We've only cruised P&O once before and had a 3.30 embarkation time. We had to check out of our Southampton hotel at 11.30 so decided to go to the port and just wait - have a coffee and snack etc. We got there about 12 ish and were given a card with a letter on it. We were called at 12.50pm and was on the ship at 1.05pm. We didn't expect this, but didn't want to wander the shops in the rain, and were quite prepared for a long wait. I guess we were just lucky

I for one am pleased with the change of policy. Last year we did a 12 night cruise then stayed onboard for the following 3 nighter. The 12 nighter was wonderful, the three nighter was horrendous with drunk revellers at all times of the day and when women were throwing up (due to drink, not the weather) in the main dining room I vowed never to be on a 'booze cruise' again.

What a lovely review. I've got two cruises booked with P&O and agree with you about the miners and was beginning to wonder if we had chosen the right company. On Ventura on October and Arcadia next year to the Fjords.
Thank you for your overview and putting my mind at rest.

I've just chuckled reading the posts on this thread - I'm booked on Arcadia in August 2018 to the Fjords. It is a 12 night cruise but the itinerary states '16 ports'
With at least 2 sea days I'm looking forward to an 'extended' holiday!!

I find Princess are always trying to upsell all the time and a ship full of American humour can be draining to say the least. Also the costs of drinks and service charges are high, no taking any booze on board or tea / coffee in room

We are booked on this Arcadia cruise in August 18' and I can't wait - and can I just mention that I'm under 60 and so looking forward to going in a pool in August without being dive bombed or attacked by inflatables! Heaven!

I was the original poster way back in June last year! We went in November from FL to LA and it was the most amazing 15 night holiday I've ever had- to see so many amazing countries, experience so many wonders - a rain forest, a volcano, and of course the Panama Canal - was just incredible.
I loved the Coral Princess, not too big, but big enough to still get lost for the first few days. Had a problem with seasickness on one night but no big deal.
Met some wonderful people and will definitely cruise again. Really enjoyed meeting the people from our cc roll call - so much fun.
As far as formal nights- I never did get to the salon but we did dress to the nines and loved every bit of it. We now have some lovely memories and photos and will definitely dress up again next time.
Thanks to everyone who helped me along the way x

It's not about 'avoid tipping'. It's about what is different cultures, how different people see things and double tipping. As I said previously , I have prepaid gratuities
-
I said that I don't understand double tipping. Just don't understand why auto tipping isn't enough - surely if you've left the auto tip in place then you have tipped already??? I also don't understand the culture of tipping BEFORE the service gas taken place - it's the assumption that you will get good service so pay in advance.
I also disagree with a service charge on a bill in the UK. It's just a hidden tip that is compulsory and is wrong!
-
Here here kayelbee, well said
-
Being a Brit we are not as accustomed to tipping as you guys in the USA and although I understand your tipping culture I do not understand thus 'double tipping' that seems to be common place. If you leave the auto tip in place , why are you tipping again ?
I feel that I would be scorned upon, or worse, if I even suggested that I would take off the auto tip by people on here even though I disagree with being told that I must tip people that I don't feel have given me particularly great service. If I just tip those I want to, it gets put in the pool anyway so that doesn't work either.
In my opinion the whole system is flawed. Disgraceful that passengers feel they have to tip to give ship crew a decent living wage.
For the record, I have already prepaid gratuities for our upcoming trip so I know that the people that do work / assist me will get something but I will not double tip at the end .
I also expect that there will be people that will disagree with what I have said, but all of us have different cultures and it's what makes the world go round .

Emerald 734/736, I chose these cabins specifically because of that unique experience.
They are the last 2 cabins on the port side. 736 has an incredible view aft as well. ;)
Wow! That's brilliant, we're in Emerald 722 when we board in under 3 weeks, so just 6 cabins along the corridor!
Keith you've made my day!
-
Keith,
Brilliant pictures! What deck was your cabin? The picture of the Canal wall with the balcony chair etc is amazing, that's why I'd love to know what level it was on

Hi Colo,
Thanks so much for this commentary of your cruise - I am taking this cruise on November 7th. This will be our first ever cruise and we're so excited. It's great to know that the Coral is in good shape.
You mentioned at one point that you were Aft, Emerald Deck - is this where your cabin was? This is where we will be staying and wondered how this location was?
Thanks again, Ruth
-
Thank you for that, it just shows me how amazing the first canal really is - to be constructed a century ago without today's equipment and technology.

For fear of the backlash......... What's a Rum Runner? Never heard the expression before
-
I'm obviously in good company and doing the right thing IslandEmily! I'm so excited with 63 days to go!
-
Well this will be our first cruise! Booked a balcony cabin on Emerald Deck on Coral Princess - Full transit of Panama Canal in November to celebrate our 30th anniversary so the UBD would be lovely
-
I love the idea of doing the UBD! thank you for giving all that info, might just book that thanks to you!

Ha haha!!

It's like another language, I find it quite fun trying to work them all out - even though I do give up sometimes
-
Thank you, after reading these forums for months now I think I'm already an addict, watch this space .............

Yes, got it now, but I do have to stop and work out a lot of abbreviations used on here. I'm a newbie looking forward to my first ever cruise in 69 days. I usually work them out but the DH was beyond me.
I'm sure that by the time I'm on board I will be fluent in CC lingo!
-
Doh! Thank you, it's been driving me mad trying to work it out!
Help with choosing a cabin
in P&O Cruises ( UK )

We were on C deck midships last year - C436 - absolutely wonderful location - a few steps from stairs and lifts but never heard any noise. Perfectly situated so you didn't have that far to walk to both front and rear venues etc and the atrium was just a lift ride away. Enjoy your cruise!
