Yes, she spoke perfect English and helped translate for us when we grabbed lunch at a local crepe place. I don't remember the cost, but split between the 4 of us it was cheaper than a cruise ship excursion.

Do you by chance know if she (or someone else) provided tours to Bordeaux?  Thank you

  2. All of the above - as you, this is our third cruise on the POA and I said no more car rentals. I think just the hours on shuttles and lines acquiring the car really always put a damper on the day,,,,,THEN returning the car. Oh yes, and parking is impossible Everywhere!

Also.....the GPS issue - all of the streets starting with K then sounding the same :D

We have found HI has very friendly and fun drivers - we called and are meeting the driver we had last year - he gave us a million dollar tour on Kaui, even snuck us into a private garden that was amazing!

I actually commented once that driving around the islands can turn a Honeymoon into a Divorce:rolleyes:

Would you please share how you found a driver? I am very interested in this option. Thank you

  3. Hmm.....so your doctor prescribes antibiotics to take on a cruise "just in case you get sick"? My doctor would never do that, especially since antibiotics are specific to what ever you are ill with. Just curious!

I've just completed chemo treatments. We sail on November 25 on the POA. Yes, my oncologist prescribed a general antibiotic for "just in case". I feel more secure having it.

  4. Hi Debbie,

I'm 38 and my hubby and I are pretty active, not in great shape but active :)

We arrived a day early in Honolulu and hiked Diamond Head, awesome!! And took a segway tour of Waiki Beach, soon cool and so much fun.

We booked our excursions ahead of time on NCL, but if you don't mind a little heard work try booking them directly and take an Uber...its so much cheaper.

Maui- we did a downhill bike tour of Halekelea Volcano...it was amazing and so much fun. You don't even pedal and u end up going about 20mph!

Maui Day 2- we did snorkel and turtle adventure of Molokini Crater...another amazing day

Hilo- Zipline Through Paradise- this was incredible and our guides were amazing! Hubby and I we able to zipline through 8 courses next to each. Worth every penny.

Kona- only tender port, but the first port where you walk off to shopping centers and a really nice small beach with water sports to rent. This is where we did the "Hop on Hop off" Google it in Kona Hawaii. That was a perfect way to explore Kona and took you to some great places. Wear water shoes to the snorkel beach they take you too.

Kauai- Rent a car and rent it ahead of time. They pick you up at the port and the whole thing costs like $45 for the entire day to have your own car to explore. You can park it at the port for $20 and take it on day 2. Then you can go wherever you want.

Day 1 Kauai- we did the mud bug tour to the waterfall. This was AMAZING ANF by far our favorite. You get covered in mud but they do give you clothes of theirs to wear. I recommend water shoes. We booked this directly and for 2 of us it was $330 and we drove our $45 rental car when if we booked through NCL they provide the transportation there and it costs about $600-$700. You do the math :)

If you want anymore info on anything we did please let me know I am happy to share.

Also if you download the Uber app this will be a true money saver. It costs $60 to transfer from the Honolulu airport with a service with terrible a.c. and uncomfortable seats. The Uber ride was $10! And the cars are like brand new and the drivers were awesome! Less than half the price of a taxi.

Thank you so much for the information. It's been very helpful! What rental agency did you use in Kahului? I called Enterprise but we would have to walk to their office to get the car...about a ten minuet walk! If we can have one delivered to the port that would be much better!.

  5. Just got off the Splendor Sunday and there is a small sign that says adults only. With the exception of one child in diapers (which someone pointed out and they were asked to keep the child out of the pool and hot tub) I didn't see many kids.

Can you please tell me what movies were showing on the outside screen? Also, any comments or thoughts on your cruise? We board in 11 days!

  6. I have an April 23 sailing on Carnival Splendor and can not locate where to register for a check-in time. I have done this before on previous cruises (even on the Splendor) with no problem. I called Carnival, and they said that picking a check-in time is not available until app. three months before the sailing.

Has any one else had this problem. I do not buy it because I have already chosen a time for a cruise in December.

  7. Hello Cruisers,

I leave on my cruise on January 29th. I am trying to decide on the amount of clothing I need to pack for DH and me. I called Carnival and asked about laundry services. I was told that they do have a laundry room that I could use. I don't want to have to wash clothes while on vacation! Have any of you used the laundry services on the ship? How does it work? Thanks for the info.

  8. My husband and I are booked on Splendor for a December cruise to the Caribbean. This will be our first time on Carnival. I would be interested in seeing a copy of Fun Times if anyone has a copy they can scan and upload. Thank you in advance!

  9. This may sound snippy, but ask for what you want. The main thing that they will do is help you with the red tape while you are on the ship. You want a reservation -- ask. You want special theater seats - ask. I suspect that you get the point.

The stuff they bring you at the beginning of the cruise is the least important part of what they do, the service you get during the cruise is what matters.

Do these requests occur BEFORE the cruise, or after we board? I'm a first time cruiser, so am learning..
