  1. Thanks, everybody, for your thoughts. I just wasn't sure the opened package thing I read was true. Not all "baby" snacks come in single serving packages, but we will see what we can figure out.

You might want to invest in some single serving sizes of your child's favorite snacks to be safe. Most grocery stores have such items. But does that mean you are arriving in Hawaii on the day of your cruise?

No, we're arriving the day before, but I have snacks for the ride home, too, since we will be departing immediately after disembarking.

    Aloha,

All good suggestions. Her are some additional thoughts with regard to Hawaii.

Fresh fruits and vegetables can not be brought onto the Hawaiian Islands. You will be asked to complete declarations that you attest that you do not have any of these things in you possession before you land. Flight attendants pass the landing cards out about midway in your flight and collect them before landing.

Please try and understand, Hawaii is out in the middle of the ocean. Pests from other areas of the world, yes even the U.S. Mainland, can prove dangerous to the delicate and unique ego systems.

Thanks. We had no intention to travel with anything fresh - that's asking for all sorts of problems. We'll eat fruit in our layovers at the airport.

  2. We're leaving at the end of the week for our cruise on Saturday, so the quicker I can get an answer, the better - Thanks!

I thought I had read somewhere that opened food cannot be brought onto the ship. We'll be traveling two 5 hour flights, so we have snacks for our 1 year old. Are we going to have to toss them before we board? It's the Pride of America, so we're not leaving the country, if that makes a difference. It'll be packaged foods like graham crackers, but it might be open.

  3. No prob! I was hoping to find others cruising with a little one! We've cruised a couple times before but never with our little guy. I think the flexibility cruising allows you will work out well - at least that's the hope :)

I saw the CARES harness but since we didn't get a seat on the plane for our son we won't need it. I love our ergo carrier and use that when we fly. Will you just have him sit on your lap for airport transfers and the few excursions that you booked? I'm pretty sure we are going to rent a car in Maui and Kauai' date=' the two over night ports, so we can rent a car seat then. Just FYI!

I've never cruised Hawaii but have done Caribbean and Europe so if you have any other general cruise questions, let me know![/quote']

He will sit on my lap during the transfers. We did decide to rent a car on Maui, so we'll just rent a car seat also. We have a carrier, but haven't used it much, so hopefully he'll be willing in areas where the stroller won't go. We're going to get some trials in before we leave. I used to carry him often in a Moby Wrap, which we both loved, but then he grew (why do they do that?!). It's supposed to support up to 35lbs, but he's so squirmy now. I digress...

I hope you enjoy your trip. I know I can't wait!

  4. Thank you for this great review. We will be making the trip later in the month with my parents and my sister's and brother's families with 4 children under age 6. I don't think we'll be doing as much because the children are so young, but it was helpful to know that there is "town life" in Kona and Nawiliwili. I know we will definitely want to get off of the ship then.

I also loved all the pictures you shared. I'm looking forward to seeing it in person. :)

I appreciated that you had positive things to say about the ship and staff. It's our first cruise, so I'm sure they will exceed our expectations.

  5. We're traveling from Ohio to Hawaii (6 hour difference) with our 12 month old. Does anyone have any tips for how to deal with the time difference? I'm guessing we should expect to be off for a few days, but hopefully the little one will be able to adjust, yes?

I think the time difference is my biggest concern.

  6. Thank you for starting this thread! We are also taking the 7 day Hawaiian cruise very soon with our 12 month old. I've never been on a cruise before and I'm not sure what to expect for us, let alone our son.

We aren't bringing the car seat. He's big enough to use one of the CARES harnesses on the flight. I was afraid our room would start to get too cramped with it. We're only planning 2 family excursions and the rest of the time I think we're going to lay low, so I don't think we'll need it.
