  1. I understand the food is not free at Margaritville, but can you use the drink package and just have a drink at the bar?

Can anyone recommend a shuttle from Miami port to Miami airport after the cruise. I saw that you can book a transfer on board with NCL but it tells me that the flight must be after noon, our flight is at 11.30.

Just came off the Oct. 16 sailing of Getaway. If you have the "drink package" you will NOT be charged for a drink at Margaritaville. We had lunch and only paid for the food. Be sure to check the operating hours. We went up there twice (deck 16) and it was closed.

Use Urber to get to MIA. So much cheaper than a shuttle or cab.

  2. We are renting a car pre-cruise and I want to use the car on the day of departure to go to terminal 2 and drop our luggage and my wife. Then I plan to take the car back to Enterprise (on 26th and Federal) and walk back to the terminal via 24th street. Google maps says it's less than 2 miles. We have already once walked into Port Everglades from 17th street, but I don't know if you can walk in on 24th street? Can anybody tell me if that is possible?

    Thanks

I think it’s a very bad idea to walk and here’s why. First, you’ll need to carry your ID along with your cruise documents, otherwise you will not get through security. Don’t fool yourself, it can be both hot and humid in South Florida during the winter. Our AC is on during the winter for a reason. Walking to the Port from the 17th St. entrance is completely different from State Road 84 entrance. This is where all the petroleum companies are located and you’ll be dodging gas tankers the whole way. Plus, there are very few sidewalk. The Port is not a walk-friendly area. You will be dirty and sweaty by the time you get to Terminal 2. That’s no way to start a fantastic cruise vacation. Enterprise is close to the airport and port, believe me there are plenty of Urber drivers in the area. If you waited 5 minutes for a driver, I’d be shocked. Please don’t walk.

  3. Hey guys,

I am new to cruise critic, but so far have read a lot of great information! This is my first time cruising out of Port Canaveral and had a hotel question. We are leaving on Oct 16th on the FOS. I fly in the day before, however because it is a red eye flight I will getting in around 7am on the 15th. Is there any hotels around the airport that do day rates? My friend doesn't get in until 5pm that night, so I am looking for a place to sleep off the flight, grab some lunch and wait for her to arrive to start our celebration. The hotel we have booked in Port Canaveral is sold out the night before, and so far the hotels I have called at the airport requires me to make a reservation for the night before, even though I cant check in until 7am. Any ideas? Thanks in advance! :):):):):)

I believe that the hotel at Orlando International offers day room rates. It's the Hyatt Regency Orlando International Airport.

  4. One of the things I've noticed, and Ft. Lauderdale residents can correct me if I'm wrong, is that the number of hotels in Ft. Lauderdale hasn't changed over the past few years, yet the number of cruisers has gone up - more ships and bigger ships.

Actually several new properties have opened up over the past few years. Unfortunately, they are mostly luxury properties. The problem is the closer you are to the port, the more you will pay for a room. Several new hotels have opened in the Dania Beach and Hollywood area, which is south of the port. There are also several hotels near I 95 and Sterling Road that include breakfast, have shuttles to the port and are near shopping and restaurants. Check sunny.org, that's the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention and Visitor's Bureau website. They are a great source for hotels at different price points. Good luck.
