  1. Can anyone offer me more clarity than NCL's own website on their airport transports? I'm flying in and out of JFK for a cruise on Escape out of Manhattan. On debarkation day, I'm wondering if NCL's airport transfer is like RCL where I can put my bag out the final night of the cruise and I won't see it again until my plane lands in my home city. I read in a forum that was 4 years old where people still had to carry their bags onto a bus with NCL's transfer program -- Is that the case? I'm just weighing my options right now.

Also if anyone has transferred from Manhattan to JFK, I'd love to hear your experience. NCL's website doesn't even list JFK as an airport on the transfer list (only La Guardia), so I'm curious that it's even an option for me to buy.

Thanks for any advice!! 12th cruise but first time with NCL :)

  2. Hello cruisers! I have an odd question. For my birthday I received a Carnival gift card from a relative, and my husband and I planned to apply it toward our upcoming Vista cruise in April. However, we're considering canceling our cruise -- we just haven't fully decided yet. I'm just wondering if we apply the gift card toward our cruise balance now and then cancel the cruise later, do we get that money back as cash? Or does Carnival refund that portion as some sort of "future cruise credit"?

Either way, it's not like we'll never take another Carnival cruise again, but I'd hate to have to sit on that gift card for another year or two before it actually gets used when I could just have the cash lol.

  3. We did a Canada/NE cruise a couple of years ago and didn't go with Carnival because we wanted to stop at Bar Harbor. It was our favorite stop so I would suggest finding a cruise that stops there. :)

Interesting - thanks for the info! Can I ask why it was your favorite?

  4. Any reviews on Sunscape splash resort. They offer a day pass all inclusive. Looks like it is close to the port.

I've seen this Sunscape place mentioned on other boards too, but I can't find any info on the day passes! I am sailing on the Breeze in September and we are cruising to Montego Bay, so I'm interested to know... Subscribing in case anyone posts more info!

  5. I was just about to wave and shamelessly promote my blog cruisingisntjustforoldpeople.co.uk ;)

But then I realised I know you, hello Heather!!

Emma, I should've known you'd be here on Cruise Critic!!!!! You are my transatlantic cruising soulmate friend! Hahaha

  6. cruise addict yes , millennial in mind only. I can't understand why more people aren't addicted. The value compared to a hotel or resort and restaurants etc. what's not to love. So far, Carnival is our favorite we mostly enjoy the entertainment.

Right?? My husband and I thought about doing a weekend getaway recently but by the time we added up flights and hotel costs alone it was more than a cruise - and that's before food and entertainment costs! In the end we just decided to stay home (and save the money for our next cruise). Also, since when do hotels charge a fee to park in addition to your hotel stay??? It's such robbery!

  7. That pretty much describes me haha. My husband and I are 30. Started cruising in our mid twenties and got hooked instantly...specifically longer cruises as we have a big summer break. I am more of a cruise geek than my hubby but we often get disapproving comments and looks when we recommend or talk about it with our friends. Although I have convinced 3 sets families/friends to cruise!

Hubby calls me his little azipod because quite frankly its more 'us' than darling or babe. :D

We also love Carnival but they don't sail to lots of worldwide destinations that we want so starting to prefer Royal these days...want to try NCL also. You will love the Vista!

Same with us!! We took our first cruise when we were both 23, and now at 26 --and 7 cruises later-- we are just hooked! We even got married on a ship last year. :)

I know what you mean about Carnival. We live in Houston, and the Port of Galveston is only 1 hour away. Carnival has three ships there and Royal has one, so Carnival just has more options at our home port. But we recently decided for future cruises that we want to go to different countries and ports, so we know that will mean different cruise lines because as you said Carnival is pretty limited in their global itineraries! We would love to try NCL next too!

Very good to meet you :) I'm happy to hear that my husband and I aren't the only two cruise addicts our age! I know many people of our parents' generation who love cruising but just no one our age who loves it like we do. Happy sailings to you and your hubby!!!!

  8. Hello! My husband Michael and I are both 26 and love cruising. We love talking about anything regarding ships, watching YouTube ship tour videos, keeping up with the latest industry news, following dry dock schedules and what updates are happening -- you name it! Although we usually sail on Carnival, we are interested in every cruise line and ship and would sail on them all if we could.

But I think our friends and family think we're borderline crazy with how much we love cruising, and I know they get tired of hearing us talk about it every time we're around.

So my question is... Are there any other millennial cruise addicts out there? We'd love to connect with people who share our interest in cruising!!!

    Heather :ship:

  9. No more Canada/new England cruises out of NYC in 2018.

Maybe in 2019 they might have it again

also, this year is the Carnival Sunshine last year out of NYC too

Thanks for the info! Very interesting... That's too bad because I was really interested in this itinerary and the other cruise lines are so much more expensive. Oh well... fingers crossed for 2019!

  10. Just wondering if Carnival plans to sail to Canada/New England in 2018? Carnival Sunshine is sailing this route this fall out of New York, but I don't see any itineraries for next year. Perhaps Carnival doesn't post those itineraries this far in advance, or maybe I missed the memo that they won't be sailing there next year? I usually only look at Caribbean sailings so I am ignorant on this particular region.

