  1. Just back from Endicott arm TA still full of ice. Took small boat tour off of Carnival Legend today. Was totally awesome saw glacier calve ,black bear, humpback whale and great scenery . Don`t know how it could be any better. Also so close to waterfall that the spray was getting everyone on top damp . JUST BEAUTIFUL!

  2. I have been tracking Legend on AIS Vessel and it did not show it going down TA or Endicott ARM either . I was wondering if actually did not enter either fjord , If so why not and did they still do the small boat excursions. Will be on the Legend next week . Can't wait!!!:D

  3. I think the amount of ice floes in Tracy Arm changes daily. :) The cruise line that was going into TA the day before us was able to get in, but we ended up having to go into Endicott as there was too much ice in TA on our day. We also took the small boat tour and we got way closer to the glacier than did the ship. Endicott was beautiful and had lots of twists and turns and waterfalls. We say bears, otters, birds, eagles, etc. So even if you do not go down TA, you will have a great time.

Glad to hear you enjoyed Endicott so much. I am sure I will be amazed at all we'll see, I hope we get a chance to see a bear. Thanks for your insight.

  4. Just wondering if Tracy Arm is still filled with to much ice to allow cruise ships to enter. Supposed to be going into TA on Carnival Legend Aug. 4. Hoping to be able to do TA . Taking small boat excursion off of ship. Will be content with Endicott, but from what I have read here on cc the small boat excursion in TA seems to be better than EA.

  5. Has there been times in the years past that Tracy Arm was not visited by cruise ships at all ? Sailing on Carnival Legend on Aug. 2 with small boat excursion from cruise ship . Was hoping to get into Tracy Arm.

  6. Just off the Miracle yesterday. My power strip was taken by my cabin steward. I was confused by this as my power strip didn't have surge protection. I thought I was complying to their policy but when I asked the guest services I was told that mine didn't have a circuit breaker therefore not safe to use onboard. They let me borrow one of theirs so I took a picture of it and found it on Amazon. It isn't cheap but to follow their policy this is what is acceptable.

I researched Tripp Lite a little more after reading the above post from luv2cruise777 . They make all kinds of power strips, some with breakers some with surge protectors , in varying degrees of quality from home owner to medical grade. I would think that these would also be acceptable to use http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00006B83E or http://www.amazon.com/Tripp-Lite-Outlet-Industrial-6SPDX/dp/B000B61G7E at much lower price than the medical grade .

  7. This particular excursion is only available thru carnival, as for other ports I have booked thru outside vendors to save a little money and also to have a smaller group in the tours. IN Skagway we booked with CHILKOOT CHARTERS & TOURS and in Juneau with Harv and Marv's Outback Alaska just going to wing it in Ketchican . Know what you mean about $$ adding up fast . But the way we are looking at this is a once in lifetime trip for us so we are willing to spend a little more to see what we hope is some things we we will remember for the rest of our lives ,we'll just have to be tight with our money when we get home to make up for what we splurged on the trip:):(!!

  8. My DW and I are on carnival 2 weeks before you. I read thru alot of post here on CC and everyone who has went on this excursion gives rave reviews. So we are booked to go on it on our day in TRACY ARM. Everyone talked about how beautiful the fjord is from the small boat besides getting so much closer to the glacier which everyone almost always describe as breathtaking .I hope they are right. I also read about it on trip adviser, although some of those were the ones that were round trip out of Juneau. From what I have read it is some of the same boats that does the Legends Excursion so i would think their experience inside TA would be very similar .

  9. Seattle traffic is horrendous.

There are several ways to get to the airport from pier 91. Probably the easiest is Seattle Express .... they load up vans and send them to the airport, $15pp.

Or make a reservation with the flat rate taxi company, $35. http://www.flatrateforhire.com

It's about a 30 minute ride from the pier to SeaTac. Odd that the car would be cheaper at the airport. Check Renton too.... if it's significantly cheaper take flat rate from the pier to renton.

Thank you for the suggestions mapleleaves when I tried the above link it said the address for pier 91, 2001 W Garfield St, Seattle, WA could not be found I guess I will contact them by phone later

  10. if you use an airport shuttle provider, they're required to take you to the airport, where you'll then schlepp your luggage to the arrivals level and a bus will take you to the rental car facility.

Personally, I would grab an UberX (for two people) or an UberXL (for three or more with normal cruise luggage) and ask to go directly to the rental car facility. ProTip: send everyone but the renter directly to the Hertz garage floor - no sense walking the length of the facility twice.

Seattle rental car taxes can total 50% when rented from the airport. I would check all the options before committing. Sometimes downtown/neighborhood locations get cheaper within two weeks of pickup. I am especially fond of Sixt and their downtown location - they rent stuff I actually enjoy driving, not just stripped "transportation appliances" with 35k miles on them.

Thanks for the pionters Vibeguy I kind of figured the shuttles would be an extra hassle. As far as price I booked this with hertz almost 5 months ago I can cancell if i find something better but so far it is $400 total for VW jetta from Seatac for a week with return to SFO. Maybe because return is a different location that makes it cheaper at airport ??? Anyway everything I have checked (priceline, expedia, etc.) is approx. $100 higher . Even with Hertz for the exact same reservation is $35 higher. So I guess i'm just looking for the best option to get to seatac Iwill check out flatrate and also uber. I just have never used uber, I guess it is time I moved into the 21st century.:)

  11. IN town rates $150+ higher. Also thought maybe I might avoid some traffic of downtown. Don't know how traffic is in Seattle but just as soon avoid as much as possible. I'm a country bumpkin, I can drive in city traffic but just as soon avoid xtra stress of/from my co-pilot(DW) :). Also would shuttles drop us off at car rental or just at airport.

  12. My wife and i will be cruising to Alaska in AUG on Carnival. Upon our return we are renting a car to drive to California to visit relatives. My question is what would be our best transportation option from pier 91 [is this the right pier] to Hertz at seatac ? Also I have pickup time set for 10 am,is this doable or does it even matter if we don't get there till 12 ?
