  1. What did they say/do when you brought up the issues? What did you say/do when day after day it wasn't resolved?

I didn’t say they were never resolved. Most issues were resolved while we were onboard, but every day we had a new issue to deal with. Not the relaxing, pampered vacation we paid for.

  2. Since there are so many responses to my OP telling me that NCL would ignore my letter, especially since I didn’t ask for compensation, thought I would let you know the conclusion. Got a response from NCL today. Not only did they address everything that I put in my letter to them, but they gave us a ridiculous (in a good way) credit towards a future cruise. Above and beyond anything I expected! SO and I were considering booking our next cruise on RCI and with one amazing customer service response, NCL has just procured lifetime customers.

  3. All of the issues you mentioned should have been addressed, immediately, while you were on the ship. Coming back and raising the complaints on CC won't get you anywhere,,,, and you lived for a week with a door that didn't open and a drain that didn't drain. Shore Ex, as long as you had yellow tickets, it didn't really matter if it showed up anywhere.

Of course all our issues were brought up on board! We were in the Haven and spoke to the Butler and Concierge about every single issue (except minor ones). Also spoke to Guest Services, Shore Excursions and left message for HD.

Also, no yellow tickets...that was the problem!

  4. So it has been a while since I have been on Cruise Critic. I actually forgot about it until I took my post cruise survey today and it asked if I am familiar with cruise critic! Quick and random question. I sent an email to NCL today because I wanted to let them know about several things that bothered us on our cruise. Our balcony door didn't open, the shower took almost all day to drain, our shore excursions disappeared (they did correct this but it was still annoying), we were given misinformation by Guest Services on board and also by NCL before the cruise, we dealt with a really mean woman at Guest Services too, and a bunch of other things...blah, blah, blah

Anyway, I sent an email to NCL expressing that I was not thrilled about my cruise and telling them why. I was wondering if they usually respond? I did not ask for any compensation and now my SO is annoyed that I didn't. I am hoping for at least an acknowledgement by them will make my SO happy but since I didn't ask for any response I don't know if I will get one. Has anyone else had an experience like this? I am afraid if they blow me off my SO won't go on NCL again and I may have messed up. Any suggestions if I don't hear back? I feel badly because it wouldn't be NCL's fault if I don't but my SO is really mad.

  5. A very un-educated comment. Apparently you know nothing of the laws against discrimination.

Poor people are not protected under discrimination laws. Perhaps they should be, but they are not.

Why would anyone want to pay more for a cruise on a mid-range cruise line? If you can afford more expensive cruises and don't like the lower class demographics on the mid-priced cruises, you should go on the high-priced lines and get off of RCI!

  6. As a parent, I would feel better about having my children in the suite with me rather than a balcony.

Understand your point because I used to be petrified of having the kids in a different room, but at this point, we have sailed several times with the kids. We always get adjoining balconies and leave the door b/t the rooms opened. There is a safety latch on the sliding doors that my younger ones can't get to.

  7. Unless, of course, your parents will also be in a suite.

Also, how important is some privacy for you and your wife with everyone all in one room or having connecting balcony rooms?

    Harriet

Thanks for responding so fast! Yes, my parents would be in a suite as well, so having to choose between them or the "suite life" would be a non-issue.

dh and I would actually have more privacy in the suite since it is a two-bedroom DOS so we would have our own master bedroom. In the balcony, one of our kids would be with us.

I know no one can decide how important the on-board kids' activities vs. the ports would be for my family specifically. I do appreciate your wording it so succinctly. You are right. It really all comes down to whether it is more important to have kids' activities vs. ports!

On that note....what ARE the kids' activities on the Star? I know it lacks the waterslides, but what does it have? Does it have anything?

  8. OPINIONS NEEDED: Should I book 2 balcony rooms on the Getaway or a Deluxe Owner's Suite on the Star? I will be traveling with my spouse and our children (kids' ages from 5 to 13). My parents will also be joining us, in their own stateroom.

The only NCL ship I have been on is Breakaway. I understand that Getaway is much larger than Star, but since I have never been on one of NCL's older and smaller ships, I am a little nervous about what to expect. I have been on other line's small ships and liked them, but I guess that really doesn't mean anything!

In terms of price, they are basically comparable except for what I write below:

If we do the Star we get the UBP, UDP, $300 credit and some free gratuities. For Getaway we will only get UDP. I like Star's itinerary better since I have been to most of Getaway's ports, but it looks like Getaway is much better for children. What would you do?

  9. Definitely not for kids, unless they are willing to eat wacky stuff. Pretty sure there is a kids menu, but you may still have to pay the specialty restaurant fee for them. Not 100% sure on that.

No kids' menu there. My husband ran up to Windjammers to get our son some food. If I recall correctly, they refunded us all but $8.00 of the fee we prepaid for our son, who did eat the dessert and tried a few dishes.
