There is a Ports forum here where you will find lots of info about what to do in any port and excursions available. Then just using a search engine for any port will also produce lots of info.
Whatever you decide to do, enjoy it, it's a brilliant way to see places and you only have to unpack once.
Hi Turbofun, Thank you for your reply. I have looked endlessly on here and other websites, so much so that my head is buzzing
Just thought someone who had been to any of the POC would be able to give some recommendations of places to visit or not as the case may be.
Im sure we will have a fab time. Thanks again.

Being your first cruise . I would recommend using excursions from the cruise line. Especially if your first time in Europe.
Hi Kamloops50, This will be our first cruise but not our first time in europe. We dont mind venturing out on our own.

The queues for the Coliseum are huge. When we did Rome we went on a Thomson excursion and bypassed all the queues.
Hi Rookery, we are thinking of doing the 'Rome on our own' Thomson excursion. Been looking online and found that we can book tickets for the Colosseum in advance. Not sure if this will avoid the queues though.

Hi all,
We will be taking our first cruise in May. Ports of call are Palma, Olbia, Sorrento, Rome, Ajaccio and Palamos.
Any ideas/tips on excursions and things to do in port would be much appreciated.
Many Thanks
Sam:)

I just hope they don't choose a name that is hard to live up too, i.e. the Dream which was then called the nightmare  :DI can't wait to go on my first ever cruise. Sounds like I'm in for a treat;)

Spirit and Majesty my favourites. Dump the Dream :D:D
Not until I've been on her...........Please

Hi,
Thank you all for your replies. I definitely think the best way for us is cash but i really don't think we will spend a great deal on board to be honest.

We always register a debit card (we don't do credit cards either) and have never had any problems. Why do you think they would take extra money?
Hi Linda, I read on another forum, not sure if im allowed to mention the name, so wont !! Someone was saying they had registered their debit card and the cruise line, Thomsons had been taking daily payments from that account even though they hadn't spent nowhere near the amount they were taking. Hope this makes sense.
-
yep they will accept a cash deposit, i think the minimum is £200 (that may depend on ship?)
Hi geomagot, thank you for your response. Its the thomson dream, dont know if that makes a difference.

Hi all,
Hoping someone will be able to help.
We are going on our first cruise in May and have read somewhere that we will be asked to register a debit or credit card upon boarding.
We dont have a credit card or rather choose not to have one and i am wary about using my debit card as dont want amounts being taken out or put on hold. Not entirely sure if they do this, but would worry that they are taking money i cant really afford:eek:
So was wondering if they would accept a cash deposit instead.
Many thanks in advance.

Feathers? Ruffled? Definitely not me - more likely to have a smile. ;):)
But I was just concerned that a first time cruiser and new poster seemed worried about recent reviews relating to an issue which is already resolved eg the refurbishment work recently on Dream. That was a passing issue (not minimising it's impact on passengers though) and it's not a problem now so it would be a shame if she was unnecessarily concerwned and it spoilt her anticipation of her first ever cruise.
We regulars are all well versed in the Thomson product and the forum and from experience know what's an issue for us personally, what might be an on-going problem and what could just as easily be better or worse three months down the line. But that might not be so obvious to new cruisers. I was simply trying to put her mind at rest by pointing out the differences.
Well said kruzseeka

Thank you so much for all the responses. What a great site. Some fantastic information.
Really looking forward to our 1st cruise and I'm sure I'll be back again with more questions soon.

Hi all, we have booked to go on Thomson dream and really wishing I had read the reviews first!! This will be our first cruise and hoping it's not as bad as the reviews make out.
