Actually, I'm not concerned about the "port fee." After all, it's included in the agreed upon shore excursion charge and we prefer to be picked up at the ship. I'm only concerned about the risk of sharing passport information with an unknown foreign company.

Vietnam is great not just cuz of Obama, anyway, my family went on Mekong river cruise from Vietnam to Siem Reap ( i couldn't join) and they absolutely loved it, they've been on a 5 day cruise. Ask me if you need help regarding cruise etc ( i will ask my brother and share the details here)

Ive been to Vietnam on a cruise shop, but i personally didnt explore Nha Trang town, my friends went on a city tour ( booked a guide in advance) and they liked it so far, im not sure how far are the sites and not also sure if you can see them yourself, but i think you'd better have a guide.

Well, choose a cruise that let you explore cities such as Da Nang in Vietnam, then go to Hoi An and Hue plus a great option in Halong Bay ( northern Vietnam) we did this journey in 2015 and we loved it.

Well, i have been to Vietnam on a cruise ship visited Halong Bay for 3 day and then transfer to Hanoi and then visted Sapa. After that we flight to Luang Prabang and spent a great time in a quality resort visiting local tribes, elephant camps and so on. To be honest we didnt arrange all by ourselves, we just booked flight and we let the rest to a local agent in Vietnam (http://www.vietnameseprivatetours.com ), we highly recommend them on quality of the trip we received.

In Laos i recommend you to visit Luang Prabang, then go Luang Nam Tha 9 trekking, local life, scenic country side and welcoming local), about the accommodation i also felt they are a little bit different from what we got in Singapore or in Bangkok, they have lower standard in Laos.

This will be my first time to Vietnam. we will be in Azamara Cruise docking to Halong bay on May 2015. i have contacted a travel agent to organize an over night stay in traditional Junk style boat in the Halong bay.

My question is do i really need to take this junk boat? i simply want to experience something authentic and unique.

How if i cancel the junk and take a trip to Hanoi since we will have 2 days and 1 night free time.
