  1. Funny you should ask, since I had this discussion with my PCC about an hour ago. The answer is "no" -- not all queen beds on NCL convert to two single beds.

However, looking at the description of the balcony rooms for Spirit, the description for each room says "With room for up to three guests, Norwegian Spirit staterooms have two lower beds that convert into a queen-size bed and a pull out sofa to accommodate one more."

You can check it out here:

ETA: Given that the description of all balcony rooms suggests they convert, it is weird that a few of those Balcony staterooms specifically note "Queen Bed." I wonder if they don't have a sofa bed? Probably worth calling the upsell line back to see if you can get one of the Balconies that doesn't have that diamond.

(And for those who are wondering, I was asking about whether the queen bed in the master bedroom of the 2 bedroom non-Haven suites convert to 2 lower beds. The answer to that was "no.")

I took your advice and called the Upsell Department back and I am glad I did. The rep couldn't see the diamond on her screen and then looked into it further somewhere else and saw the diamond. She was still pretty confident that the bed would be able to split but she offered me a different room without the diamond a few doors down anyway.

    Thanks for your help!

  2. Help - Do All Queen Beds Become 2 Singles?

I posted this on the Norwegian board - but I thought someone on this thread might have stayed in the cabin before so I decided to post here as well.

I just got an upsell from an Oceanview to a Balcony for our Mediterranean cruise on the Spirit that leaves this Sunday. The NCL rep that was helping me said the bed can become 2 singles but when I look at the deck plans online our room has a diamond shape next to it that says "Queen bed" and in the pictures it looks like one full queen bed. I am travelling with my daughter and we really would prefer our own singles.

Does anyone know if all queen beds can become two singles? If I have to phone NCL back to ask this question, do I phone the regular number or do I call the upsell number back?

Thank you in advance for any help. We are new to NCL so I do not know much about their boats and cabins.

  4. So you're taking a cruiseline transfer from the airport to the pier, right?

Even if you do need to claim your bags before boarding, you have plenty of time to get to St Marks and back.

It's only a 20 minute bus ride from Marco Polo to the pier. Even with collecting luggage, immigration, waiting for the other bus pax, you would be out of the airport by 9:30, 10am at the latest. Off the bus by 10:30, walk to the People Mover, for a 3 minute ride to Piazzale Roma, then walk 2 blocks to the Grand Canal for the vaporetto. The #1 leaves frequently and takes about 45 minutes.

If you do need to claim your luggage, just allow for an hour for the return trip.

I have never been to Venice before (or anywhere in Europe). Will it be fairly easy to know when we should get off the #1 vaporetto from Pizzale Roma to San Marco if we aren't familiar with the area? I have looked at a map but find it a little overwhelming.

  5. I just called NCL and supposedly they only open up 30% of the restaurants capacity to book online. They told me I had to book it when I got on board. Only problem with that is we will be touring Venice for the day and won't be getting on board very early. Hopefully the reservations won't all be gone when we get on board or perhaps there will be a cancellation at some point. This was the one restaurant my daughter really wanted to go to.

  6. Hi, just off the Spirit and we too had the 5 day package. We used one of our nights for Teppanyaki. Based on the tickets I had to sign (which were zeroed out for each member of our party) we would have spent upwards of $30 for each of our other meals. We each ordered 1-2 appetizers (O.K. sometimes 3!), 1 entree and 1 dessert each night.

Frankly, I thought the specialties were just O.K. on this cruise (except for the travesty when Cagney's overcooked the 32 oz. porterhouse and made it inedible then undercooked the replacement to the point our carnivore son couldn't even eat it ) but the food in the MDR's was really, really good! Like surprisingly good.

Cardbucfan, were you able to make a reservation for the Teppanyaki before the cruise? If not, was it difficult for you to get a reservation on board?

Great to hear the MDR was really good as we are on the Sprit for 12 nights so we will have plenty of time to eat there.

Thank you everyone for your responses. Special thanks to BirdTravels for posting the menus. That was exactly what I was hoping to see!

  7. I will be on the Spirit in September and have received the 5 day SDP promotion. I was searching for the menus on this thread but have only found older ones without prices on them. It is my understanding that the specialty restaurants are all a la carte pricing now, except for Teppanyaki which is a set price.

What I am trying to figure out is if we should use one of our 5 SD credits for the Teppanyaki restaurant or just pay the set fee with our OBC and use all 5 for the a la carte restaurants - which I assume would be more expensive if we wanted to go to any of them more than the 5 days included in our dining package.

Perhaps a simpler way of putting it - is it safe to assume that the a la carte pricing would be more than the set price at Teppanyaki? If so, it makes sense to me to pay for Teppanyaki and only use the SDP for the a la cartes.

I am not sure how clear I was on this but I appreciate any advice you all might have! Thanks.

  8. Yes that's correct about 1 1/2 hours but totally stunning! What do you have planned for Kotor?

Tragic what's happening in Fort Mac! My heart goes out to all of the people affected. I will be in Calgary next week on business.

Very tragic what is happening in Fort Mac and far beyond now. I have heard the fire is now into Saskatchewan. The generosity of Canadian's is especially amazing during these types of challenging times. Have a great trip to Calgary!

  9. We will be arriving in Kotor on Wednesday Sept 21 at 8 am. I have read here on CC that we don't want to miss the sailing into Kotor. Can someone tell me what time we should be up on deck to watch the arrival into Kotor if we are scheduled to dock at 8 am? Thanks!
