with two glasses. The set I bought years ago had the glasses hand painted too with the fleur design. That's a bottle she'll keep and remember the cruise every time she sees it. It's very good also and is reasonably priced at Wines & More near me for about $130. Dom near us is $150.

Your cabin attendant will ice if for you and there's no corkage if consumed in your cabin. My wife still has hers and the glasses from our first cruise together in the 90's. Just a thought.

That's a great idea! I'll see what they have it for around here!

  4. There are three ways to get to town. Walk, water taxi and vehicle taxi. It's a little confusing knowing which direction to walk to the water or vehicle taxi. So I'll try to explain.

As you enter the shore shopping, to take the water taxi, follow the crowd that's walking to the left. To walk into town or take a taxi you keep to the right stores. Once you get past the duty free liquor (overpriced) store, turn right and you'll see the taxi pavilion.

Walking to town is Free. But too far for me. The water taxi is $7pp all day or $5 one way. The vehicle taxi is $3pp. I opted for the vehicle. It took about 10 minutes in (obviously) heavy traffic.

Time to shop for my liquor. I stop in three different stores to compare pricing before deciding where to buy. Definitely want to get as good a deal as possible.

But before I go into the pricing between St. Thomas, St. Kitts and St. Maarten (ironic they are all Saints. Did Saints drink?) let me address JustinAllen's Dom Perignon question.

And one more of the numerous wine by the bottle pages.

    Thanks again ChuckTownSteve!!

  5. Hey ChucktownSteve...fellow South Carolinian (Florence) here! Thanks for the review! My wife and I will be boarding the Equinox on Jan 2nd. I do have a strange question, could you by chance run by the on-board shops and see if they sell bottles of Dom Perignon and if so, how much they are. Thanks a bunch and keep up the great work on the review!!

  6. We booked a cruise on a prior one and got the OBC plus pick one of the 123 perks. Last week we changed our reservation to one that had the all inclusive and were able to keep our prior OBC plus get the one included with the all inclusive!

  7. It really does depend on what you are looking for in a cruise. I usually only read the reviews to see the various pictures of the ship to see what it looks like and to get a feel for it. I rarely pay any attention to what people have to say about the ship. Enjoyment on a cruise is quite subjective and hard to gauge. If you're looking for negative things or have negative thoughts, chances are that you will hone in on those and that's all you will notice. Doing that allows all the good things, fun times and great memories to slip by.

All that to say, my wife and I were on the Silhouette in April and had a great time. We only care about good food, relaxation and getting to spend time with each other. As long as we do that, we're good!

  8. It's not exactly a major conversion...it involves putting a sign up outside the door....and a desk inside the room. It was already in place on the infinity in February, I am reasonably sure it's now on all the ships. On the other hand, on the infinity it was only a private lounge until 7 or 8 and after that it was open to anyone. Not sure if that's continuing, but there is hope...

I think, on the Silhouette, it's a private lounge all the time. The email I got said we would have access to this "exclusive" lounge 24/7. Morning continental breakfast, afternoon tea and canapés and cocktails every day. I wonder if all of them have been converted to that extent already or not...

  9. Craft beers available in Sky lounge is a new development, we have heard rumors that Michaels will be open in the evening to all or that the craft beers are being transferred to the wine bar.

Yeah, I hadn't read that one either and it kinda surprised me. Maybe they are in the Sky Lounge in preparation of moving them somewhere else...who knows. I'll definitely confirm once onboard!

  10. I'm curious to see what else has started as my wife and I will be in a Royal Suite on the Silhouette starting Sunday. I know the concierge host has already emailed us and told us about coming to Michael's Club upon embarkation and that it will be dedicated to people in a Celebrity Suite, Royal Suite and Penthouse Suite. He also stated that the craft beers that were available in Michael's Club will now be available in the Sky Lounge.

  11. Great that you went for the Celebrity Suite option. And, then got a Royal Suite. WOW!! As noted in the live/blog below, we just got off of the Solstice last month. We had a Celebrity Suite and it worked out super well. Our cruise was 14-days and having that added room was very nice. With a CS or RS, you are also very central on the ship and near the main elevator bank. That saves time!! Extra closet space. Having a door from the bedroom into the bath was handy. We had only sailed on Celebrity once before, but with a CS, we got the Elite coupons that saved money on the Internet, laundry, etc. Did one night of the Blu dining and that was very nice. Check out these postings for more info/background on this nice ship, its entertainment, food options, etc.

THANKS! Enjoy your Royal Suite! Terry in Ohio

Just back from doing a 14-day Celebrity Solstice, Jan. 20-Feb. 3, 2014, Sydney to Auckland adventure on this ship and getting a big sampling for the wonders of "down under” before and after this cruise. Go to:

for much more information and lots of wonderful pictures on these amazing sights in this great part of the world. Now at 45,935 views for this fun posting.

Yeah, we would have been perfectly happy with the CS...now we're ecstatic! I've been looking through your review as i've had time today and looks like it was amazing!

  12. So glad that it worked out so well. However, you do realise that you will now be spoiled for anything less than a Royal Suite, don't you!

Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of LOL

That's awesome. Congrats. How fun will that be. Take advantage of room service with the butler as well. Enjoy!!!

We definitely plan on taking advantage of the breakfast in the room!

  13. Right, just wondering if there's a particular stateroom class code to ask for. I will call this morning.

Well it started off asking if they had any concierge class (CC) rooms available and he said No, but they had a Sky Suite (S2) GTY and a Celebrity Suite (CS) GTY available at those prices. We opted for the CS as there were a lot of S2 Accessible rooms left and we didn't want to run the risk of getting one of those rooms.
