  1. My wife and I are flying in on April 29th for a cruise the next day.  We would like to avoid LAX as much as possible so we are considering flying into John Wayne Airport.  Does it make more sense to find a hotel by the San Pedro cruise port or just stay around the airport and then take an Uber the next morning?  Either way - what hotels would you recommend and how much do you think it would cost for an Uber to go to the cruise port?

I can't imagine how it can possibly be worth it.  The driving distance from San Francisco to San Diego is 502 miles and you are 5 or 6 days covering that distance by ship.  If you want to do a San Francisco to San Diego trip, rent a car so you can stop when and where you want instead of spending all your time getting from city to city.  Yes - I know that packing and unpacking bit and I know that it is nice being served but I just don't see the point of the cruise.

Now if you are doing it to get Princess points and/or the cruise is really really cheap maybe it is worth it but I don't see ever bothering to get off the ship at any of the ports.

My wife and I signed up for the April 30th cruise on the Majestic Princess from LA to Vancouver.  We were originally going to just visit San Diego, LA, and the surrounding area but frankly, driving around in a city that I don't know and moving from one hotel to the next is not my idea of a fun vacation.  With this itinerary, I can see 5 cities and decide later if we would like to come back for a more extended stay.

We're from the lowcountry of South Carolina so we are traveling a distance for this cruise.  Most of the people that we know from here go on Caribbean cruise as you can drive to Port Canaveral in about five hours from here but our attitude is that we have nice beaches here and frankly, I think that the Sarasota beaches are better than on the many items.  Anyways, to each his own.

  3. My wife and I are just about ready to pull the plug on a 7 day cruise on the Summit to the following ports - San Juan - Puerto Rico | Tortola - B.V.I. | Fort De France - Martinique | Roseau - Dominica | Basseterre - St Kitts & Nevis | Charlotte Amalie - St. Thomas and then back to San Juan. We looked at some YouTube videos on these ports of call and while they certainly look beautiful, we're not so sure that they will fit our needs. We are in our 60's and could do a 1 day beach experience but we are more into shopping (authentic knickknacks, spices and such), city tours and beatiful gardens/rainforests. We're not into swimming with the turtles or snorkling or the zip line types of excursions. Given these ports, would there be enough of the former activities and would there be variety between the ports or would they all start to look the same?

The cruise that we're looking at would be at the end of October and is very reasonable at least in my opinion. We can get an Aqua class room for about $1050 we seems like a great deal with a free drink package or covering the pre-paid tips. The Blu restaurant looks very nice.

Would be interested in your thoughts - we went on a cruise to Cozamel, Jamaica and the Grand Caymans over christmas break with our family on RCL and are now looking for a more adult oriented cruise.
