I know it's been covered before but I just want to make sure I have it correct.
We have att and we are getting the ship wifi.
We should put our phone on airplane and just use the wifi during the cruise to avoid any extra expense.
If it's on wifi are text messages free?? I have an iPhone and read that if it's iPhone to iPhone with the messaging it uses wifi so it would be free???

I think if you buy 5 drinks a day it's worth it. Rough math.

It's fine. I just wanted to double check.

I'm doing that 4 day cruise in about a week. I have 2 questions since this is our first celebrity cruise.
1) what's the dress code? I've read about the chic night but am I ok with just wearing khaki shorts and t shirt to mdr??
2) what time do most people arrive to port??
Thanks

Yeah I'll let everyone know my honest impressions.
I do like the idea of "better service and better food". But that's going to be subjective. Also again I'm not bashing carnival. I do like carnival. When we started cruising my daughter was 6. Now she's 11. So she started to outgrow the water slides and all. Or at least think she's too cool for them. Haha.

Just booked Carnival Vista for May 2018. Approx 3,400.00 ( no drinks) 8 day Southern out of Miami. Note we usually get drink package 8 x 55 =440 per person
Total about 4,300.00
Celebrity is 3,900.00 ( drinks included) for a 10 day Southern from Miami.
You be the judge? Numbers show Carnival isn't the better deal.
That's my point if people shopped I think you would find carnival isn't the deal it used to be.
I'm not bashing carnival at all either. I like carnival. Im honestly not that picky and our next cruise probably won't be on celebrity unless she really likes it.
I'm just looking at their prices and I'm surprised I can find cheaper fares on other cruise lines.

Currently they are offering all of the following on suites: Premium Beverage Packages, Unlimited Internet Packages, Prepaid Tips, and $150 to spend on board. Perhaps that's what the OP was referring to. I don't know how much more you pay for a Celebrity suite compared to a Carnival suite though to get those things.
Lower Celebrity bookings get to pick one out of the Classic Beverage Package, High-Speed Internet, Prepaid Tips, or $150 to spend on board. But, or course, at at least a somewhat higher price point.
I'm surprised Princess hasn't had to offer similar perks, since they are more a direct competitor to Celebrity than Carnival.
If we wouldn't have gotten the package it would've been $379 for a veranda (balcony). The package upped it to about $200 more per person. But like I said we got a lot of that $200 back with that incentive program. Let alone what my wife and mine bar bill will be.
We ended up paying a little more too because my mother wanted to go and we requested veranda rooms next to each other. But overall not bad
I like the fact that essentially all I have to worry about is my gambling money.

Awesome good to hear. I saw it's right near the casino so I'll be right at home

Yes. Celebrity is in the Premium category, like Princess and HAL. By standard cruise line classifications, it is a step up from the contemporary lines like CCL, RCI and NCL.
Granted, I have only one CCL cruise under my belt but comparing that 1 cruise to the several Celebrity cruises I have taken, I can say this. I totally disagree with the earlier post that said Celebrity is crowded and the food is only fair....that is, when compared to CCL. Of the mass market lines I've sailed, I've found Celebrity's food to be the best.
Speaking toward what seems to be the true topic here...boozing it up...this incentive probably exists on Celebrity because in most cases, Celebrity is going to make a lot of money from it. Celebrity is far more refined than CCL and while I wouldn't say the crowd is knocking on Heaven's door, they do tend to be a little more on the mature side than CCL. Therefore, you see less boozers. On a short cruise though, you do still get more of a party crowd, and the martini bar will be packed in the evenings.
That's what the lady at celebrity said. I asked because I have an 11 year old child. I was nervous that it was going to be a retirement home at sea but she said it's a shorter cruise so probably more family and younger crowd.

So Celebrity is giving you the Premium drink package for free? How does one get these deals? My understanding it's 130 a day for a couple. I will switch from Carnival if i can get that deal.
It's not free. It was an extra $200 per person. 3 people we have cruising. So $600. 4 day cruise.
$300 obc, all tips paid for (worth $200??), all top shelf drinks and fee wifi.
By cruise standards I will easily drink $150 a day of alcohol on a 4 day cruise. If it was 7 days it might be a little more difficult. My wife likes more wines and exotic drinks so she could have 6 a day and it pays for itself.

You went there... LOL
I can only smile for the rest of the day now...
bon voyage and your next drink is on me during our cruise together...
Haha. I always go there. But I'll get the next one. I always buy the drink package.
I remember I was on carnival in the casino and the guy next to me was betting $500 a hand on blackjack. He was drunk having a good time and says hey can I use my card (since obviously he's getting free drinks) for the a drink for the entire table. They told him no. I'm like come on man!!!

