  1. As you can see, I've only been on Norwegian, but I can also recommend them as my first cruise sticks in my mind. They did a lot to make us comfortable when we went. I love the lack of dinnertime with them, and I have found the quality of food to be excellent. Wherever you go, good luck, and I think you'll really enjoy it. Right now I couldn't see me NOT taking a cruise every year.

  2. I'll be checking the place out in about two weeks! I have two questions:

    1) Is there free Wi-Fi anywhere on the island? I'm guessing no because it is private and there's no independent businesses, but I figured it is worth asking.

    2) I understand they have a buffet for lunch; I'm assuming it is very similar to the fare on the ship and not really anything unique or native?

    3) Again, given the nature of the island are there any businesses there like a CVS, or is it pretty much the same $$/selection as the boat?

    Thank you!

  3. Big Daddy's Museum is in Ocala and that's about 120 miles from Canaveral so you are looking at a total of 4 hours there and back, IMO not enough time. But it is a great take.

I suggest you plan a separate Mid-March trip Florida trip hit the Gator Nationals in Gainesville and spend a day at museum :D

Jimsig, great idea! However, I've already got my plane tix to Indianapolis (no cruise ships there, lol) for Labor Day weekend, plus doing the events in NJ and NH, so already doing 3 national events this year, plus maybe Reading. One year I will; I went to Hawleys school some time ago and made my first passes at Gainesville!

  4. I believe the Breakaway stops at Port Canaveral. It has to be a long stop given that you can go to the theme parks. I would like to go to Fantasy of Flight, Kermit Weeks' amazing air museum in Kissimmee. I think I would have enough time to get there and back; my question is would that be a taxi ride, and if so roughly how much would the taxi fare be each way? I wouldn't mind the Garlits museum either but I think that's a little too far away. Any feedback would be welcome.

  5. Our last stop is 7-1 in St Thomas. I've been told how gorgeous Megan's Bay is....but don't want to pay NCL's price to get there. But worried about getting a cab over/back in such a short time. Or, for just a few hours, is there something else I should do in or close to port? Any thoughts about getting the most bang for the buck?

  6. I have an all day port layover coming with NCL, and I'm going to go along with everyone and go to the baths. NCL offers two tours; one by sea (you have to swim 50/100 yds to shore) and one by land where you walk down. Any pros/cons from folks who have been there?

  7. I'm going on my 2nd cruise shortly on the Norwegian Gem. I'm going solo, and our ports are: Tortola, San Juan, Phillipsburg/St Martin and St Thomas. I've browsed the shore activities offered by NCL and nothing really piqued my interest.

Also, on my first cruise, in retrospect I wish we'd done some ports 'freestyle'. In Grand Cayman we found this awesome tiki bar 2 blocks from the dock with great food and drink; that would have been a good day for me!

So I have a few questions for all you experienced people: First, which of these ports is the best for plain old exploring? Second, my perception is that they're all fairly safe (unlike Ocho Rios which creeped me out); I'm a 6'4" guy so I'm usually okay on those matters, but is my perception correct? Last, has anyone done any tours/activities either via the cruise line or not that were unique or fun? Thank you all very much for the feedback; the info from this forum really made our first cruise experience better.

  9. Hi. Our ship pulls into port at 8AM on Sunday on our last day. A few questions:

    1) Some friends are picking us up at the ship. What time should I have them arrive so they don't stand around all day?

    2) Going along with that, what time must we be off the boat?

    3) Can I assume I'll be able to have a going-away breakfast before I'm on dry land?

Thanks to everyone that's been answering my questions.....I look forward to when I'll be able to answer for other. Only 11 days to go....I can't wait!

  10. We are about to book on the Norwegian Epic, with premium beverage package. It has a limit of $10/drink. I don't know how the drinks are priced on the ship compared to 'real life'. I drink vodka, my girl drinks pinot grigio, so I'm talking normal drinks, not top shelf stuff. I'm thinking well vodka and cheap pinot should be under $10, but I don't know....can anyone tell me if we're really going to drink for free? Thanks!
