This thread is very useful. We are booked on QV from 14th July, we had booked an ocean view but after a short trip on QM2 last month in an obstructed view balcony, when we got home we upgraded to similar for the July cruise. At that stage we were told it would be a guaranteed cabin, so I have been checking regularly to see if it has been allocated. I’ll enter all our details this week although I have no idea if they have a system for allocating i.e. World Club status, order in which you booked etc.

On our QV roll call one person had allocation 6 weeks prior. One 10 days prior and I’ve just got mine 4 days before sailing! I don’t think there’s any pattern to it I’m afraid. It drove me mad checking daily 🙈

  2. Barcelona day tours offer half day shared tours of up to 12 people for €59pp

or they do a private tour for €350

Weve decided to totally DIY using taxis and pre booking online for Sagrada Familia and Parc Güell to skip the line.

Taxis seem to range from €15-€35 from point to point within the city.

also have a look at Toms port guides

  3. We have a corner aft, deck 10 on Indy later this year we booked it a year ago.

Family have decided to join us but having not cruised previously they decided to go for a guarantee inside option.

They booked two weeks ago. Our agent cross referenced the bookings and I added their booking to my online Royal account.

They got their allocation the other day and have an inside same deck and same side as us.

Dont know if it was luck or actually some foresight on Royals behalf but either way I’m absolutely made up that they are so close rather than deck 2 forward at the furthest point possible away from us.

    Thanks Royal 🙌

  4.

Thanks to this thread. I’ve booked all our dining 150+ days out.

I was also very relieved that I could add family from another booking to our table as I’d been worried if that would be impossible to do online 😀

How does it work once on board? Do you just give your name and party size at the door to the MDR?

  5. We much prefer Celebrity. We got off our first Celebrity cruise on Eclipse with an excitement to try Celebrity again.

We got off our first Cunard cruise on Qm2 totally disappointed and let down. The expectation was huge the reality was blah.

Id choose Celebrity over Cunard in a heart beat. I also factor in that Celebrity are far better with special dietary needs which is important to me.

We are trying Cunard again this year this time Q.V feeling a bit apprehensive but prepared to give Cunard one more go. It was the best date wise and price wise for the itinerary we want to do and we had a decent future cruise credit from Cunard for our complaint.

    We are early 40’s

  6. I’ve always been very specific about choosing my cabin and put a lot of research into it.

But we are sailing Q.V. to th Fjords next year and when booking the early saver fares were fantastic.

We’ve booked an obstructed view balcony cabin grade and saved over £400pp put that with the £100pp comp we had from Cunard from our QM2 last year, we’ve got a great deal.

I’ve checked every single possible cabin in the grade we’ve booked the guarantee and I’d be fine with any of them.

Heck I’m going to the Fjords and can sit on a balcony,

The only thing I don’t understand is; how does it work with your luggage and labels if you don’t get allocated until check in?

  7. Royal changed to all inclusive drinks today in the U.K for 2019 sailings. You get what offer is on at the time you book.

Have you gone back in and priced the cruise you have already booked?

We booked last month with no drinks included. Out of curiosity I priced the same cruise and cabin grade today. £2800+ Increase

If we all took out the applicable drinks packages to our party, the cost would not come to £1000

I’m glad we waited for a window with no drinks included.

  8. someone I met on my last cruise was in an inside on deck 3 and it turned out to be right under the piano in the Schooner bar. After 3 nights without sleep she was moved to a balcony stateroom on deck 6 only to find she couldn't make a lot of use of the balcony because of the foul smell that came from deck 4 most mornings

We’ve had a balcony on deck six and it was fine but maybe they were above the outside smoking area on deck 4.

Thankyou I think I’d rather risk the off chance of noise below from staff quarters. than risk the noise of bars etc above.

There’s only me that’s a light sleeper everyone else will be fine

  9. While I have never stayed on either of these decks on this particular ship class, I can tell you that the Promenade is on Deck 5, therefore there will be no issue on Deck 3. You do have the casino and several bars/ lounges above you, so that is something to consider. I wouldn’t worry about it too much, you’ll have a great time on Independence! The one Freedom class ship I have not yet been on but plan to in the next few years! Happy cruising!

Thankyou for your comment. I was referring to the outside prom on deck 4 not the Royal Promenade inside on deck 5.

I’ve sailed on Indy twice but looking forward to trying her for a third time

  10. hi there

We normally go balcony and mid but due to the make up of our party for our next cruise we are looking at more cost effective options.

Does anyone have any experience of noise from deck one coming through the deck 2 inside or outside cabins?

Also If you’ve stayed in a deck three inside or outside cabin was there any noise from folk walking/running the promenade above?

    Thank you xx

  11. Hi there is under ground parking within the hotel that’s right on the port and also in the city centre

I can’t remember the exact details as it’s a couple of years since I researched this but google will be your friend

  12. Monaco is very easy from Villefranche as is Canne. I can't help you with Cannes as I've not been but for either;

Get off at the tender dock, walk out of the building and turn right, walk along the sea front and the train station is at the end up some steps probably about 40 ish steps.

You can buy train tickets there for either destination. Remember to validate your ticket by putting it in the little yellow machine on the platform.

Monaco is very hilly and there are steps but there are also public lifts. From the train station the marina, casino etc is down hill one way and the palace is up hill the other way.

Google toms port guides he has a step by step plan for both resorts with pictures and maps.

If you go by public transport aim to be back two hours before all aboard time, take extra money for a taxi just in case.

People on our explorer cruise last year paid 75 euro each way for a taxi to Monaco. We paid 6 euro each return for the train.

We found it very easy and not at all stressful or worrying