Carnival doesn't have "that" because the 2 lines have different business models. It kind of like asking why doesn't Subway sell burgers like McDonalds? They're both restaurants but they're catering to 2 different markets.
I really want to try Celebrity and was looking into a 2018 Mediterranean cruise with them but my teens have zero interest in it. They only want Carnival or Disney for that cruise.

Yeah but my point is carnival caters towards party and drinkers. If you think about what celebrity is offering it's more towards drinkers.
Carnivals alcohol package is terrible in my opinion so that's why I started looking at other cruise lines.

Yeah I guess my point is if I booked a similar cruise I would've spent more on carnival than I would've on celebrity.
I guess we will see the difference in 2 weeks.

I'm usually on the carnival forums because I have a family and love to drink. However we are doing celebrity in 2 weeks.
These forums are all the same of people complaining. I'm sure the service and food on celebrity is top notch.
Some complaints probably are warranted but some people think they are cruising on their own yacht and not a ship with a few thousand other people.
Btw, these people cant afford their own yacht but in their mind they do.

We've done carnival for our last 5 cruises over the past 6 years. I wanted to switch it up a little and we got a great deal on a cruise next month.
What I was surprised about was the perks they offer. So for an extra $200 per person I was able to get free alcohol the entire cruise(top shelf liquor and Red Bull/Evian water), tips for the week included which includes drink tips and room, free wifi and $150 obc per person ($300) for the room.
I'm assuming that with celebrity ads/who they cater for the crowd might be a little more up tight and older but honestly I'm still going to have fun.
Any opinions on celebrity??

If you are paranoid then I am worse because I've checked 3x and have written confirmation from the travel lady we booked though celebrity

If you're 36 and still piling it away then fingers crossed, I hope you make 50.:)
As for the Celebrity taster, I suspect a short cruise isn't going to give you an accurate picture of the line. Thing is, there's likely to be a higher proportion of people drinking like they're at college or keeping up the Carnival routine. Even Cunard, where the age profile is seriously old, has a very different atmosphere on short cruises serving more bpeople who often bought it on offer from the advertising pages of the tabloids and are aboard with the sole intention of getting hammered.
Why not take a longer voyage? Spend more time on deck looking at the scenery than in the bar looking at the decor or in the casino looking at a wheel spinning round. Take as much time in port as available and soak up the experience. Who knows, you might like it.
One of the great things about getting older (that began well before I was 36) was that my body decided it was time to switch quantity of booze and food for quality. We can still spend big on board but now it will be premium wine that's worth savouring rather than swilling it down, also the bottle of port we buy on the first evening will last all week, sometimes longer.
Cripes. I sound like my dad.
.
I always said if I make it past 55 I'll be happy!!
Also I live a pretty healthy lifestyle outside of my vacations. I drink 1 day a week and workout pretty hard 5 days a week. Probably more than most 36 year old married guys with kids.
Getting off work for more than a week is tough to be honest. So a shorter cruise is fine. I just want to see what the service and rooms are like. I have no desire to go to any of these foreign countries in Europe to be honest.
Only place I want to go is to Germany to the BMW or Audi plant. Ill probably do that when I buy my next car.

So are you saying that if we have $300 obc then I can just say I want it to be used for table play? Then they will give me chips??

I am also on the same cruise. The only don't I can think of is.....don't take my seat at the Martini Bar.:
Enjoy your cruise..
Artie:
Haha. I won't take your seat at the martini bar but don't take my seat at the blackjack tables.
If I drink 1 martini they'll have to flag me.

Lady can't hold her liquor. That's a shame.
Look I'm 36 years old and my wife is 32. I still drink pretty hard like I'm in college.
I understand the average age on this ship might be 10-15 years older.
That's why we booked a shorter cruise. Get a taste of what celebrity has to offer. Compare it to carnival. I don't know maybe royal is going to be our speed.
I know when I'm 50 I probably won't be putting down 15 drinks a day, but who knows. Maybe I will. Haha

I just went on the website and it says classic package initially then if you click book it, it says premium in fine print, then lists the other perks if you do the go best.
Anyone booking better double check

I booked yesterday and contacted the person at celebrity I booked the cruise through. She said in writing that it's for the premium package. I drink Red Bull vitamin water like it's going out of style. The beer part id actually be good on.

I double checked and I have the premium. I have it I'm writing too.
I think it's a website error because I went back and selected best and on the next screen it did say premium

Did anyone ever confirm that go best was still all the top shelf stuff??
I have our receipt and I'm tempted to call to make sure. I see "go best" on the receipt but nothing to really indicate that it's the premium package.
I just want to confirm because the last thing I want to happen is go on the ship and I can't get my Red Bull and goose.
