As far as on Oasis, Johnny Rockets is on the boardwalk, which does have a small aft ocean view, but it's also open air, shaded, and quite nice. You are very much stuck on the promenade, but that's just one of many neighborhoods. Don't most/many people like to get outside? That's the beauty of boardwalk and central park. Even enclosed, it's outside, fresh air, etc. Then a HUGE upper deck with nothing but ocean views and activities, bars, food, pools, sports, games, etc. When going outside, I actually found Oasis to have a much better view and felt less enclosed than Carnival ships.

I like the fun comparisons/debate. I like both lines. So don't take my comments as aggressive. It's all preference, it's cool. I'd like to try out a Seabourn soon.

I can agree here. I see both sides of the argument. Having sailed on Liberty of the seas and carnival, the difference in the outward viewing was noticeable to us. Although we haven't tried an oasis class ship, we will eventually.

Really what it boils down to is preference. It really is almost two different types of cruisers.

  2. Someone asked the question why don't other cruise lines do what RCCL did with Oasis. My opinion is there isn't enough demand for cruising in a floating shopping mall. What I posted isn't a review of Oasis. If that is what you're looking for I'm sure there are plenty of them on the RCCL board.

I respectfully disagree with this statement. These ships(oasis class) sell and sell well. That is evident in the pricing structure of the cruise fare on all 3 ships. If these ships weren't selling out RCCL certainly wouldn't have been stupid enough to build and order 5 of them...

  3. I don't know what the stops will be out of Galveston on Vision, but the ship is wonderful. Easy to get around on. You don't really know you are on a "smaller" ship. My daughter and I sailed on the Vision in 2014 and loved her. I would go on her again in a heartbeat.

The itinerary I'm looking at is a 5 day only going to Cozumel.

  4. Hello all! I tried to do a search and didn't come up with anything in the forum here. I live in the Houston area and am aware that Vision of the Seas will be here for a few short months.

I usually have limited vacation and am already booked for another cruise on a different line here in a few weeks. Stars have appeared to have aligned for me to be able to take a second shorter cruise this year.

I have only been on one RCCL ship (Liberty) so I am wanting to gather everyone's option on Vision. The reviews on CCs website aren't very reassuring, however I'm usually a positive person and am willing to give it a try. Just a note traveling to another departure port is not possible at this point.

    What say you CC?

  5. They don't want to lose money. I bet you they wouldn't close down the casino for 4 weeks+ as they are doing with the slide. The casino is where the money is made. Slides are free.

This isn't entirely accurate. While revenue certainly is a concern, generally the time allowed in dry dock depends on scheduling with the dry dock itself. Work takes place at the Grand Bahama Shipyard where many cruise lines have their ships dry docked. They are limited in space, resources and manpower to complete the work.

  6. OK, you win, I surrender.

You knew what I meant if you know Houston at all!

I do, because I live here lol. Not trying to win anything at all. Just trying to make a distinction. That section of 610 is hell on any other day of the week. Compound that with an even such as this and it's going to be nuts.

  7. I-45 all the way into Houston will take you very near downtown onto the Pierce Elevated just West and South of downtown before it turns SE again toward Galveston.

If you are coming from the West or North then Loop 610 East is a non toll option.

If you have an EZ Tag or a TX Tag then I'd recommend taking the SRT around. Even if you go through one of the EZ Tag only toll booths without a toll tag they will send a bill to the registered owner of the vehicle and, as long as you pay the bill, no problem.

I'm going to correct what you said here.

If you are coming from the west on I10 DO NOT take 610 south. Either go north and loop all the way around back to south I45 or take beltway 8 south. Going south on 610 from I10 west will take you directly into the galleria area and by the stadium.

I45 takes you right through downtown and narrows down to a couple of lanes and no matter what time of day or event, it is always slow.

  8. Take the Sam Houston Tollway (Beltway 8) around Houston to I-45 South to Galveston.

Avoid downtown Houston and the South Loop 610 area near NRG stadium at all costs.

    Enjoy your cruise!

Note that there are portions of the Sam Houston toll way that are EZ tag ONLY. I agree with avoiding 610. I also suggest avoiding 288. If you stick to 45 you should be good.

  9. Hi Everyone,

When viewing our Cruise Details on Carnivals website, our FTTF has a time designated on it of 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm.

Is that the time we are allowed to board regardless of which check in time we select?

We are cruising out of Miami in May 2017.

    Thanks in advance.

The time slot shown is not a boarding time. It is a check in time. You can check in anytime you like with FTTF and will be called with one of the first groups to board when they start boarding.
