  1. We did cruise last year, same week. To my memory, there were not extra blankets in our cabin. But we did bring an electric throw and it was amazing to sit on our balcony with the throw plugged in. Worth shlepping it around. I was freezing the whole time.

    Question re: Pearl in Alaska

My wife wants to bring a throw to keep her warm while on the balcony during Glacier Bay. Are there extra blankets in the cabin? Also, she mentioned bringing an electric throw, but I think I convinced her to leave that home. Thanks!

PS - we are on the May 28th cruise

  2. I just sailed on the Pearl last month. I am 5'7" and a US size 16, so...plus sized. (But as we know, "plus size" spans a wide range).

My husband and I had a balcony cabin, so I'm not sure if the bathrooms are the same size. I found the shower to be tight, but not unbearable. The toilet stall was far more uncomfortable - I don't think we ever closed the partition to the toilet area. Sitting straight on, my knees almost touched the wall. So, did my husband's knees, and he's not plus sized. He's only 5'10" and we both had the same problem.

I showered in the gym/spa a few times, and it was much nicer! If you can spring for a spa pass, it will be worth it, especially with 3 of you to a room.

  3. We were on the Pearl to Alaska last month, and we honestly didn't have a bad meal.

    Favorites:

Escargot & Fruits de mer - Le Bistro

bruschetta, fried calamari, vegetable lasagna - La Cucina

crab salad appetizer, Lobster, mac & cheese, Tomahawk steak - Cagney's

On the buffet, we loved the Indian selections, and for breakfast, I still crave the little hashbrowns.

And my fave cocktail: the lavender martini

  4. As many others have said, this is all very subjective.

My husband & I just got back from a 7 day Alaska on the Pearl, and we found the food, overall, to be excellent.

We dined at La Cucina, Le Bistro, Teppanyaki, and Cagney's.

Le Cucina was very good - pasta was prepared al dente, produce was very fresh, salads were well dressed, and we loved dessert!

Le Bistro was our favorite. We don't eat a lot of french cuisine at home, bc it's so rich, but it was my birthday so the calories don't count. That's how that works, right? We enjoyed the onion soup, escargot, fruits de mer (seafood in puff pastry) and lobster tail. They are featuring Veuve Cliquot right now, so we had a few glasses of that too.

Cagney's was my husbands favorite. He had the Tamahawk steak and I had the lobster tail. We loved the mac and cheese, truffled fries, and asparagus.

Teppanyaki is the most fun, for sure. The chefs are all entertaining and very skilled. The food isn't amazing - it's pretty basic habachi. I like the fried rice most of all. Skip the desserts, they are nothing special.

Overall, I would say that the food on the Pearl is fantastic. I don't think you can go wrong with any of it.
