  1. Yep, still around. I never really inquire about the ice used in the water. I can almost guarantee that any tourist place you go to these days use purified water...Costa Maya, Cozumel or where ever. I have been just about everywhere and never ever had a problem with the water or food or anything.

Glad you had a good time and was able to enjoy the place. Man that sounds like a lot of food for an excellent price.

Gotta be careful about the creatures in the water at any place you go to. I have seen Lionfish and urchins just about everywhere you go. As for stingrays, they will not sting you unless they feel threatened by you...like for instance you step on them (as with any of the other animals mentioned). Stingrays are very easy to see in the crystal blue water (the others, not so much). The best advice they give you is to shuffle your feet when in the water in case one is buried in the sand.

Sorry to hear they messed your bill up. At least you caught it. Did you have the same waiter every time? I know sometimes if you end up with another waiter or you have went up to the bar to order something (maybe on the way to the restroom) then the bill could get mixed up. We did this on our visit and just told our waiter what we added and he put it on there.

I hope we get the change to return again the near future. :)

Yes, those creatures are lots of places we have been, too. But these were plentiful. This place seemed more" primitive". As far as the swimming creatures, it may have been because it was so early in the morning. I have never witnessed anyone stung by a ray before, either, even though myself, husband, dad, etc have all stepped on them in the past. We snorkel often. But this was crazy. I would definitely go back. But not without water shoes. Lol. It's not so huge a deal I would warn others away. Just be forewarned and watch out. A stay in a Mexican hospital wouldn't be fun.

The bill wasn't a huge deal either. Just watch them, as you would anywhere. And yes, same waiter, who knows?

Anyway, thanks for the recommendation! Wish I was there now!

  2. Oh, also, we were off the ship early. Blue Kay didnt open until a couple of hours at least after we arrived. Only people there were a couple of guys raking seaweed. We just got chairs and enjoyed the beach. Main bathrooms were all locked up, so i used my limited spanish to find out where to go. There were more restrooms by the little cabins that were open. Mainly spanish spoken here. Our waiter did speak english fairly well, tho. We communicated with both english and spanish combo, lol.

  3. Just wanted to say we did go to Blue Kay as planned, during our cruise 5-30---6-6. Beautiful place, just as Mitsugirly said! We had a great time!! Just a couple things...watch out for poisonous things, urchins, stingrays, lionfish. Yes, we saw all of these, and a girl from our ship got stung by a ray, and had a trip to the hospital 😱 She was right next to us in the water.

Also, watch your bill. They added several things we didnt order, as well as an $11 tip on a $38 order, after they corrected the bill.

The food is GOOOD, and plentiful. $38 bought 2 cokes, 2 pacificos, a large plate of chips and guac, a large plate of chips and pico, large loaded chicken nachos, and again a large chicken burrito. So much we couldnt finish it all.

    Would love to return!!

  4. From what I remember their was 30% chance a couple days and 40% another day. This was from a 7 day for cast the day before we left on weather.com .weather conditions were good the whole time, just very hot Which is expected.

    Have a great trip!

That's better than ours is looking, but we'll pray for the best and make the most of it! Thank you!!

  5. Thank you all for the info and beautiful pics! I leave in the morning!!! One last question...I have heard your weather was flawless...congrats! Did the weather forecast echo this? Or do you know? We are looking at rain forecasted most ports, and while i realize it does rain in the tropics, and i dont mind a pm storm, i really dont want it to be a total washout😏 Thanks!!

  6. We are leaving on the Valor this Saturday. Relieved to hear not everyone noticed smoke problem. I would have to complain, i just cant handle that. We have a balcony too.

As far as Belize, jonboy, what time were you able to get your tender? We also have a ruins excursion booked there, did you feel it was rushed because of late tenders? Just thinking if they did this last week, it may be the same next week....thank you!!!

  7. Mitsugirly,

I also want to thank you for your information about Blue Kay. Just got off of the Valor yesterday and we were only in Costa Maya until 2 PM last Thursday. But we had a wonderful morning at Blue Kay. Easy to get there, the water and beach was beautiful, drinks were cold and and service was great. Didn't have any food because of the short time. Sure there was a bit of seaweed but they had folks working to clean it up, but it wasn't a major problem. Wished we could have stayed all day. We will be there again if we are ever in Costa Maya.

Yay! This is the exact same ship, itinerary, we are doing leaving Sat! Glad to hear Blue Kay worked out, and would love to hear anything else you have to say about your trip. Feel free to private message me if you want, to avoid hijacking this thread. Thanks!!

  8. Thanks. I wasn't directing my comment to anyone specifically and of course I have no way of knowing if anyone that has went to Blue Kay for the day and stayed, but yet stated they went elsewhere for lunch, actually purchased drinks and such while they were at Blue Kay as well. Just stating something I have noticed (not only on this thread but other threads over the months after my review was posted informing others of this little gem of a place on the Malecon) several people state they did. I would think that others that went elsewhere to eat also was kind enough to also spend $$ at BK as well. :) Just passing on a friendly statement/observation. :D

    :)

Im new, and you probably hear this a lot, but i just want to tell you your reviews in your sig of different ports have helped tremendously in deciding what to do /where to go. Thank you!

