  1. I'd seriously consider splurging on the airporter bus for $15/pp or $28/pp round trip. https://www.nycairporter.com/ourservices/lga-to-manhattan/ By the time you collect your luggage and get yourselves to the E train, it's likely to be at least 3 pm. That means when you get to Manhattan the trains could be crowded on a Friday afternoon. The airporter drops off on 42nd St between 8th & 9th, which is about 4 blocks from your hotel (about the same as the subway). You can board at any LGA terminal except terminal A. As someone said your luggage goes under the bus.

Oh, excellent. Thanks for the link!

  2. So, this is less a "how do I" question and more of an NYC public transport etiquette question...

My husband and I are flying into LGA on 5/26 (because we had no other choice of airports due to Reasons Out Of Our Control) and sailing out of MCT on 5/27, staying near Times Square overnight.

Because of all the traffic issues, we're planning on doing the Q70 -> E -> Times Square trip instead of getting a cab or an Uber. Seems like it's cheaper AND faster. My question is, how light do we need to pack to make this not miserable for ourselves and those around us?

We've done carry-on rollers and backpacks for our past two cruises, but we have free checked bags this go-round and were hoping to bring a single bigger bag instead this year, before we decided to go the public transport route. We don't want to be dicks, so what do you recommend?

  3. Sorry if this has been asked a million times already. The last time I was on NCL, we didn't have a package at all and drank tap water pretty much exclusively. Last year we were on Celebrity and I had the Premium NA package, which included all manners of sparkling water, and I. Got. Crunk. (as evidenced by my profile picture...)

From what I'm reading, I'm 99% sure that sparkling water falls under the "bottled water" heading for NCL, so it's not included in the UBP, but does anyone have pricing information for the various mineral/sparkling/fizzy waters?

  4. We're sailing on the Gem in May with another couple, one of whom has Celiacs. We were on Celebrity last year and their menus were lovely, with icons next to every dish, even in the buffets and cafes, indicating vegan, veg, dairy, gluten, and soy. It made her experience really great and relaxing. From what I'm reading on these boards, it doesn't seem as though NCL is the same. Do you have to coordinate everything in advance? She loved that she could decide what she wanted when she was hungry, and I'm a bit worried she'll have a stressful time this year.

  5. We have that cabin in October. I actually switched to it to be closer to friends. I am thinking the awnings won't bother me but was curious about your reaction.

    Connie

They didn't bother us, but I felt bad for the people in the suites. They had a tub on their balcony and we could see directly into it.

  6. We got the classic package included with our cruise when we booked. (Had no choice in the matter or we would have chosen a different option.). I don't drink, and I'm wondering if anyone has ever switched out an included package for a different one that costs less? In some ways I'd be losing some value, but I'd be gaining it in fancy waters and frozen drinks, lol.

  7. Does anyone know if the CC cabins (we're going to be in 7189) on the Summit have footstools? I know they don't have the lounge chairs but I jut really really really dislike plain chairs only on the balcony - I get uncomfortable if I can't put my feet up! :D

  8. Okay, so I'm weird about the ocean, and I don't like the idea of stepping on sharp rocks/jellyfish/those crazy flatfish. I want to get a pair of water shoes, just to have something on my feet while I'm in the water.

BUT most water shoes are either quite ugly ("standard" water shoes) or really heavy because they're not designed to be worn while swimming (ie Keens).

So anyone found some shoes that are good to be worn in the water, but still look reasonable with a swimsuit?

I've already got a strike against me being a fat girl in a bikini (my mother can shove it =P), so I'm trying not to look ABSOLUTELY ridiculous, lol. We'll be in Bermuda so I feel like I need to at least TRY to look like a normal human.

  9. Hi, our flight on 5/29 gets in at around 9am. Assuming no issues and we actually are there at 9, should we taxi straight to the terminal right then, or stall for an hour to arrive closer to 10:30? Don't know this area or port so I'm not sure if we can arrive early or not.

  10. You found Bermuda Hidden Gems listed as a Celebrity Shore Excursion? It is not a listed excursion on my Summit sailing. I have $350 of onboard credit so I was thinking about doing the Catamaran Snorkel the last day if I have credit left. I don't see Hidden Gems any date.

