  1. It seems from our roll call that there are a number of solos on the cruise. You might try offering on the roll call to organize some kind of solo event in order to meet other solos--I was on another transatlantic where the "organizer" had a signup sheet for solos to put down their names and cabin numbers at the Connections party, and then called folks to organize a few get togethers like a chat over coffee at Cafe al Bacio, a lunch in the MDR, etc.

That's a good idea, thank you! Sorry for not having answered earlier.

  2. Well, I wasn't planning to do any transatlantic cruises this year, but somehow I saw a deal I couldn't refuse and booked one yesterday! Celebrity Eclipse to Southampton from Miami, April 16th. Aqua Class!

    Me too, also Aqua Class!

  3. There is enough divisiveness in this world without adding any kind of segregation on a cruise ship dining room! Personally, I could care less what anyone eats so long as they do not force it down my throat. Being on a cruise ship is like a mini-United Nations. It's an outstanding opportunity to meet all kinds of people, from all cultures, backgrounds and religions, and to learn about each other in a very neutral environment.

And there is no where on a cruise booking that asks for ANY information about religious preferences. That would be religious discrimination, which is illegal in the U.S.

A Kosher option can be requested. People with special needs make specific requests all the time.

People can and do change tables for any number of reasons. One can never really know the reason. If you prefer not to have to deal with that aspect of the Main Dining Room, you can always request a table for 2.

I totally agree with KeywestK. In addition people should be aware of the fact that there is a most colorful community on a cruise, especially on big criuse ships. Everybody should simply respect each other. There is plenty of room for most everybodies needs, interests and preferences.

  4. The reason for extremely high 3rd/4th passenger fares is easy to explain. There are a finite number of seats in lifeboats. Every passenger must have a seat so there is an upper limit to the number of passengers. Simply put, not every cabin that can accommodate 3 or 4 passengers can be sold with 3 or 4 passengers without violating the requirement for a seat in a life boat. If there are too many passengers sailing as 3rd or 4th passengers, then other cabins must sail empty. The solution is to increase the 3rd/4th passenger rates to discourage additional bookings.

    That would make sense!

I like to have freshly squeezed o-juice, cappucino, espresso, specialty teas, bottled water, nice cocktails with or without alcohol, wine for dinner. So for me it's worth buying the UP, espcially as I' m taking the 8N TA without ports of call.

And I don't have to worry about the costs anymore and don' t have to sign each drink I order.

  6. I realize it will be impossible to know (outside of a RCI data center), but I'm curious if frequent cruisers on recent cruises have a sense of what % of people have drink packages? Especially the premium or ultimate?

Is it fairly rare? Or is it a significant percentage?

Take a WAG if you have experiences.

It may also be self-biased, I suspect people who enjoy more of the drink packages naturally see others who have the same and vice versa, so it might be interesting to know where you lie on the spectrum, too.

A (good) question. I am a beginning cruiser., just one completed cruise on Rhapsody Sin to Dub 2015. As you, I (and my companion) we wwere

Sorry, the self-"correction" made some mistakes:

"Spa-Treaments and Flowrider I was able to make reservations before day 90 before day 90 before sailing......"

  9. If you change crown and anchor status on ship do you receive the new benefits on that cruise or on your next cruise? Granted things like discounts would apply to new cruises but can you receive your next level pin, or other benefits? Just curious since I will be going up a level this cruise.

This is interesting to know for me as well, as I am in the same situation.

    Thanks for the answers

  10. Thank you all for being so frank and for sharing your thoughts and experiences. I am booked on my first solo cruise on Anthem's Maiden TA in October. It will certainly be a new experience, one way or the other. Will try to make the best of it.

    Yes, I'm very excited too.

  11. Hi everyone,

this is my first solo cruise. Will be sailing on Anthem, TA, Oct. 27th, 2015 and just

joined the Solo Single Cruisers Group. I live in Hamburg / Germany. Since three years I am a widow. Are there any other solo seniors, 55+?. Would be great to connect with others.

Love to hear from you and see you on Anthem.