  9. I just wanted to say something and I don't want it to come off mean hearted or rude sounding, so please don't take it that way.

However... Blue Kay is free to visit and stay to use their beautiful grounds, beach, facilities and so on. BUT, they expect you to be staying there to give them business. They offer you a free stay there because they expect you to purchase food and drinks from them. That's why it is "free". I have read several people posting since I was there, and informed everyone of this beautiful place, post that they stayed there all day but walked down the malecon and ate somewhere else instead. I really hope that during the time that you are at Blue Kay using their place that you are still purchasing drinks and maybe snacks...or something...to give them business. I know when we went and stayed, they had said they want people to spend at least $25 while staying with them eating and drinking.

Otherwise if people keep doing this, they will probably be like a lot of the other places along the Malecon and start charging an entrance fee to be on their property. :( I just don't want to see that happen because it's so beautiful there. Please keep this in mind. :)

Simply cannot wait! Still no charge at blue kay, correct? We plan on food, drinks, but just to snorkel with our own equipment and use chairs? Did you walk down the malecon? Thanks! Overplanner here:rolleyes:

Not taking it wrong, because I agree with you. But, wanted to clarify, i did say we planned on food and drinks there. I suspect they insist on it anyway, and I dont blame them. Thanks!!

  10. Just came back from Costa Maya. It was everything I thought it would be- and more. Yes we went directly to Blue Kay, which was lovely. But then we explored all down the malecon. It was wonderful. We had planned on having lobster at Chiquita's and Fernando the owner did not disappoint. I had 2 lobster I chose, and one I had flambed and the other stuffed with grouper and octopus. It was awesome! We just beach bummed the day away and "bar-hopped" down the malecon. I want to spend a whole week there!

  11. We are getting ready to do this cruise May 30. Our first. But, I have done TONS of research on snorkeling, and almost everyone echoes PP evanbob's and sunsetglows thoughts. Roatan for snorkeling. We chose tabyana Beach. Hate to miss the water in Belize, but Dd15 is excited about Mayan Ruins and River Wallace, and the reviews just aren't too exciting there about snorkeling....and then Cozumel we are going to Chankanaab. Most excited about Roatan.

  12. Almost a yardstick wide? I would guess that the 33" is the height, the 19" is the width and the 11"is the depth.

Sounds like it would fit through the cruise line scanners. Enjoy your cruise!

LOL!! You must be right, although amazon does say 33" wide. That would be short and fat wouldn't it? May be an interesting looking bag :) Picture looks like a regular looking suitcase. They ( and I, not thinking) must have made a mistake.

Thanks to you all! So excited!!

  13. I found a large lightweight(4lb) suitcase online that fits size requirements for our airline, which is generous at 80 linear inches, this one is 63,but wondering if it will be ok for Carnival? Checked, of course. Website says 11x19x33. 33 is width. I havent seen it in person, maybe this is really huge? I know what carnival recommends as far as size, but wondering if size is enforced? Weight cannot exceed 40 pounds, via airline, so thats not an issue. Our first cruise, thank you!

  14. Hi. I knew right away when you said you were in port from 7-2 that meant you were on Carnival. LOL They always do this here and we were on the Carnival Dream once and had the same situation. That time we also headed to the malecon for the day (but stayed at Nohoch Cay and didn't care for it) and we had plenty of time with no worries. We just got an earlier start. :D

Since Blue Kay is basically right around the corner from the port, and it only takes about less than 10 minutes to get there, it's super easy to do especially on a short port day. I highly recommend it. There's plenty of taxi's to take you back to the port in port. I wouldn't worry too much about that at all. You see the ship right there in front of you. :) Just keep track of your time.

As for taking the open air taxi, they pull up right outside the port. The cost in the same. The only time I have taken a taxi, we had to walk outside the gate and down to the end of the street and we were going somewhere that was 20 minutes away. It's just simple to get on the open air bus that sits right there in front. They may have regular taxi's that pull up there too, but I'm not sure because I didn't look for them. On the ride back, you will be in a regular cab. :)

Thank you! Getting excited!! May 30!!

  15. Ok, so I am totally new. Forgive my ignorance. We just decided to book a cruise that leaves in about a month, one of the ports is costa maya. I hate the look of the port....but I love the look of Blue Cay. I have read your review...beautiful, thank you! We are doing a Carnival cruise that is docked 7-2....that is enough time to get to and enjoy Blue Cay, correct? Being new to this whole thing, I am just terrified of "missing the boat", lol. And I read something in your review about Carnival leaving early, so I thought I'd ask.... Also, is there a reason you took an open air bus rather than a taxi? Is one cheaper or easier? Thanks for your help!!