Oh, sorry, I was being confusing. I think we separately decided we're going to do the Bermuda Hidden Gems tour, so for ANOTHER excursion on another day, we'll likely pick the Celebrity-offered Catamaran excursion.

  11. I have not done any of the three but going by the descriptions alone I would gravitate to Catamaran Coral Reef snorkel. That is only because I have not found shipwreck snorkels to be to my taste and beach snorkels tend toward average. The very best snorkeling excursions I have done have been going out on a boat to a coral reef. However given the concerns you related in your opening post the Devil Island beach snorkel might be your best choice.

I think we are going to do the Bermuda Hidden Gems tour, which has a beach snorkeling component (if I'm reading the description correctly). Since we're doing that the first day, I think we might do the Catamaran snorkel on the second or third day assuming we enjoy it the first day. That way I've had a chance to try it, see how it feels, and be okay with trying it at a reef. Plus for some reason the idea of snorkeling around a boat seems less stressful to me than a beach...maybe because the boat will notice if I disappear? Hahaha.

  12. Our guarantee cabins have been assigned and we got these three, all next to each other, which is random as all three bookings were made at different times, by different couples, haha.

I've heard these are the cabins that look directly down at the suite awnings, which means I won't be able to do my favorite thing where I lean on the railing and get hypnotized by the water below.

Anyone have any experience with these cabins, or pictures? I'm trying to decide if it's worth trying to move (it doesn't seem like there's much available in the C3) or upgrade (it would actually be cheaper to upgrade to AQ than a C2 or C1 iirc). Sailing is May 29th 2016 if anyone cares.

  13. So, I really really really want to go snorkeling while we're in Bermuda at the beginning of June. I have the gear from when I took a scuba class in college (as my required gym course!) but have never used it beyond a pool because I live in Ohio and never traveled. Since that time as well, I developed a lot of severe anxiety, which is mostly treated, so I'm finally feeling confident enough to try something new.

I'm not really really comfortable in the water, worrying about what I'm going to step on or getting bitten or being pulled away in a riptide or whatever, which is part of why I'm wanting to go snorkeling - because it's floating and I can see all the things that might be coming at me lol. But in thinking about the whole process, I've realized: I am terrified of floating out to sea!

The last time I was in the ocean was in Honduras, in a little bay off a private island on a cruise excursion, and there were no waves at ALL, plus a net at the back part of the area, so I didn't even think of floating away. But obviously that won't be the case in Bermuda. And I float easily and can get hyperfocused on looking at things, and could see myself not remembering to look up for ages, only to find myself out in the middle of the ocean, or getting caught in a riptide and pulled out to sea, etc.

I logically know this is ridiculous, but anxiety knows no logic.

Those of you who have snorkeled, or even swam at Bermuda's beaches, or you know, those of you who are sane: can you reassure me here, or offer tips, or basically just remind me that I'm crazy and there's no way I'll float away never to be seen again?

  14. This is a really good question. I'm sailing on Constellation next Sunday, and there are currently 36 balcony cabins still available. Interiors and outsides are all sold out, and was wondering if those people will get a call for a paid upgrade, and if left unsold, do they just leave those open?

That's where my question was going. Less "will I personally get an upgrade" and more "which cabins do the line prefer to sit empty"? I assume balconies might be more work than insides, just because they're bigger, but then perhaps they have potential for bigger tips?

  15. I thought I read an email from Celebrity that they were no longer going to drastically reduce the price of their cruises after final payment but just happened on a cruise on which I am sailing....but you know, I don't think it came with any of the free perks that we are receiving so maybe not such a drastic slash after all.

In Sept, I was able to upgrade my inside cabin to a concierge level for only $100 pp -- so it looks like they do slash the prices but only offer guaranteed cabins. We were lucky, we ended up in the most amazing room but it wasn't automatic.

So, I would say they slash their prices and offer no perks and what doesn't sell, they send out emails for upsells or maybe even upgrades, but I haven't seen one. As others have said, I would hope they start with the Zenith members that are sailing and work down the list to elite + and then elite, but I, too, think they might just pass them out on a random basis.

A friend of mine just upgraded her veranda gty to a concierge gty for $20 because of the price slash, no perks lost. We already has concierge gty so we got a $200 refund, which is insane to us.
