This port gave me cause for days and I struggled with how to handle. After reaching out to many operators opted to use Skyline for a truly memorable day. Yes, the tender and the cable car is not ideal but this was a stop I had been dreaming of! Up early and a tender ticket wait which was not awful, YES I got up early on vacation to be there long before our tour would start and I would do it again.

Tender in then a short wait for the cable car, it was less than organized and I could easily see tempers flaring on a busy day or when lines are long. Thankfully we made it up no issues before the cable car stopped running due to some electrical problems. As a person who shut theirs eyes going up and down I would not be able to handle getting stuck! I did see people walking up and we did consider in the afternoon as the line was long but it moved quickly and I was glad not to smell like donkey poo!

Vicky was a dream helper planning our day, quick to communicate and calming my nerves.

Demetri our guide meet us right on time to start the adventure.

Santorini is everything I thought it would be and more gorgeous!
We saw it all, red beach, black beach, lighthouse, beer brewing company, Megchorli (my favorite) and of course the spectacular Oia.

I loved it all and our tour was perfect!

If you are hesitating, concerned or still researching here is my advice….get up EARLY, get on the tender and up the cable car, we actually were at the top several hours early and shopped and had a pastry…and weren’t crazy that we were going to miss our tour.

Reach out to Skyline they will help you plan your perfect day!

Hello Toby, seems you had an enjoyable day. We wont be in Santorini till next Sept 30. Was this a private tour or can you share with other passengers on your cruise? There will be 3 ships in port hat day. Ours will be first  arriving at 7:00 AM. Thanks!

My group (4 adults) have decided they want to visit Sorrento and Ravello when we are in Naples in May.  We are in port from 6:30a-4:30p.  I have contacted several tour operators but most have set tours that include Positano, Amali, etc. and we don't want those stops.  Has anyone used a private car service they can recommend?  I have contacted Ravello Taxi and have been quoted 640 euros for our party which I thought was a bit high but maybe not.  Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

    Thank you kindly,

    Lisa

Lisa, if you are still looking for a driver from Naples to go to Sorrento and Ravello, I can recommend

Sorrento Coast Limo. www.sorrentocoastlimo.com. English speaking driver. Have used his services twice, both before Covid. He will plan your day to your requests. If you are interested in Pompeii, he can arrange a private guide.

There was a trip report in mid October where someone took a 'taxi boat' from OIA to the tender dock below Fira.   They kinda stumbled upon this service by accident.  It wasn't the same ferry that goes from the tender dock to Oia;  those boats are quite large, maybe 75-100 pax, cost 30E and include a bus ticket to Fira. This was a different operation.... hopefully an enterprising group who realized money could be made by providing the return trip, especially when people want to avoid the cable car wait to their tender.

The trip report stated that they took the cable car up to Fira, had lunch, then ubered to Oia.  After awhile they decided to take the staircase at Oia down to the water.  They saw a small boat with a TAXI sign and it was taking pax back to the tender dock below Fira!  The cost was 20E.  These boats were much smaller than the other company; only 15-20 pax.  And they took reservations.

Hopefully this will become a regular service!  It would be such a relief for cruiseship pax. But, like the other ferry boat, this boat doesn't appear to have a company name or phone number, so there's no way to know if it's running on any given day.  I guess if you took the ferry from Fira to Oia you'd see if the small boat was at the dock and could make arrangements for a return trip.  OR, you could walk down the staircase while you're in Oia and be prepared to walk back up if there's no service available.    Anyway, just thought I'd pass along what could be an interesting development.

Following, That would be an excellent alternative. Will be sailing Royal Caribbean and they are only offering one excursion from Santorini.

  4. Got off Seascape on Oct 1, 4 Aurea and 6 Fantastica bookings. We were able to change our dining. Our reservations were linked.  Originally, Fantastica was assigned to 5:00PM seating at Cala Jondal. We were able to secure a 7:30 seating at The Green Wave. Small split however, table for 8 and one for 2 closeby. Worked out great for us as some nights few had specialty dining. There was a counter at the beginning of the cruise where you could rebook the tables.

In theory yes, but it doesn't seem to be rigidly enforced.

Thanks @cruiseguyinorl, don't want to take any chances. More than likely, will update to premium. It's just not worthwhile like it was back before COVID when it included gelato, signature coffees and in-room mini bar. Sailing on Seascape soon

I am going on MSC Seaside on the 27th of April and my husband and I were thinking about dressing up for the White Party, the Pirate Party and the Gatsby Party. Do people dress up for these events.

We were on the the Seaside over the New Year's sailing.  Beautiful ship. Would sail on her again .It's your vacation and if hubby and you enjoy dressing up for the "theme nights" go for it. Other than the White night did not notice too many dressed up for the other nights. Listed in the daily programs. The entertainment staff were all dressed up though for the various ones - Gatsby, Country and Western, Pirate Parties. Consisted of dance sessions at 10:45 PM in Haven Lounge, Deck 7, aft. There was also a 70's Flower party one night in the Atrium. Happy cruising!

  7. The delivery charge, as well as items from the room service menu - except pizza - ARE included for Fantastica 'Experience' cabins (and categories above) with the Deluxe package. The question is whether the delivery charge is covered for Bella guests when they have the Deluxe package as Bella is the only category that is not covered for breakfast delivery.

    Thanks Bea!

  8. $364 for 2 for the week if done in advance. We did it for our sailing (tomorrow!); I'll report back

Yes that's what we paid for our Dec 29 sailing. Please report back. Specifically, with regards to room service - is delivery charge and items ordered off the room service menu included with the deluxe package if booked in Fantastica cabin?

Enjoy your sailing on MSC! Hope it lives up to expectations. Will be our first time on that line.

  9. Loved your very informative review. I am thinking of book an Ephesus tour, do you have any suggestions? We will be cruising on July 8, 2016.
