  1. Love your attitude (get their first). Ironically, DW ruined her knee (which was already in bad shape) walking downhill (very steep) in Funchal. I have since learned what many seniors discover, that going down hill can be more difficult then going uphill. And by the way, that Changing of the Guard is a little before noon and it will be crowded. You should plan on getting to that area by 11:30 (or earlier) if you want to find a spot with a good view.

    Hank

Thanks Hank for the heads-up on getting there early for the Changing of the Guard ceremony!

  2. We also enjoy Tom's Port guides (we actually were on a cruise with Tom a few years ago). He works hard on his guides (a labor of love) and tries to keep them up to date. I cannot recommend a specific bus stop in Monte Carlo since it simply depends where you want to go. Once you are in the city you can simply get off at any stop and start putting your legs/feet to good use. Most would probably use the stop near the Tourist Office off the Casino stop (which is also relatively close to the tourist office). Just keep in mind that the Palace is in a different part of town and involves a long uphill walk (if you walk). So if going to the Palace you might want to grab a local taxi or perhaps use one of the local buses (ask any local where to get a bus to the Palace).

Thank you so much for your response, Hank. It is our plan to visit the Palace and watch the changing of the guards at noon time. My husband is into Grand-Prix, so I am sure we will visit the Grand Prix route, particuarly where the famous "hair-pin" turn is located; as well as tour the Casino (after 2 PM) when interior access is avaiable. Contemplating currently whether we should utilize the "HOHO" bus to hit the various spots. As far as long uphill walk, I think I would the weakest link, should be no problem for my husband and the two twenty-something kids. I will suck it up and get there!

  3. It is actually the same train that goes to Cannes, except you just get it going in the other direction (towards Monte Carlo). We are talking about a single commuter train line that regularly runs trains in both directions. When looking towards land (with the sea at your back) the trains running from left to right are heading to Monte Carlo. If they are going in the direction from right to left...they are heading to Nice, Cagnes sur mer, Antibes, Cannes.

The ride to Monte Carlo is about 20 minutes...and much of it is in tunnels. The train station in Monte Carlo is not in the most convenient location to the usual attractions...so you will likely need to use a local bus or taxi..once you get to the station. We tend to favor the #100 bus which runs along the lower corniche (coastal road) through Beaulieu, Cap d'Ail, to Monte Carlo We like the bus because you actually get to see the coast (as opposed to many tunnels on the train) and the bus stops in Monte Carlo are in a more convenient location. The bus is also cheaper (about 1.5€) and runs more often then the train. But either (bus or train) will get you to Monte Carlo.

    Hi, Hank:

How long will it take for the #100 bus to travel from port of Villefranche to Monte Carlo? Once at Monte Carlo, which stop would you recommend as the best place to get off and start exploring Monte Carlo?

    Thank you.

  4. The major thing in those areas are crew elevators and crew stairs. Any time you see a fairly large "white area" adjacent to pax stairs or elevators, the crew ones are there. There may be cabin steward's linen lockers, where they store the carts, or a pantry where they get the ice and wash the glasses. Those areas won't be used after turn-down service, but there may be some noise around 6am. It all depends on the ship and crew at the time, but I wouldn't characterize these as "extra noisy".

    Happy New Year to you!:)

  5. We are contemplating on booking these two cabins on Epic, and would like to know if these cabins are directly across the entry doors to the white space across the corridors? I gathered that these white spaces are housekeeping areas and it will extra noisy and heavy traffic if the cabins are directly across from the entry access to these white space areas.

Thank you so much in advance for your response!

  8. Tri-Rail will get them from FLL to MIA for under $5 each IF they are not in a hurry.

The cruise line transfer bus from PE to MIA is another option. Good luck! :)

Thank you for the response, Johnin DC. Do you happened to know if the stations are inside the FLL and MIA airport terminals or not? Or ia shuttle service will be needed to connect between the closest rail station to the respective airport terminals?

The option of using the cruise line transfer bus from PE to MIA would not work because my DS flight to Los Angeles would not be until 6 pm, and we will be storing our luggage @ FLL's "Bags To Go", as we plan on spending a few hours visiting the Las Olas area prior to our flights back to home.

  9. Hi: I am wondering if there is an alternative transportation mode other than taking a taxi from the airport at Fort Lauderdale to Miami International Airport?

My son will be flying back to Los Angeles from Miami, whereas my husband, daughter and I will be flying back to San Francisco from Fort Lauderdale. We are planning to take a taxi from the Port Everglades after we disembarked to FLL and have our luggage stored with Bags To Go, then hop on the Sun Trolley from FLL to Las Olas area to spend a few hours before coming back to FLL for our late afternoon/early evening flight back home.

I was told that there is a light rail type of transit that link FLL with MIA, if so, how frequent do they run and the approximate travel time between the two airport terminals.

    Thank you!

  10. Ellen was correct, I do have copies of the Patter :)

Traditional seating times were 5:30 and 7:45, in Provence. Anytime Dining was from 5:15 to 10:00 in Bordeaux.

I saw people lining up at 4:45 for dinner, but every cruise will vary. If you wanted to eat after 7:15 there was rarely any wait at all so at 7:30 there shouldn't be an issue.

On Panama Canal day both dining rooms were "open dining", but when we ate in Bordeaux that night it was half empty.

    Your response is much appreciated.

  11. I'm hoping that Rick has one of the Princess Patters because the dining room hours are printed on the back page. Provence Dining Room has the traditional dining, and while I'm certain that the first seating there was 5:30pm, I can't recall the precise time for the second seating. But if memory serves, on the actual day we visited the Panama Canal, they cancelled the two dinner seatings in Provence for that day only, and you just went in when you wanted.

It really does not make that big of a difference whether we will eat @ 7:45, 8:00 or 8:15 PM. The most is 30 minutes difference. We chose traditional as oppose to ATD, due to reason that I heard ATD can be quite a wait for a table if we chose to eat at around 7:30 PM.

  12. San Francisco’s cable cars are symbolic of the charm and distinct flavor of the city. In no other place can you ride a moving national historic monument.

Two cable car lines serve the Fisherman’s Wharf area: Powell-Mason line on Taylor and Bay Streets (middle of Fisherman's Wharf area, a few blocks from Pier 45 at Taylor and Bay Street); and the Powell-Hyde line on Hyde and Beach Streets (Aquatic Park near Ghirardelli Square). Both lines run between Fisherman's Wharf and Powell and Market Streets in Union Square (downtown San Francisco).

  13. I like Port, but I also like black socks and jocks and each is just because I'm a bit strange.

Yes, I normally like the PORT side better. However, due to the PORT side cabin is directly above the Wheelhouse Bar, I decided to go with the STARBOARD side which will the above the outside corridor of the Lounge. On most nights, we should have no issue with noise until the wee hours, however, we are hoping to retire earlier on the eve before the Panama Canal transit, so that we can rise early the following morning for the MAIN event!

  14. Sorry...but the Captain doesn't take into consideration giving "each side equal time"...where they will dock is pre-determined, but how they dock will be up to the Captain & Harbormaster at the time of docking based on many factor's...and one of them is never going to be the view

I understand how the ship dock is "luck of the draw".

  15. For Coral Princess itinerary of Fort Lauderdale to Oranjestad of Aruba, Cartagena, Columbia, and then Panama Canal Cruising, Colon in Panama, Puerto Limon, Costa Rica, and Orch Rios (Jamaica), before heading back to Fort Lauderdale, is their a better side of the ship to choose our cabin for better viewing enroute as well as in port at the various destinations?

    Thank you.