  11. Like many others, I had a premium vista (aka aft wraparound) balcony on Carnival Freedom for my wedding cruise and we LOVED it. Biggest balconies on the ship I believe. To have basically 180 degree views from your cabin is the best part. We had an incredibly smooth cruise but I suppose in rough seas you might feel more being in the back of the ship.

However, I think on par with the aft wraparound balcony was our cove balcony on Carnival Magic. We really loved the privacy (nothing worse than when people peek around the dividers on the balconies... but they can't do that in the coves!), and we especially loved being so close to the water and hearing it. That's what cruising is all about for us -- the water! We also had one or two rainy days on that cruise, and the fact that the cove balconies are covered under the lifeboats meant we could sit out on our balcony during the rain and watch it hit the water. It was awesome!

Our least favorite cabin by far was a boardwalk balcony on Oasis of the Seas. You face directly into someone else's cabin, so it's a bit weird (esp when some couples don't quite close the curtains all the way, if you know what I mean...). The balconies themselves were tiny too. Plus you can't really just go out on your balcony in your robe. I guess you can, but I didn't feel comfortable enough to do so. Worst of all though was not having a view of the water. I'm on a ship! I wanna see the ocean! We knew what we were signing up for and we thought we'd try something different for a change. Well now we know... we wanna see the water!

  12. Email them again, and put urgent in the title.

Make sure when you email them you put the booking number, the sailing date, and what you need in there.

I have usually gotten a reply within 5 business days.

If you are just trying to make sure everyone is together, you can always call carnival and verify that everyones booking code is linked to yours. ( though this does not always work...)

Thanks! I will email them again with "URGENT" and see if that gets any response :)

I did try calling Carnival already, and they said they couldn't help me, which seems ridiculous... We are a group of 8. Six of us booked through one travel agent and the other 2 used someone else, and we all have late dining and want to sit together. Yet when I called Carnival they said they can't link our bookings to seat us together. Seems ridiculous to me. That's why I'm trying to email the maitre d'. I'd rather him/her take care of it and I'll just tip them once onboard!

  13. Hello!

I've been to Cozumel 5 times now. The last 3 times, my husband and I went to Mr Sanchos Beach Club. We LOVE it. We have an upcoming cruise in February on Carnival Valor and we stop in Cozumel again. We have from 9 am til 6 pm, so I think we could still do Mr Sanchos (since we are traveling with family who are new to cruising and we would like us to take them there), but I was thinking maybe we could leave in the early afternoon to do something else.

I've gotten really into tequila lately, especially añejo tequilas. I was hoping to do a tour of a tequila distillery or something, but I can only find 1 or 2 online, and both got so-so reviews. Mr Sanchos has its own tequila tasting, but it's another $50 each. That seems a bit high to me, but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong!

My question is if anyone knows of a decent tequila tour that we could do in the afternoon (meaning it doesn't take all day) and that's reasonably priced? Or, has anyone maybe been to a bar in downtown Cozumel that has a wide selection of añejos, etc.? I'm looking for any and all suggestions!

    Thanks :)

  14. Wouldn't they prorate/charge for days it is usuable even if prepurchased?

Don't think Carnival can charge you the day not used I.e. 1st day.

Correct, they do prorate it for Galveston cruises. For example, I'm cruising in February on a 4-day cruise, but I am only paying for 3 days of the drink package. I have to pay for all my drinks like normal (pay as I go) on Day 1, which really sucks. Damn Texas liquor laws.... UGH.

  15. Guys, I swear I don't work for RCCL. I am a Carnival girl.......

Just telling you the facts. I will see if I can find my paperwork.....

Not lying..... They were running a sale, but it wasn't that big of a sale.....

I think I left my binder in the cabin, but I KID YOU NOT.

    Maybe we just lucked out........

Hey, I believe you if you say so! I just don't know how you got that. Heck, let me know if you ever find out. Must've been some sort of deal!

  16. I am still just FLOORED at how much Carnival charges for their drink package.

We cruised on RCCL (Oasis) in June, 7 nights. DH and I, both got the Unlimited drink package for $375.00 TOTAL for the TWO of us. With ZERO restrictions.:eek: Just an FYI, we are Carnival cruisers. Just wanted to try out Oasis.

For our upcoming Magic cruise, they want $919 for the two of us.

This is an 8 night Eastern with 4 ports, so DH is hesitant to do it.

We USUALLY ring up about a $900.00 bar tab, so I think he's wrong.

So torn, but again, why is RCCL SO much lower? It baffles me..

Hmm... this is a good question. When I googled the RCCL Ultimate drink package price, this picture says it's $65 per person per day, which is significantly more than Carnival's $50 pp/d price. I know that RCCL doesn't require both people in a cabin to purchase the package, but you said you both did. I am confused here!

  17. can I order a Long Island Iced Tea or other "menu" item from Alchemy and get it with Cheers? or am I limited to drinks with just one type of alcohol and 1 shot in them? Thanks!

Any drink on a menu is absolutely included. What might not be included is like for example if you get a margarita at Blue Iguana but ask them to add a liquor such as Grand Marnier. This is because it's already a menu drink plus you're adding another liquor. I hope that makes sense.
